Examples: 2.0a, 2.0b. Changes in the last character f the versin number reflect minr changes in the internal sftware f the instrument that d nt affect the manner in which the instrument shuld be perated. 1. Overview 1.1 General HygrLg HL-NT is a series f netwrkable data lggers primarily designed fr use with the HygrClip 2 digital humidity-temperature prbes. Depending n the mdel and ptins, the HygrLg HL-NT main features are as fllws: Internal prbe input: allws installing a HC2-S humidity-temperature prbe internally t prevent unauthrized remval. This input can als be cnnected t an external prbe by means f an extensin cable. Inputs fr up t 6 additinal external prbes, including analg prbes and 4-wire passive RTD prbes. Mnitring f up t tw external cntacts (relay utput, dr, etc.). Large recrding capacity with remvable flash memry card. Up t 750,000 values can be recrded with the standard 16 MB card. Cards with a capacity f up t 1 GB are available. Display with backlight and keypad. This allws the HygrLg HL-NT t perate as a stand-alne unit after initial cnfiguratin with the HW4 sftware. Cmpliance with FDA 21 CFR Part II and GAMP regulatins regarding electrnic recrds and electrnic signatures (ERES). Cmpatible with Ethernet netwrks (TCP / IP prtcl LAN r WLAN). Dedicated RS-485 netwrk f up t 64 HygrLg HL-NT per cmmunicatin prt Simultaneus data recrding and data display either lcally r n a PC. Internal pwer fr bth the HygrLg HL-NT and prbes is prvided by a 9V battery (factry standard) r by a 9V rechargeable battery (user supplied). The HygrLg HL-NT requires a dcking statin t (a) t pwer the HygrLg HL-NT with an external AC adapter, (b) t cnfigure the HygrLg HL-NT and cmmunicate with a PC, (c) t cnnect the HygrLg HL-NT t a netwrk and (d) t munt the HygrLg HL-NT t a wall r t place the HygrLg HL-NT n the ptinal desk-tp stand. The mst basic mdel f dcking statin simply prvides a means f munting the HygrLg HL- NT t a wall and f pwering the HygrLg HL-NT with an external AC adapter. All ther mdels ffer the same functinality as the basic mdel and als prvide a cmmunicatin prt (RS232, USB r RJ45 / Ethernet) as well as additinal inputs fr prbes and external cntacts. Dcking statins with an RS232 r USB prt are used t cnnect the HygrLg HL-NT directly t a PC. Dcking statins with an RJ45 cnnectr are used t cnnect the HygrLg HL-NT t an Ethernet LAN. In bth cases, the dcking statin features an RS485 prt that can be used t cnnect up t 64 HygrLg HL-NT in a multi-drpped arrangement (dedicated RS-485 netwrk). This is useful when the PC des nt have an Ethernet netwrk interface card r when the number f available 2009-2010; Rtrnic AG IN-E-HL-NT-V2_11

Direct cnnectin t an Ethernet LAN allws, in principle, an unlimited number f HygrLg HL-NT t be put n a netwrk mnitred by the HW4 sftware. HW4 allws any cmbinatin f RS-232, USB, Ethernet and RS-485 cnnectins. When equipped with a dcking statin, the HygrLg HL-NT can be used tgether with the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware fr Windws based PCs (versin 2.3.0 r higher). In additin t prviding fr the netwrking f large quantities f data lggers and ther instruments, the main functins f HW4 include: Cnfiguratin f the HygrLg HL-NT and dcking statin Prgramming f the HygrLg HL-NT lgging functin Manual r autmatic dwnlading f the data recrded by the HygrLg HL-NT On-line data mnitring and direct data recrding by the PC Autmatic generatin f graphs and data tables Mnitring f the netwrked instruments and data fr alarm cnditins Alarm reprting Maintenance f audit trails Calibratin and adjustment f the HygrClip 2 prbes Generatin f prtcls, electrnic signatures, etc. A high level f prtectin against netwrk failures can be achieved by lgging data directly n the PC while als recrding the data lcally n the HygrLg HL-NT with autmatic dwnlad t the PC at regular interval f times. Nte: Instructins fr using the HW4 sftware are nt included in this manual. These instructins are shipped separately n the sftware CD ROM. 1.2 Cmpatibility with previus mdels f prbes and dcking statins The HygrLg HL-NT is designed fr use with the HygrClip 2 prbes (UART interface) and is nt cmpatible with the previus generatin f HygrClip prbes (DIO interface). Dcking statins designed fr the previus generatin f HygrClip prbes (such as DS- U1, DS-U4, etc.) are nt cmpatible with the HygrLg HL-NT. RS-485 drp-dwn netwrks: the HygrLg HL-NT is cmpatible with previus versins f the HygrLg NT and with ther legacy prducts. The HygrLg HL-NT cannt be used in the same RS-485 drp-dwn as a HF4 r HF5 transmitters r any prduct that rely n the RO-ASCII cmmunicatins prtcl. Unlike previus versins, The HygrLg HL-NT des nt have a remte mde 2009-2010; Rtrnic AG IN-E-HL-NT-V2_11

General descriptin f the HygrLg HL-NT 2.1 Mdels Basic mdels withut display and keypad HygrLg HL-NT2: lgger fr plug-in HygrClip 2 prbe (prbe is nt included and must be rdered separately). Prbe mdel HC2-S can be munted either internally r in the extended psitin. Other prbe mdels are external and require an extensin cable. HygrLg HL-NT3: same as HL-NT2 with 2 additinal cnnectrs suitable fr a HygrClip 2 digital prbe. Mdels with display and keypad HygrLg HL-NT2-D: same prbe as HygrLg HL-NT2 HygrLg HL-NT3-D: same prbe / prbe inputs as HygrLg HL-NT3 Mdels with internal HC2-S prbe pre-installed Mdels HL-NT2-P, HL-NT2-DP, HL-NT3-P and HL-NT3-DP are supplied with an internal HC2-S prbe pre-installed. 2.2 Required accessries Mdels withut display/keypad: The fllwing accessries are required in rder t be able t use the lgger: - Any mdel f dcking statin (except mdel DS-NT1) - Cnnecting cable dcking statin t PC - PC with the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware installed (versin 2.3.0 r higher) Mdels with display/keypad: In principle, these mdels can be used withut any accessry. Hwever, accessing all f the prduct functins and changing sme imprtant settings such as the date and time requires the same accessries as fr the mdels withut display. 2.3 HygrLg HL-NT inputs 2.3.1 Prbe input 1 HygrLg HL-NT2-P, HL-NT2-DP, HL-NT3-P and HL-NT3-DP: these mdels are supplied with an internal HC2-S plug-in prbe. This prbe can be either retracted r extended. The prbe can als be separated frm the lgger with an extensin cable, and in this case the HC2-S prbe may be replaced with anther mdel f HygrClip 2 prbe s as t meet specific applicatin 2009-2010; Rtrnic AG IN-E-HL-NT-V2_11

Open the husing f the HygrLg t change the psitin f the prbe r t install a prbe extensin cable. T pen the husing f the HygrLg, remve the five screws, as indicated by the arrws. The far right drawing shws the HygrClip S prbe in the retracted psitin. The base f the prbe is plugged int a cnnectr that is separated frm the main bard by a length f wire. Prbe cnnectr The shrter screw ges here T extend the prbe, lift the HygrClip S prbe frm its psitin and remve the sltted cap frm the HygrLg. T extend the prbe, place n the prbe the ring supplied with the HygrLg. Insert the ring int the slt in the instrument husing where the sltted cap was. Relcate the prbe cnnectr up by ne r tw ribs. Clse the instrument husing. Prceed in a similar manner t install a prbe extensin cable. HygrClip S extended psitin Ring (replaces the sltted cap) Extensin cable used t separate the prbe frm the HygrLg. 2009-2010; Rtrnic AG IN-E-HL-NT-V2_11

Fr a faster respnse, use the prbe in the extended psitin. Fr additinal infrmatin n the HygrClip 2 prbes see dcument E-M-HC2 Prbe s-v1. 2.3.2 Prbe inputs 2 and 3 (HygrLg HL-NT3) The HygrLg HL-NT3 can be used with up t 2 additinal HygrClip 2 prbes. Fr further infrmatin n the HygrClip 2 prbes, see dcument E-M-HC2 Prbe s-v1. 2.3.3 Cnnectr identificatin HL-NT2 Input 1 (HygrClip 2 prbe) HL-NT3 Input 1 (HygrClip 2 prbe) Input 2 (HygrClip 2 prbe) Input 3 (HygrClip 2 prbe) 2009-2010; Rtrnic AG IN-E-HL-NT-V2_11

T cnserve battery pwer, mdels with the LC display and keypad are shipped with the Display Sleep functin enabled (see Sftware Functins). When the keypad has nt been used fr sme time, this functin autmatically turns ff the display ff. The display can be temprarily activated by pressing n any key f the keypad. When cnnected t a dcking statin, the HygrLg HL-NT can be pwered with an external AC adapter. Nte: mst mdels f dcking statin require the use f an external AC adapter due t the current cnsumptin f the dcking statin internal electrnics. After recnfiguring the HygrLg HL-NT with the ROTRONIC HW4.sftware, a rechargeable battery (accumulatr) can be used instead f a regular battery. Recharging the battery require a dcking statin and an external AC adapter. WARNING: Trying t recharge a regular battery is ptentially dangerus. Whenever a regular battery is being used, the lgger shuld be cnfigured with the internal battery charge functin disabled. 2.4.1 Battery lifetime The battery lifetime depends n the manner in which the HygrLg HL-NT is being used. The HygrLg HL-NT has a battery lifetime f ne year when just ne HygrClip prbe is being used (standard 500 mah alkaline battery), when n dcking statin with internal electrnics is cnnected t the HygrLg HL-NT and when the lgger is cnfigured / prgrammed as fllws: Display Sleep functin enabled (mdels with display) N dcking statin with internal electrnics LED and beeper functins disabled Lg interval set t 15 minutes Additinal examples f battery lifetime (LED turned ff, Lgging active): in the fllwing table, LCD means that the LC display is permanently n (Display Sleep functin disabled). N dcking statin with internal electrnics is cnnected t the HygrLg HL-NT. With the display always n, pwer cnsumptin is at its highest when the display refresh rate is set with HW4 t the minimum f 5 sec. Because f the requirement t keep track f the date and time, the HygrLg HL-NT des nt have a pwer n/ff switch. Every minute, bth the date and time are recrded t the internal EEPROM. Secnds are nt recrded. In the event f a relatively brief interruptin f pwer (such as when replacing the battery), time may fall behind in increments f ne minute. Remving the battery fr an extended perid f time will cause the lgger t cmpletely lse track f the date and time. 2.4.2 Battery replacement T access the battery, remve the screw shwn t the right and pen the rubber cver. The battery is lcated at the bttm f the instrument. cver Prbe i t 5 battery 2.5 Memry card The HygrLg HL-NT has a nn-vlatile 64 kb EEPROM internal memry that is used t save the lgger cnfiguratin data, the lgger events and t temprarily hld measurement data. The main memry is a plug-in flash memry card. As a standard, the HygrLg HL-NT ships with a 16 MB card. This card allws the recrding f up t 400,000 values in text file frmat (unprtected) r up t 750,000 values in binary file frmat (prtected). Memry cards with a capacity f up t 1 GB can be purchased frm third parties. Regardless f its size, the flash memry card hlds a maximum f 512 files and directries, including ne lgger-cnfiguratin and ne lgger-event file. The measurement data can be saved either t a file with extensin XLS r t a file with extensin LOG. Files with XLS extensin can be read with Ntepad r imprted int Micrsft Excel. Files with extensin LOG are encded in binary frmat s as t prevent data manipulatin and can nly be read with the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware. Bth types f files can c-exist n the memry card. The memry card can be remved frm the lgger and transferred t a card reader, a PDA, etc. The flash memry card can als be read withut being remved frm the lgger. 2009-2010; Rtrnic AG IN-E-HL-NT-V2_11

The plug-in flash memry card is lcated n tp f the main bard. memry card cver screw 2.6 LED Indicatrs The HygrLg HL-NT is equipped with a green and red LED. The lgger can be cnfigured with HW4 t have the green side f the LED flash when lgging is active. The red side f the LED can be made t flash when there is an alarm cnditin (see nte belw) and / r when the lgger requires attentin (lw battery, flash memry card full, etc.) In the transient alarm mde, the red LED flashes fr nly as lng as the data frm a prbe crrespnds t an alarm cnditin. In the durable alarm mde, the red LED stays n even after the alarm cnditin has disappeared. When the LED is set t prvide a durable alarm, it can be reset frm the keypad r with HW4. 2.7 Beeper The HygrLg HL-NT is equipped with an internal beeper and can be cnfigured with HW4 t make a clicking sund when any key is being pressed. When n pressure prbe is being used, a fixed pressure value can be used. This value can be specified as part f the HygrLg HL-NT settings. 2.8.2 Data lgging Data lgging requires that a flash memry card be inserted inside the lgger. Using the HW4 sftware, lg files can be set t ne f the fllwing frmats: HW4 binary frmat [LOG]: files in this frmat are encded and can be pened nly with the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware. HW4 des nt allw any manipulatin / alteratin f the data and requires a passwrd t lg in. Shuld the file be smehw mdified, HW4 will give a warning that the file is nt an riginal. Text file frmat [XLS]: in principle, files in this frmat can be pened with any text editr and / r imprted int Micrsft Excel. The lg file frmat is a glbal setting f the flash memry card (changing this setting requires the HW4 sftware). At any given time, the card recrds data frm all inputs in either ne frmat r the ther. Files f different frmats can c-exist in the flash memry card. Binary files (prtected) use substantially less memry space than text files (unprtected). The lgging functin is independently activated fr each individual input. The HygrLg HL-NT creates a separate file fr each input that is t be recrded. Multiple inputs cannt be recrded t the same file. The HygrLg HL-NT autmatically generates each file name. A file name cnsists f 8 digits fllwed by the extensin LOG r XLS. The first 4 digits are the same as the last 4 digits f the lgger serial number, the 5 th digit is the same as the input number and the last 3 digits are a number between 000 and 999 used t differentiate lg files created fr the same input. The last number that was created is retained in the nn-vlatile EEPROM and is updated whenever a new file is created fr the input. When the number reaches 999, the next update will reset it t 000. All files are lcated in the rt directry f the flash memry card, including the lgger event file and the lgger cnfiguratin file. Regardless f the memry card capacity, the rt directry is limited t a maximum f 250 files. This means that the memry card can hld a maximum f 248 lg files, and that a card with this amunt f files is cnsidered t be full, even if all the memry has nt been used. When lgging is ended, the HygrLg HL-NT returns t the measuring mde. 2.8.3 Trend indicatrs See als: Main perating mdes and measurement interval When the trend indicatr functin is enabled, a symbl appears n the left side f the LC display, n the line crrespnding t each measured r calculated value. An up arrw dentes a rising value and a dwn arrw dentes a decreasing value. Bth arrws dente a stable value. The trend f a parameter is evaluated by cmparing successive averages made f 6 values each. With the shrtest pssible measurement interval f 5 secnds, each average cvers a time perid f 30 secnds and the first indicatin f a trend is available after ne minute. Subsequently, the trend is evaluated and updated every 30 secnds. With a lnger measurement interval, each average is cmputed ver a lnger perid f time (always using 6 values) and the trend is als updated ver lnger intervals f time. Fr any measured r calculated parameter, the trend indicatr shws a stable cnditin when the abslute value f the difference between tw successive averages is < 0.02. 2.8.4 Alarm functin Using the HW4 sftware, bth a high and a lw alarm value can be assciated with the humidity, temperature and calculated parameter f each prbe input, A hysteresis value can als be entered fr each parameter. Hwever, when the cntents f a lg file are viewed as a data table with the HW4 sftware, values that crrespnd t an alarm cnditin are printed ver a red backgrund, based n the alarm settings that HW4 dwnladed frm the lgger. 2.8.5 Display-Sleep functin This functin can be enabled and cnfigured nly with the HW4 sftware. Using the Display Sleep functin can substantially extend the lifetime f the battery. When the Display Sleep functin is active, the LC display f the HygrLg HL-NT stays blank. The Display Sleep functin is effective bth in the measure and in the recrd mde. The display f the HygrLg HL-NT can be set t be always n. It can als be set t autmatically g blank after 30 secnds, 1, 5, 10 r 20 minutes when n key is being pressed r when there is n cmmunicatin with a PC. If the HygrClip NT was in the functin menu at the time the display ges blank, it autmatically exits the menu. The HygrLg suspends the Display Sleep functin whenever a key is pressed. The functin is als suspended when external pwer is available r when the lgger receives a cmmunicatin request (fr example frm a PC 1 ). When the display cmes up again, it shws by default the measurements frm the prbe that was selected last. 1 When the HygrLg HL-NT is cnnected by means f a dcking statin t a PC and HW4 is running, yu shuld use an external AC adapter t pwer bth the HygrLg HL-NT and dcking statin. HW4 can be set t use a plling interval as shrt as 5 secnds t interrgate all instruments cnnected t the PC and this culd cause the battery life time t be sharply reduced. 2.9 HygrClip 2 prbe functins 2.9.1 Simulatr functin (validatin f the signal transmissin): If s desired, transmissin f the HC2 prbe utput signals can be validated by using the prbe simulatr functin. The HW4 sftware is required t enable and cnfigure this functin. When the functin is enabled the prbe generates digital and analg signals crrespnding t values specified by the user. 2.9.2 Sensr failure detectin and fail safe mde: The HygrClip 2 prbe autmatically detects a sensr failure such as a shrted r pen sensr. This functin is always enabled. Part f the prcedure t ensure cnfrmity t the FDA requirements is t use the HW4 sftware t disable the MENU key n the HygrLg HL-NT keypad. The MENU key is the nly key that can be used t make changes t the HygrLg HL-NT. When this prcedure is implemented, the events recrded by the HygrLg HL-NT are the result f an interactin with the HW4 sftware. When the MENU key is nt disabled, a limited number f events are recrded in the lgger event file. In this case n entries are made in the lgger event file header. The tw tables belw prvide a list f the events tracked by the HygrLg HL-NT. The lgger event file is split between the internal memry f the lgger (up t 170 events) and the flash memry card (practically unlimited number f events). HW4 ffers the pssibility f dwnlading, pening and printing the entire file cntents. All past lgger events are available t HW4 as lng as the flash memry card is nt remved frm the lgger. Any mdel f HygrClip 2 prbe can be cnnected these using ne f the available extensin cables. See dcument E-M-HC2-acce ssries. 3.3.2 1-channel analg prbes with vltage utput Inputs 4, 5, 7 and 7 f dcking statins HL-DS-U1, HL-DS-U2, HL-U4 and HL-DS-U4-WL can als be cnfigured t accept ne f the fllwing: 1-channel analg prbe: T be cmpatible with the dcking statin the analg prbe must meet the fllwing requirements: supply vltage: 5 VDC, current cnsumptin: max. 10 ma, utput signal: 0 t max. 3.3 VDC. The dcking statin uses a 12-bit A/D cnverter t digitize the prbe analg signal and can be cnfigured t measure practically any parameter. Analg pressure prbe: this is a special case f analg prbe and is subject t the same cmpatibility requirements. When analg pressure prbe is selected, any input f the HygrLg HL-NT and dcking statin can be cnfigured t use the signal frm the pressure prbe t calculate any humidity parameter that requires barmetric pressure as an input value (example: mixing rati). 3.3.3 1-channel analg prbes with current utput Dcking statin HL-DS-U4-420 is similar t dcking statin HL-DS-U4 with the difference that it accepts up t fur 3-wire single channel analg prbes with a 4-20 ma current utput signal. Each prbe input uses an internal 150 Ohm resistr t cnvert 4 20 ma t 600 3000 mv (nminal). The HW4 sftware allws a 2-pint adjustment f the ma t mv cnversin t cmpensate fr the tlerance n the 150 Ohm resistr (use Device Manager in HW4). The prbes are pwered by the dcking statin (supply vltage: 5 VDC, maximum current draw: 10 ma / prbe). 3.3.4 Pt100 RTD 4-wire prbes Dcking statins HL-DS-PT2, HL-DS-PT4 and HL-DS-P T4-WL are designed fr 4-wire RTD prbes. These dcking statins allw the measurement f temperature cnditins within the range f -100 t 600 C. Accuracy depends n the class f the Pt100 RTD. Adjustment f the RTD inputs against a reference temperature is limited t a 1-pint adjustment (glbal ffset). 3.3.5 Lgical inputs (n / ff) Several mdels f dcking statin allw the HygrLg HL-NT t prcess up t 2 lgical inputs. ERES regulatry cmpliance In rder t cmply with ERES regulatry requirements (Electrnic Recrds and Electrnic Signatures), the HygrLg HL-NT shuld be used tgether with the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware Prfessinal Editin (versin 2.3.0 r higher). HW4 is designed t keep track f lgger cnfiguratin changes, prgramming changes and f any prbe adjustment. HW4 als keeps track f user events (main peratins perfrmed by each user) and self-events (sftware prblems). The recrds generated by HW4 are prtected with an electrnic authenticatin stamp, can be crss referenced and can be electrnically signed. IMPORTANT: In rder t cmply with ERES regulatry requirements, be sure t cnfigure bth the HygrLg HL-NT and the HW4 sftware as fllws: In HW4, create a user with full rights (administratr) and a passwrd (see HW4 manual - Users and Passwrds). After creating the first user, be sure t lg in as this user (see HW4 manual - Users and Passwrds - Change User). This enables bth the HygrLg HL-NT and the HW4 sftware t maintain a recrd f events and t assciate these with a specific user. Create additinal users with r withut limited rights, as per yur requirements.
