THROWMASTER 409 T-1 System Transfer Set The Throwmaster Model 409 is a revolutionary new way of transferring T-1 circuits from one transmission system to another, There can be any number of repeaters or any type of active electronics between the two locations (e.g. Lightspan, HDSL, HFC). The system will work with both dry (non-powered) and wet (powered) lines. Two transfer techniques are used. The first uses of two Model 409 Throwmasters, one at each end of the system to be transferred. The 409 units are located at the copper common points where the old and new circuits come together at the DS-1 level. The most common locations are one unit at the Central Office DSX and the other unit at the NIU at the customer s premise. Other locations include Central Office to Central Office or within the same Central Office. The second technique uses of one (1) Model 409 in conjunction with a Digital Cross-Connect System (DACS or DCS). The Throwmaster 409 works with the Central Office based DCS/DACS system (e.g. Alcatel, Tellabs, Lucent) to transfer the circuit without turning the circuit down or causing customer service outages. The one (1) Model 409 would commonly be placed at the subscriber end of the span, while the DACS would take the place of the other Model 409 in the Central Office. THROWMASTER 102A Cable Test Set THE TECHNICIAN S COMPLETE TEST SET FOR TESTING AND TRANSFER OF TELEPHONE CABLE The Throwmaster brand Cable Test Set Model 102A is a portable, battery powered instrument intended for field testing telephone cable pairs. It is nor-mally used by cable technicians as their primary test set. The Throwmaster brand Cable Test Set Model 102A is a portable, battery powered instrument intended for field testing telephone cable pairs. It is normally used by cable technicians as their primary test set. The 102A is used for the following purposes: Tests non-working pairs for all DC defects including opens, shorts, crosses, grounds, splits, balance and high resistance faults. Tests working pairs for busy status, polarity and voltage. Measures DC voltage from 0 to 200 volts. Measures resistance from 0 to 10 megohms. Locates opens, shorts, grounds, crosses and splits. Supplies talk battery and signaling functions for technician communication. Sends simplex 577 Hz tone for pair identification which is silent to sub-scribers. Performs cut-closed cable transfers or section throws on working cables without service interruption. Testing Spare Pairs - The 102A Throwmaster incorporates a complete field test board. In the TEST mode the battery and meter can perform the same functions as the local test desk. In addition, the LENGTH and OHMS modes can test spare pairs for capacitive and resistive faults. These three functions together can test for opens, shorts, grounds, crosses, splits, unbalances, foreign voltage and high resistance or moisture problems. The technician can also measure the length of a good pair and can locate opens, shorts, grounds, crosses and splits. In other words, the 102A gives the splicing technician the same troubleshooting capabilities as a volt-ohmmeter, an open locator, and a tone generator - all in one compact test set. Testing Working Lines - The technician can tell at a glance whether a particular line is working or spare, idle or busy, straight or reversed, or has special voltage present. He can also tell how many ringers are present and which way the telephones are connected. In the case of a cable transfer he can switch between the old and new pairs to see if both are properly connected. Unit Size 8.5 x 8 x 3 inches (21.6 x 20.3 x 7.6 cm) Unit Weight 6 lbs (2.7 kg) Shipping Weight 7 lbs (3.2 kg) Batteries Seven 9V Alkaline NEDA 1604 Operating Temp, 0 to 120 F (-18 to 48 C) Tone 577 Hz Precision simplex or grounded Test Ranges - Voltage: 0-200 VDC Resistance: 0-10 megohm Length: 0-100,000 ft CE Throwmaster Cable Test Set, Model 102A - measures in feet. Optional Accessories Soft-Pak Carrying Case (P/N 1400-0135) is a durable padded nylon case that protects the Throwmaster from scuffs and scratches. Model 306 Test Cord is a 25 pair wye cord to attach a Switchmaster to two cutter pressers. Model 311 Test Cord is a general purpose test cord unterminated on one end.

THROWMASTER 105 Cable Test Set The Throwmaster brand test set, Model 105, is the primary instrument used by telephone company technicians for testing and transfer operations on both metallic and pair gain types of service. In most cases, service may be transferred from on pair of wires to another without interruption. All functions normally associated with transfer operations are provided by the 105. Test non-working pairs for all DC defects including opens, shorts, crosses, grounds, splits, balance and high resistance faults. Tests working paris for busy status, polarity and voltage. Measures DC voltage from 0 to 100 volts. Measures resistance from 0 to 10 megohms. Locates opens, shorts, grounds, crosses and splits. Supplies talk battery and signaling functions for technician communication. Sends simples 577 Hz tone for pair identification which is silent to subscribers. Performs cut-closed cable transfers or section throws on working cables without service interruption.

THROWMASTER 105 Cable Test Set METALLIC TO METALLIC TRANSFER The above diagram shows a transfer from metallic circuit to metallic circuit. In this type of transfer, there is normally a jumper connected in the Central Office between the old pair and the new pair. When used the the TRANSFER mode, the 105 BUZZ tone verifies that both the old pair and the new pair are fault free, verifies that the jumper is connected properly, and holds the line in service while the actual wire work is done. The transfer operation may proceed even if the subscriber is on the phone! Operation of the BUZZ tone is completely silent to the subscriber. The Throwmaster 105 can be used to test a metallic cable section throw in the same manner as a transfer. METALLIC TO UNIVERSAL PAIR GAIN TRANSFER In this diagram, the old pair is metallic all the way to the Main Distribution Frame, and the new pair is fed from a pair gain device such as SLC-96 or Lightspan 2000. There is still a jumper in the Central Office, as in the previous transfer. In this situation a silent BUZZ tone can not be used because it will not pass through the pair gain system. The solution is to access the old and new pairs, send a 1/10th second audible signal through the pair gain system, and indicate the result to the operator. In order to insure that the pair gain system is functioning properly, tone is sent two ways; from old pair to new pair, and from new pair to old pair. The 105 is then used to hold the line in service during wire work. Service is not interrupted during this type transfer operation. COMPLETE TEST SET The Throwmaster is the only test set available that can test and transfer through pair gain systems. It comes in a rugged, compact package that includes the capabilities of a voltohmeter, line insulation tester, fault locator, tone generator and talk set. METALLIC TO INTEGRATED PAIR GAIN TRANSFER When the transfer involves an Integrated Pair Gain System, or integrated SLC, there can be no physical jumper in the Central Office. But testing the new assignment is still important. Tests must be made for correct telephone number assignments, adequate transmission levels in both directions, and cable faults such as shorts, grounds, crosses and splits. By using a spare pair, the 105 enables the operator to rapidly make all such tests without the use of Automatic Number Identification (ANI) equipment, and puts the splicing technician in control of the quality of his work. CONVERSION AVAILABLE Two previous models of Throwmaster; Model 102 and Model 102A, may be converted to Model 105. This is a complete conversion using all new parts, and the result is a like new instrument having all the capabilities of a new Model 105. Your existing serial number is retained to simplify record keeping, unless you request otherwise. Throwmasters with a serial number lower than 7701450 are a different size and will require a new case. The warranty is the same as for a new instrument.

THROWMASTER 107 Derived Pair Transfer Test Set FOR TESTING AND CUT-CLOSED TRANSFER OF DERIVED PAIRS The Throwmaster brand Cable Test Set Model 107 is a portable, battery powered instrument used by cable splicing technicians as their primary test set. It is used to send silent tone for pair identification; to set up talk circuits; to test working and non-working pairs; to diagnose and locate cable pair defects; to rapidly perform line qualification on up to 50 pairs at a time; and to perform cut-closed cable transfers. In a cut-closed cable transfer, the splicer can use the 107 to verify that the old pair and the new pair are half-tapped correctly; that there are no defects on the new pair; and that the subscriber is to the field of the splice location. The splicer can then bridge the pair through the test set, make the physical transfer, and verify that the circuit will work the new way - all without interrupting service. The 107, like previous Throwmaster models, can do this on any metallic circuit that can be half-tapped. But in addition, the 107 solves the problem of buzzing around cable transfers when the new pair or the old pair is derived from a pair gain system such as SLC-96 or DMS-1 Urban. It is not possible to use conventional testing techniques on the field side of a subscriber loop system. Sending tones or shorting the pair to verify continuity does not work when the voice frequency pair is derived instead of metallic. And using ANI or ANAC to verify the telephone number only verifies the ring side of the pair. The 107 uses a technique that veri-fies the transfer of the correct circuit; tests for opens, splits, reversals, and other hard troubles; and even makes a transmission test to check that the channel units in the pair gain system are performing properly. In other words, if you test a pair gain transfer with a 107 Throwmaster, you can be certain that: 1. You have the correct pair (both sides). 2. There are no defects on the new circuit. 3. The new derived circuit will provide a quality transmission path through the pair gain system. The 107 can also be used for conventional metallic transfers, and on four-wire circuits and other special circuits that can be half-tapped. The 107 can be used to test the following types of transfers: Metallic to metallic. Metallic to pair gain. Pair gain to metallic. Pair gain to pair gain. Size 10.5 x 11.0 x 4.5 in. (26.7 x 28 x 11.4 cm) Unit Weight 12 lbs (5.5 kg) Shipping Weight 14 lbs (6.4 kg) Batteries Five 9V Alkaline NEDA 1604 Operating Temp. 0 to 120 F (-20 to 50 C) Tone 577 Hz Precision simplex or grounded Test Ranges Voltage 0-100 VDC Resistance 0-10 Megohms (analog) Length 0-100,000 ft Pair Access single pair cord (supplied) or 25 pair cords (optional) CE The Throwmaster 107 should be ordered as follows: Throwmaster Cable Test Set, Model 107 - measures in feet.
