7 th grade Business & Computer Science 1 Excel Project 1 Creating a Worksheet and an Embedded Chart What is MS Excel? MS Excel is a powerful spreadsheet program that allows users to organize data, complete calculations, make decisions, graph data, develop professional looking reports, publish organized data to the Web, and access real-time data from Web sites. There are four major parts in Excel. Workbooks and worksheets: Workbooks are a collection of worksheets. Worksheets allow users to enter, calculate, manipulate, and analyze data such as numbers and text. The terms worksheet and spreadsheet are interchangeable. Charts: Excel can draw a variety of charts. Tables: Tables organize and store data within worksheets. For example, once a user enters data into a worksheet, an Excel table can sort the data, search for specific data, and select data that satisfies defined criteria. Web Support: Web support allows users to save Excel worksheets or parts of a worksheet in HTML format, so a user can view and manipulate the worksheet using a browser. Excel Web support also provides access to real-time, such as stock quotes, using Web queries. In this project, you will create a worksheet with an embedded chart. Follow the instructions below for this assignment. 1. Open Excel 2. Save the spreadsheet to your network drive in the appropriate folder with the name Project 1 Worksheet and Embedded Chart. 3. Click cell A1 to make cell A1 the active cell.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 2 4. Type Walk and Rock Music in cell A1 and then click the Enter box on the formula bar. 5. Click cell A2 to select it. 6. Type First Quarter Rock-It MP3 Sales in cell A2 7. Click the Enter Box. Check your spreadsheet with the image below.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 3 8. Click cell B3 to select it 9. Type Northeast then press the right arrow on your keyboard. You should now be in cell C3. 10. Using the method above, type Southeast in C3, Midwest in D3, South in E3, West in F3, and Total in G3. Check your spreadsheet with the image below. 11. Click cell A4 to select it. 12. Type Video and then press the down arrow on your keyboard. 13. Using the method above, Mini in A5, Micro in A6, Flash in A7, Accessories in A8, and Total in A9. Check the image below to make sure your spreadsheet is correct.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 4 14. Click cell B4. Type 66145.15 then press the right arrow key. 15. Enter 79677.1 in C4, 34657.66 in D4, 52517.7 in E4, and 99455.49 in F4. 16. Use the image below to type in the remaining numbers in the appropriate cells

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 5 17. Click cell B9. 18. Find the Auto Sum button on the Home Ribbon. See the image below for help. 19. Double click the Auto Sum button to add the figures in column B. A formula has now been added to B9 that adds the figures above. 20. Use the fill handle to copy the formula to the rest of row 9. See the image below. See the image below to double check your work.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 6 21. Click cell G4. Double click the Auto Sum button to add the figures in row 4. 22. Use your fill handle to copy the formula to column G. Check the image below. 23. On your keyboard, press CTRL + ` (Accent Mark, to the left of the 1 key). This will put your spreadsheet in Formula View. Check your spreadsheet with the image below.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 7 **If you do not see formulas (look for = signs), you have not put your formulas in correctly. Go back to Step 19 and follow instructions through Step 23** Press CTRL + ` (Accent Mark) to get back to Normal View of your spreadsheet. 24. Press CTRL + S on your keyboard to save changes up to this point in the assignment. FORMATTING THE SPREADSHEET 25. Click cell A1. 26. Find the Styles area on the Home Ribbon. Click the Cell Styles button to display the Cell Styles gallery. 27. Choose the style called Title 28. Click cell A2. Click the Bold button on the Home Ribbon, change the font to size 14, and change the color of the text in A2 to dark blue. Check the image below.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 8 29. Select the range A1:G1 30. Click on the Merge and Center button on the Home Ribbon. Range selected is A1:G1 31. Select the range A2:G2. 32. Click on the Merge and Center button on the Home Ribbon. Check the image below.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 9 Merged and Centered Rows 33. Select the range A9:G9 34. Click the Style button on the Home Ribbon 35. Choose the Total style from the list 36. Select the range B4:G4 37. Click the Accounting Number Format button on the Home Ribbon (looks like a $) 38. Check the image below with your spreadsheet

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 10 Total Style applied Accounting Number Format applied 39. Save your changes (CTRL + S) 40. Select the range B5:G8 and click the Comma Style button on the Home Ribbon 41. Select the range B9:G9 and click the Accounting Number Format on the Home Ribbon 42. Save your changes. INSERTING A COLUMN CHART 43. Click cell A3 and drag the mouse to cell F8 44. You should now have the range A3:F8 selected. See image below.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 11 45. Click the Insert Ribbon 46. Point to the Column Chart button on the ribbon 47. Choose the 3D Cluster Column Chart 48. Click the chart area and drag it so that the top left corner of the chart is in cell A11. 49. Resize the chart so that spans out to the right edge of column G and the bottom of row 26. 50. Select the text box that says Chart Title. Press the Delete key on your keyboard. 51. If necessary, select the text box that says Series 1, 2, 3, 4. Press the Delete key. If not, skip this step.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 12 52. Type your first and last name in cell A28. Save your changes. 53. Call your instructor over for a screen check. EXCEL Project 1 LAB 1-1 Follow the instructions below to create the spreadsheet, A Healthy Body Shop. 1. Start a new, blank spreadsheet. Save with the name Project 1 Lab 1-1 on your network drive. 2. Using the image below, key and format your spreadsheet so that it looks similar.

7 th grade Business & Computer Science 13 3. In Row 9, use the Auto Sum button to enter a formula that will add the figures. 4. In Column G, use the Auto Sum button to enter a formula that will add the figures. 5. Using the range B3:F8, insert a 3D column chart. 6. Delete text boxes for Chart Title and Series. 7. Move and resize it so that it looks similar to the image below.
