Gemini Industries, Inc.: SMART15 English Instructions Technical Support SMART15 About Your SMART15 Programming the Brand Codes AutoSearch Instructions Teaching Your SMART15 To Teach Your SMART15 Notes on Operation Battery Requirements Return to SMART15 Menu. I. ABOUT YOUR SMART15 Your new SMART15 eliminates the necessity of using many different remote controls to operate your video components. The SMART15 is designed with 155 pre-programmed (brand) codes which will operate almost all available TVs, VCRs and Cable TV Converters. By selecting the correct code for your video equipment, this single remote will operate all of the major functions available on your existing remote. Your SMART15 is also a "learning" remote, capable of memorizing and duplicating any function from your existing infra-red (IR) remote controls. This feature enables the SMART15 to be used with any device whose brand code is not listed in the pages that follow (i.e. audio components, IR controlled home automation devices, etc.). As an added feature, you may also supplement any brand code, pre-programmed function keys by teaching the SMART15 additional functions from your original remotes. Your SMART15 features a non-volatile memory which retains all programmed codes, as well as "learned" functions, even if the batteries are removed. Your SMART15 requires 2 "AAA" alkaline batteries (not included). See "Battery Requirements" before programming. NOTE: The SMART15 can only operate components which already use a remote control. It cannot operate a device which is not remote control compatible. II. PROGRAMMING THE BRAND CODES

Gemini Industries, Inc.: SMART15 English Instructions To program your new SMART15 using the brand codes listed, refer to the following instructions: Locate the 3-digit brand code which corresponds to the name brand of your component. When more than one code is listed, enter the codes, starting with the first code available, according to the instructions that follow in steps 2-4, until the component responds. Select the type of device (TV, VCR, CATV or AUX) to program by pressing the correct "POWER" key. To program a second TV, VCR or Cable Box, select the AUX mode. Press and hold the "ENTER" and "0" keys simultaneously, until the indicator light for the device mode selected turns on (about 4 seconds). Using the numeric keypad, enter the 3-digit brand code that corresponds to your component, followed by the "ENTER" key. If a valid code was entered and accepted, all four indicator lights will momentarily flash and then turn off. To test the brand code entered, point the remote towards the device and press the power button on your SMART15 for this component. If the device turns on, the correct code was entered*. If there is no response, select the next available brand code and repeat steps 3 through 5. *In order to determine which brand code will provide the maximum number of compatible functions, try all of the codes available for your brand component. If the component does not respond to any of the brand codes listed, refer to either the "Autosearch Instructions" on page 7 or the "Teaching Your SMART15" section on page 7. Repeat steps 1-5 for any remaining components. Record your codes below for future reference. TV: VCR: CABLE/AUX: III. AUTOSEARCH INSTRUCTIONS This feature allows your SMART15 to search through the brand code

Gemini Industries, Inc.: SMART15 English Instructions library, one code at a time, for the device selected. In the AUX mode, the entire code library will be searched for all TV, VCR and CABLE brand codes. Select the device to program using the correct "POWER" key. Press and hold the "ENTER" and "0" keys simultaneously, until the indicator light for the device mode selected turns on (about 4 seconds). Enter the code "00" followed by the "ENTER" key. All indicator lights will momentarily illuminate and then all but the indicator light for the device mode selected will turn off. Your SMART15 is now ready to begin the Autosearch function. Manually turn on the component which you are trying to program the SMART15 to control. Point the remote control towards the device and press the appropriate power key. Continue pressing the power key, not faster than once every second, until the device turns off. DO NOT CONTINUE PRESSING THE POWER KEY ONCE YOUR COMPONENT TURNS OFF. Immediately press the "ENTER" key to lock in that code. Once the code is locked in, all the indicator lights will momentarily flash, signaling that the SMART15 is now ready for use. If all the indicator lights begin to flash sequentially, the entire code library has been searched for that particular component mode setting. Press "ENTER" to exit this mode. IV. TEACHING YOUR SMART15 Your SMART15 is also learning remote capable of duplicating up to 112 functions from your original remote(s). All keys on the SMART15, except the "MODE" key, can be "taught" any function desired. Use this feature to teach your SMART15 to control any device if: The brand code is not listed. The device does not respond to any of the brand codes, or simply to supplement any function(s) not available with the brand code entered. V. TO TEACH YOUR SMART15 Use the correct "POWER" key to select the device mode (i.e. TV, VCR, CATV or AUX) under which the learned functions will be stored.

Gemini Industries, Inc.: SMART15 English Instructions Press and hold the "ENTER" and "0" keys simultaneously (for about 6 seconds), until the indicator light for the device mode selected turns on. Enter the code "99", immediately followed by the "ENTER" key. All indicator lights will momentarily flash, leaving only the indicator light for the mode selected continuously flashing. Your SMART15 is now ready to learn new functions. To properly align the two remotes, place the original remote and your SMART15 "head-to-head" on a flat surface, approximately one inch apart. Press any key on the original remote and hold, while slightly offsetting the two remote "heads". Once properly aligned, the indicator light on your SMART15 will stop flashing and remain on continuously. Your SMART15 is now ready to learn. Press and release the key on your SMART15 you wish to teach the new function. The mode indicator light will now begin flashing continuously, unless a non-programmable key was pressed. Press and hold the key on the original remote you wish the SMART15 to learn, until all the indicator lights momentarily turn on*. Your SMART15 has now successfully learned this function. The indicator light will now once again turn on and stay on, signaling the SMART15 is ready to learn the next function. *It is important to continue holding the key on your original remote until the four indicator lights turn on. If they still don t turn on, repeat steps 4 and 5 or refer to the "Troubleshooting" section. Repeat step 5 for other function keys you wish the SMART15 to learn. Once all desired functions have been taught, simultaneously press and hold both the "ENTER" and "0" keys. All four indicator lights will flash three times, indicating the end of the "learning" mode. Learned functions will replace any previous functions stored in a key. Entering new brand codes may replace previously taught keys with the built-in, pre-programmed functions. VII. NOTES ON OPERATION The remote control supplied with your TV, VCR or Cable Box may have keys not duplicated on the SMART15. Check all function keys available on your SMART15. If the function

Gemini Industries, Inc.: SMART15 English Instructions desired is not available, refer to the section on "Teaching Your SMART15". The SMART15 may have additional functions which were not available on your original remote. These functions may or may not have an effect on your component. Some keys on the SMART15 duplicate original remote functions but may be labeled differently. For example, another remote may have an "ON/OFF" key, this function is labeled "POWER" on the SMART15. During normal operation, the indicator light, for any mode selected, will light or flicker each time a key is pressed on the SMART15. You must exit from any special mode (i.e. programming, autosearch, "learning", etc.) before resuming normal operation of your SMART15. VIII. BATTERY REQUIREMENTS Your remote control requires 2 "AAA" alkaline batteries (not included). To insert batteries, remove the battery cover on the back of the remote control by inserting your fingernail into the slot at the top. Then pull DOWN and OUT. To insure proper polarity, insert the batteries as per the diagram in the battery compartment. To replace the cover, insert the tab on the bottom of the cover into its housing and snap closed. Be careful not to place any heavy objects on top of the remote control buttons. Prolonged accidental operation of the remote will result in shortened battery life. NOTE: Removing the batteries does not require re-programming the brand codes or "learned" functions. Warning: This equipment generates and uses radio frequency energy. If not used properly, it may cause interference to radio and TV signals. It has been type tested and found to comply with the FCC limits for a Class B computing device, which requires reasonable protection against such interference. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur. If this equipment causes interference to the radio or TV reception, try the following: Reposition the receiving antenna. Move the remote control further away from the receiver. If necessary, consult your dealer or an experienced radio/television technician for additional suggestions.
