R E L E A S E N O T E S Waters Empower 2 Service Pack G Empower 2 Service Pack G enhances LDAP capabilities. These release notes also address the following information and instructions: System and software requirements Issues resolved in this release Known issues in this release GxP compliance requirements Installing Empower 2 SP G Verifying an installation Empower 2 SP G program file updates Test configurations used to develop and evaluate Empower 2 SP G Consult these release notes and those associated with all previous Empower 2 service packs and feature releases. Unless superseded, all previous release notes and product support information apply to this software release. System and software requirements Empower 2 SP G requires the following hardware and software: Empower 2 systems (Enterprise servers, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, and Personal workstations) that run on Empower 2 Feature Release 5 or higher. You do not need to install Empower 2 SP G on 64-bit Windows Server 2003 and Solaris database servers. You can install Empower 2 SP G on these Empower 2 platforms: Enterprise 32-bit servers, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, Personal workstations, and Citrix 32-bit servers. The database updated to Empower 2 FR 5 (with or without the Licensing Wizard hotfix) or SP F (with or without the SP F Hotfix 1). Requirement: You must install Empower 2 SP G on all computers on which Empower 2 software is installed, including workstations, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, and servers. Empower 2 SP G includes only the files needed to fix the issues identified in the Issues resolved in this release section of the release notes. LDAP enhancements Empower 2 Service Pack G enhances LDAP capabilities by allowing multiple domains for LDAP user accounts to be specified, supporting LDAP groups, and by identifying LDAP user accounts by User Principal Name (UPN). Support for LDAP groups Empower software supports LDAP groups: Groups display in the software like Organizational Units (OUs), but are depicted by different icons (like those shown on the LDAP server.) In the same way you choose a user from an OU, you can choose a user from a group. A group that is a member of another group appears as a nested group in the software. In the same way you search for a user s name, you can search for an OU or a group. To search for an OU or group, select the OU or group radio button, enter the name of an OU or group, and then click the Search button. Exception: A user from a different domain that is added to a group will display in Empower as long as they are in the same forest. If the user is from a different forest, the user s security identifier (SID) will display and you will not be able to create an Empower user. User Principal Name (UPN) LDAP authentication in Empower now uses User Principal Name (UPN, for example, SmithJ@domain.com) to uniquely identify users rather than the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN, for example CN=John Smith,OU=Folder,DC=Domain,DC=com). In the User Properties dialog box, the LDAP User DN field was renamed to reflect the change to UPN. If you were in LDAP mode before upgrading to Empower 2 SP G, any users associated with LDAP accounts will still be using the FQDN. This will still work; however, if you want to change them to UPN, re-associate their user accounts with their LDAP account again. Any new users created will automatically use the UPN. Multiple LDAP Domains When LDAP authentication is enabled, you can now define multiple domains, if desired. The User Account Policies tab in the System Policies dialog box was modified to include LDAP functionality by adding these features: Authentication field defines the type of user accounts: local or LDAP. LDAP Domain Manager creates, edits, views, and deletes domains. To associate with a new domain: 1. In the User Account Policies tab of the Empower System Policies dialog box, select LDAP Authentication in the Authentication field. 2. In the LDAP Domain Manager, click New. 3. In the Authentication Policies dialog box, enter information about the new domain, keeping these guidelines in mind: Option Domain Description Ensure the Enable Domain check box is selected. Tip: When you complete entering information about this domain and click OK, Empower software will connect to the LDAP server. If you do not select the Enable Domain check box, Empower software does not attempt to connect to the LDAP server. Type the domain name for the server(s) that contain the LDAP user accounts. Page 2 of 13

Option Domain Information Description Enter domain components in this format separated by a comma. Example: DC=Empowerdomain,DC=qc Enter the host name or IP address for each LDAP server. The order of the servers in the list determines the order in which Empower software connects to the servers. When a server is not available, Empower software attempts to connect to the next server in the list. Enter the port number for the LDAP server(s). The default SSL port is 636. Tip: you can use the arrow buttons beside each server to move a server up or down in the list. In the Timeout field, enter the amount in seconds that you want to wait for a response from the LDAP server before communications fail between the LDAP server and the Empower database. LDAP Credentials In the Domain Access Username field, enter the name of the user whose privileges allow communication with the LDAP server. In the Domain Access Password field, enter the password for the user specified in the Domain Access Username field. Search Criteria Specify the OU (Organizational Unit) to search for users. Example: OU=Research OU=Chemistry_Sales,OU=Chemistry CN=users 3. To test connectivity between Empower software and your LDAP server(s), click Test Directory Server Access. When you do so, Empower software tests communication with your LDAP servers following the order in which they reside in the directory servers table. Each server is tested individually. 4. In the Authentication tab, click OK. Result: If Empower software can establish communication with the LDAP server, the domain appears in the LDAP Domain Manager list in the User Accounts Policies tab. If Empower software cannot connect to the LDAP server, deselect the Enable Domain check box and try to establish communications later. The domain will still appear in the LDAP Domain Manager list. 5. In the System Policies dialog box, click OK. Tip: If you click Cancel before clicking OK in the System Policies dialog box, the domain information will not be saved. To edit a domain: 1. In the User Account Policies tab of the Empower System Policies dialog box, select a domain in the LDAP Domain Manager section, and then click Edit. 2. You can change the domain information as needed, and then click OK. To view domain information, select a domain in the LDAP Domain Manager section of the User Account Policies tab of the Empower System Policies dialog box, and then click View. You can view domain information, but cannot change it. Page 3 of 13

To delete a domain, select a domain in the LDAP Domain Manager section of the User Account Policies tab of the Empower System Policies dialog box, click Delete, and then OK to confirm the deletion. If you delete the only remaining enabled domain, you must confirm deletion again, and Authentication is switched from LDAP to local authentication. Issues resolved in this release The following table contains a list of the software problems fixed in Empower 2 SP G. The PCS (Product Change System) numbers identify software issues that Waters personnel monitor within a system change request tracking tool. PCS Number Description 44693 The Empower 2 installer was modified to include Waters and Acquity instruments to be added to the Windows Vista Firewall exception list. 44571 When switching injections and updating the 2D and 3 D channel tables in the Review window and QuickStart, Empower no longer closes unexpectedly. 44209 When you manually identify peaks (Named Group or Timed Group) in the Review window and QuickStart, Empower no longer closes unexpectedly. 43590 When you log into Empower as a non-administrator and open the View Sample History dialog box, QuickStart and the Run Samples window no longer close unexpectedly. 44233 While exporting data that contained fields with no values, Empower no longer closes unexpectedly. 43252 When you export data containing fields that are too long to fit on one line, Empower no longer closes unexpectedly. 44387 In the Japanese version of Empower 2 software, the Import Plate Type from Text File dialog box now contains an OK button. 44311 If you have the Method Validation Manager option installed, Linearity test reports now contain the correct Response Factor and Relative Response Factor values for linearity points. 41951 The Review window and QuickStart no longer close unexpectedly when the title of the project path contains more than 100 characters. 43340 The first application windows to open are allocated excessive amounts of memory by the Windows operating system. Empower applications were modified to override the Windows defaults and allocate memory equitably. 44406 LDAP user groups are now supported. See also: LDAP enhancements 44408 User Principal Name (UPN) is used to associate Empower users with their LDAP accounts. See also: LDAP enhancements 44407 You can now specify more than one domain with LDAP authentication. The domains can be from different forests. See also: LDAP enhancements 44610 When using an LDAP user account, you can now enter your LDAP password to confirm manual integration of a peak. 44639, 44529 When you review 2D and 3D data in the Extracted 3D plot and 3D channels table in the Review window and then extract a chromatogram, the 3D extracted plot is now updated in Review. Page 4 of 13

45032 When an Administrator presses the [Esc] key in the Your Password has Expired dialog box, a logged in user s role is no longer changed to Administrator. 42546, 38016 The Open Access user interface now opens correctly the first time and does not close immediately upon opening. 44495 Dragging and dropping large results sets into Review and working with samples collected at high data rates will no longer cause Empower to close unexpectedly. Tip: Be patient when working with large data sets and samples collected at high data rates. Known issues in this release The following table contains a list of the known issues for Empower 2 SP G. The PCS (Product Change System) numbers identify software issues that Waters personnel monitor within a system change request tracking tool. PCS Number Description 44815 When using multiple domain configurations with Empower 2 SP G, clients will need to have the SSL certificates imported manually or set on the LDAP server through a group policy. See also: LDAP enhancements 44922 If you have LDAP authentication enabled prior to upgrading to Empower 2 SP G, you must update the LDAP information after installing Empower 2 SP G or you will not be able to create users or alter the LDAP account information for an existing user. To update LDAP information: 1. In System Policies, access the User Account Policies tab. Under LDAP Domain Manager, click on the top blank line in the box and click the Edit button. 2. On the Authentication Policies page, enter a name for the domain. 3. Enter the domain component information (for example, DC=DomainName,DC=com). 4. In the Search Criteria box, remove the domain component information (for example, DC=DomainName,DC=com) beside each line in the box. See also: LDAP enhancements 45035 By performing extensive processing in the Review window, it is still possible to overwhelm the computer s resources and these messages will display in the Message Center: Not enough storage is available to process this command. Chrom map view of file failed. Given sufficient time, these resource allocation issues may resolve themselves. 44785 You cannot import a plate type file that is one language (for example, English) into Empower software that is in a different language (for example, Japanese). 44925 On the Authentication Policies tab of the Empower System Policies dialog box, there is no Help button. These release notes explain how the Authentication policies tab works in the Empower System Policies dialog box. See also: LDAP enhancements Page 5 of 13

PCS Number Description 45042 If you do not install Empower 2 SP G on all Empower computers, the following message displays, and you cannot log on to Empower: Run Time Error! Program: C\empower\Bin\Empower.exe This application has requested the Run Time to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application s support team for more information. You must install Empower 2 SP G on all computers on which Empower software is installed, including workstations, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, and servers. 44886 A user from a different domain that is added to a group will display in Empower as long as they are in the same forest. If the user is from a different forest, the user s security identifier (SID) will display and you will not be able to create an Empower user. 45091 If you want to rename a library in Empower software, you must rename it in the Spectrum Review window in Review. You cannot rename a library in Configuration Manager. 45159 When you run the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 wizard and attempt to restore the AQT projects while running the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 installer, numerous error messages display. If you restore the AQT projects before running the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 wizard, you will not encounter error messages. You must restore the AQT projects using the Restore project wizard in Empower. Refer to the Restoring the SAT/IN Module AQT projects section in these release notes for instructions on how to restore the AQT projects before and after running the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 installer. 45160 When you run the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 wizard and have LDAP authentication enabled, you must run the wizard using an Always Local Login Administrator account. 45161 When the Waters SQ detector is initially connecting to Empower software, the following messages display in the Run Samples window: Save Calibration Reference QPSetup Password: Note: Current user Password must be re-entered in order for changes to be saved. Not Responding You can ignore these messages because they do not indicate a loss of connectivity to Empower software. 45162 When you are using the Waters SQ detector and are overwriting an existing tune or calibration method, the following text appears EmpowerConnectionsDLL. You can ignore these messages because they do not prevent you from saving a tune and calibration method. 44899 If a processing method contains a named group with a last peak for reported RT, the last peak on the list is used to integrate and quantitate regardless of the retention time order of the components. Page 6 of 13

PCS Number Description 45220 When you access the PDA Calibration and the PDA Diagnostics window from an Empower 2 workstation, client, or LAC/E 32 module running Vista, unusual messages may display, Empower 2 may close unexpectedly or may temporarily become inoperable. This situation does not occur with Empower 2 workstations, clients, or LAC/E 32 modules that run on XP. To access PDA Calibration or the Diagnostics window using a Empower 2 client or LAC/E 32 module running Vista, do the following: 1. From Run Samples, select Diagnostics > PDA Calibration or PDA Diagnostics and wait for approximately one minute for the PDA Calibration or PDA Diagnostics to fully appear. If the PDA Calibration or PDA Diagnostics window does not fully appear, follow the remaining steps outlined below. 2. If the Select Network Node wizard page appears, select the appropriate Empower Node. Result: The following message may display, even if the correct node was chosen: "Error connecting to Instrument Server Failed to establish a COM connection to the requested device. It is likely turned off or is not a Waters device." 3. Click OK to close the message. Result: A message displays stating that the instrument is in use and to place the system that this instrument is part of offline. Ignore this message. 4. Click OK to close the message. 5. Click X to close the Select Instrument page. Result: You can now access PDA Calibration and PDA Diagnostics. Restoring the SAT/IN Module AQT projects You can restore SAT/IN Module AQT projects before or after running the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 wizard. If you restore the SAT/IN Module AQT projects before running the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 wizard, you will not encounter error messages. If you restore the SAT/IN Module AQT projects after running the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 wizard, you will encounter error messages, but you can still restore the projects by using the Restore Projects wizard in Empower. Restoring the SAT/IN Module AQT projects before running the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 installer To restore and rename the SAT/IN Module AQT projects before running the SAT/IN Module Qualification v3.0 installer: 1. Log into Empower. 2. In Configuration Manager, click Projects > Restore Projects. 3. When the following errors occur, click OK: Error 7FFC0035 Error E4D Error 7FFC0035 (message appears twice) 4. When the Restore Projects page appears, select the database to restore the project and then click Next. 5. When the following errors occur, click OK: Error 7FFC0035 Error E4D Error FFFE0009 6. When the Wizard Complete page appears, click Finish. GxP compliance requirements When you install Empower Software for the first time, or when you uninstall the software, perform software qualification to meet GxP compliance requirements. Any time you install or uninstall software in a GxP environment, Waters recommends that you follow your company s management-approved standard operating procedures for changing software. For help making software change management decisions, refer to the Empower 2 SP G program files updates section in this document that explains the program file updates contained in this hotfix. To verify that the Empower 2 SP G installation did not affect any data, reprocess a data set before and after you install the software, and then verify that the results are equivalent. Run the Verify Files utility or the ConnectionsAQT for Empower IQ, and review the resulting file for an entry that states No installation changes were detected. Page 8 of 13

Installing Empower 2 SP G You can install this service pack by downloading it from the Waters web site or by using the CD-ROM. Restriction: There is no uninstall option for Empower 2 SP G. Tip: Although the installer is written in English only, it works on Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and English operating systems. Requirements: You must have local administrator privileges to install Empower 2 SP G. Note that the Domain Administrator account might not have local administrator account privileges. Empower 2 FR 5 (with or without the Licensing Wizard hotfix) or SP F (with or without SP F Hotfix 1) must be installed. You must install Empower 2 SP G on all computers on which Empower 2 software is installed, including workstations, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, and servers. To install Empower 2 SP G: 1. Insert the CD-ROM in the CD drive. 2. If the CD-ROM starts automatically, follow all the prompts to complete the installation. If the CD- ROM does not start automatically, browse to the CD drive in Windows Explorer, and double-click Empower2SPGSetup.exe. Verifying the Empower 2 SP G installation You can verify that Empower 2 SP G was installed by running a utility called Verify Files. Running Verify Files creates a checksum.txt file that maintains a record of all Empower options and service packs installed on an Empower computer. The checksum.txt file also verifies the integrity of disk files by comparing their current CRCs and sizes with original values recorded during installation of the base software and any installed option or service pack. To verify your Empower installation, click Start > All Programs > Empower > Verify Files. To view the checksum.txt file: From Windows Explorer, click Empower > Script > Checksum.txt.
