Install Interact for Microsoft Office ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office adds the version control, project, and search features of the ImageNow document management system to Microsoft Office. If you don t have the full ImageNow client installed on your computer, you ll need to determine the server name, and port number of the ImageNow Server to which your Interact for Microsoft Office will be connecting. You may be required to restart your computer following installation. Download Interact for Office 1. Go to the Perceptive Software website at www.perceptivesoftware.com, click Customer Portal, enter your user name and password, and then click Downloads. 2. In the Product Downloads page, download the following files to a temporary directory on your computer: The product installer The product readme 3. Review the product readme. 4. Unzip the installer if applicable. Run the Interact for Office installation wizard 1. Save any Microsoft Office documents you are working on and close Office. 2. Double-click the EXE file you just downloaded. 3. In the Welcome to the Installation Wizard for ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office page, click Next. 4. On the License Agreement page, review the terms in the License Agreement, scroll to the end of the agreement, click I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next. 5. If the Default Connection Profile page appears, enter the appropriate values in the Profile Name, Server Name, and Port Number boxes, and then click Next. 6. In the Destination Folder page, do one of the following actions: If your computer is running ImageNow Client, click Next. If your computer is not running ImageNow Client, and you need to change the installation path, click Change, browse to and select the installation folder you want, click OK, and then click Next. 7. In the Ready to Install the Program page, click Install. 8. Optional. In the Installation Wizard Completed page, if you want to run ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office immediately, select the Launch ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office check box. 9. Optional. If the Show the Windows Installer log check box appears, you can select the check box to view the log file. 10. Click Finish. Page 3 of 15

Disable single sign on By default, if you use ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office as well as ImageNow Desktop Client, when you log into one application (ImageNow Interact or ImageNow Desktop Client), you are not required to enter a user name or password when you initiate a connection to the other program if the single sign-on option is enabled. If you want to be prompted separately to log in to each program, perform one or more of the procedures below. Disable single sign on for all users who connect to an ImageNow Server By default, ImageNow Interact automatically logs ImageNow Client users into ImageNow when they connect to ImageNow Server. To require a separate, additional login for all ImageNow Interact users who have already connected as ImageNow Client users, make the changes described in the following steps. 1. Use a text editing program such as Notepad to make the following changes on the ImageNow Server computer. 2. In the inserver6\etc\ folder, open the inow.ini file. 3. In the [Logon Control] section, change the single sign on setting as follows: logon.singlesignon.enable=false 4. Save and then close the inow.ini file. Disable single sign on for a single ImageNow Client user By default, ImageNow Interact automatically logs ImageNow Client users into ImageNow when they connect to ImageNow Server. To require a separate, additional login for a single ImageNow Interact user who has already connected as ImageNow Client user, make the changes described in the following steps. 1. Use a text editing program such as Notepad to make the following changes on the ImageNow client computer. 2. Open the Documents and Settings\<client user name>\application Data\ImageNow folder, where <client user name> is a placeholder for your Windows user name. 3. Open the Documents and Settings\<client user name>\application Data\Interact folder, where <client user name> is a placeholder for your Windows user name. 3. 4. In the [Logon Settings] section, change the single sign on setting as follows: logon.singlesignon.enable=false 5. Save and close the Interact.ini file. Start ImageNow Interact for Office You can start ImageNow Interact in several ways: If you selected the Launch ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office check box on the final page of the installation wizard, the ImageNow Interact console appears on your desktop. The ImageNow Interact control appears alongside other toolbars or Ribbon tabs the next time you open Microsoft Office. To connect to Interact, click the Connect button. To display the console, click the Search button. Right-click the ImageNow System Tray icon and select Show Interact Console. Get Help Display the Interact console, as explained in the previous section, and then, on the Help menu, click ImageNow Interact Help. Page 5 of 15

Use ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office The following sections explain how to use ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office. These sections include: The current section, which introduces the Interact for Office controls and routine tasks. Work with ImageNow projects Customize ImageNow Interact controls Troubleshoot About ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office ImageNow Interact for Microsoft Office lets you preserve and organize your Office files in a version control system without having to switch to a different program. You can add any Office file you are working on to the ImageNow document management system, where it becomes available for immediate checkout and editing by yourself and, if you allow public access to the document, by other users who have security access to the ImageNow repository. The accompanying ImageNow Interact console gives you the additional conveniences of creating projects for related documents and searching for other documents and projects on the system. Using the Interact console, you can also add files not created by Microsoft Office to the ImageNow repository and optionally group these with other files either by using common document key values or by adding similar documents to a common project. This section explains how to use ImageNow Interact features while you are working in Microsoft Office. For help topics that apply to ImageNow Interact console, display the console by clicking the Search button. Then, on the Help menu of the console, click ImageNow Interact Help. Interact for Office controls The following ImageNow Interact buttons appear on your Office toolbar (Office 2003) or Ribbon tab (Office 2007). You must be connected to ImageNow to enable most of the buttons. In Office 2003, to view the last four buttons, click More. To move these buttons out of the More list, refer to the Customize ImageNow Interact controls section. Button Name Description Connect Disconnect Add Search Check In Start ImageNow Interact for Office and enable additional controls on the toolbar. Stop ImageNow Interact for Office and disable the other controls on the toolbar. Show the New Document dialog box, in which you add your document to ImageNow, specifying document keys and other information about how your document is stored in ImageNow. Display the ImageNow Interact console, in which you can perform searches for projects and documents. Create a new version of your document in ImageNow. You must save your document before you can check it in. Page 6 of 15

You must add your document to ImageNow before you can check it out. Cancel your previous checkout. You lose any changes you made since checking the document out, although you can save the document under a different file name to preserve the changes. Display the Version tab of the Properties dialog box for the document. Display page, project, and version history information about the document. Add the document to an existing or new project. This feature requires the definition of at least one project type on the ImageNow Server. Remove the document from one or more projects. Display all projects to which the document was added. The following sections describe the function of each button in detail. Connect to ImageNow 1. In the ImageNow Interact controls, click the Connect button. 2. In the ImageNow Interact dialog box, select your profile, enter your user name and password, and then click Connect. Disconnect from ImageNow This action does not affect the checked-out status of any documents you have added to ImageNow. If a document is checked out when you disconnect, it remains checked out the next time you connect. Click the Disconnect button. Add an Office file to ImageNow 1. Create or open the Office file. 2. Connect to ImageNow Interact. 3. In the ImageNow Interact controls, click the Add Document button. 4. In the New Document dialog box, select an ImageNow template or <None> and select an ImageNow queue or <None>. 5. Click the column to the right of Drawer and select the drawer you want. 6. Enter a value in the right column of at least one of the following rows: Folder, Tab, Field 3, Field 4, or Field 5. (If you selected a template previously, you may be required to enter values in two or more of these rows.) You can use one of the available rows to hold the name of the file you are adding. 7. Click the column to the right of Document Type and select a document type. Page 7 of 15

8. If you specify a document type that is associated with custom properties, you can expand the Document Type list and enter values in one or more custom property rows. 9. Optional. Click More and do any or all of the following actions: Option Comments Check out this document Mark as private Description Enter a comment. Select this check box to continue working on the document. Select this check box to prevent other users from seeing the current version of the document. 10. Click Add. Note To add a non-office file to ImageNow, refer to the Working with non-office files section below. Check a document out 1. Open the file in Office and connect to ImageNow. 2. Click the Check Out button. 3. In the Check Out dialog box, in the Comments box, enter any text that you want as a comment to accompany the new version of the document. 4. Optional. Click More and check any of the following options you want. Option Prompt for file location Select the page(s) to edit locally Description Cause Interact to prompt you for the local folder in which a local copy of the document is saved. Make only parts of a multi-page document available for editing by selecting the check boxes of the pages that you want to edit. 5. Click OK. Check a document in Checking a document into ImageNow creates a new version of the document. Interact for Office retains previous versions in version history. 1. Open the file in Office and connect to ImageNow. 2. Click the Check In button. 3. In the Check In dialog box, in the Comments box, enter any text that you want as a comment to accompany the new version of the document. Page 8 of 15

4. Optional. Click More and check any of the following options you want. Option Delete local copy Keep checked out Mark as private Prompt for file location Select one or multiple pages Description Delete the copy of the document created when you checked it out. Keep the document checked out for more changes. Prevent other ImageNow users from viewing the latest version of the document. The document still appears in the Interact console grid. Check in a document from a different location. This allows you to check in a separate file as the current version of the original document. You could also check in the same file after first moving it to a different location. Indicate which files are sent back to ImageNow Server during the check in process. 5. Click OK. Undo a check out This action causes your document to lose any additions or changes made since you last checked it out. 1. Click the Undo Check Out button. 2. In the Undo Check Out dialog box, if you want to remove the copy of the document on your computer, select the Delete local copy check box. 3. Click OK. View document properties 1. Open the Office file. 2. In the ImageNow Interact controls, click the Properties button. 3. In the Document Properties dialog box, view document information in the Page, Source, and Content tabs. Note If you do not have ImageNow Content Server installed, the Content tab does not appear. Copy an Office file that has been added to ImageNow 1. Open the document you want to copy but do not check it out. 2. Save the file under a new name. 3. On the ImageNow toolbar, click the Add Document button. 4. In the New Document dialog box, enter at least one value for Drawer, Folder, Tab, or other field that is different from the values used for the original document, and then click Add. Note The newly added document has contents that are identical to those of the original document. Work with non-office files You can add files not created by Microsoft Office to ImageNow. You can also share any documents residing in the ImageNow repository with other users, as explained in the Help topics for the Interact console. Page 9 of 15

Add a non-office file to ImageNow 1. Go to the Windows desktop, locate the file, and then right-click it. 2. In the shortcut menu, click Add to ImageNow. Interact for Office prompts you to connect to ImageNow Interact if you are not yet connected. 3. In the New Document dialog box, select an ImageNow template or <None> and then select an ImageNow queue or <None>. 4. Click the column to the right of Drawer and select the drawer you want. 5. Enter a value in the right column of at least one of the following rows: Folder, Tab, Field 3, Field 4, or Field 5. (If you selected a template previously, you may be required to enter values in two or more of these rows.) You can use one of the available rows to hold the name of the file you are adding. 6. Click the column to the right of Document Type and select a document type. 7. If you specify a document type that is associated with custom properties, you can expand the Document Type list and enter values in one or more custom property rows. 8. Optional. Select this check box to prevent other users from seeing the current version of the document. 9. Click Add. Replace or append to an ImageNow document 1. To select the destination document, click the Search button to display the ImageNow Interact console. 2. In the Interact console grid, display the destination document as explained in the Help topics for the Interact console. Refer to the Search for a document topic. 3. In Windows Explorer, locate the replacement or appending file and drag it on top of the destination document in the Interact console grid. 4. In the New Document dialog box, click Add. 5. In the Duplicate Keys dialog box, perform one of the following actions: To add the file as a new page to the destination document, click Append to the existing document. To replace the destination document, click Replace the existing document. 6. Click OK and then click Close. Page 10 of 15

Work with ImageNow projects You can use ImageNow projects to organize your ImageNow documents into groups that share some related characteristic or purpose by adding documents to existing projects or to newly created projects. You can add a document to more than one project. You can search for projects using the same methods you use when searching for documents. If two or more projects include the same document, they are known as related projects. Add a document to a project 1. Open the Office file and add it to ImageNow if you have not already done so. 2. In the ImageNow Interact controls, click the Add to Project button. 3. If you are adding the document to an existing project, skip to step 9. 4. If you want to create a new project for this document, click New Project. 5. In the Type list, select the project type you want. 6. In the Name box, type the name of the new project. 7. If items appear in the Custom properties pane, enter any appropriate values. 8. Click OK, click Add, and then skip the remaining steps. 9. If you are adding your document to an existing project, in the Add to Projects dialog box, do any of the following actions to find the project type you need and any existing project names: 1. In the Filter by list, select the project type you want to search. 2. In the Include list, select Active projects only if you only want to search for active projects, or select All projects if you want to search for active and inactive projects. 3. In the Starts with box, type the name of the project. Note If you enter only the first few letters of the project name, the search finds all projects starting with those letters. 10. Click Search. 11. In the project list, select the project you want, click Add. Remove a document from a project 1. Open the Office file. In the ImageNow Interact controls, click the Remove from Project button. 2. In the Remove from Project dialog box, to limit the number of projects displayed, in the Filter by list, select the project type you want to search. 3. In the project list, click the project, or use SHIFT+click to select the multiple projects, from which you are removing the document, and then click Remove. Page 11 of 15

View a related project 1. Open the Office file that already added to one or more ImageNow projects. 2. In the ImageNow Interact controls, click the View Related Projects button. Note If the document is in only one project, that project and its contents appear in the Project Contents pane. 3. If the View Related Projects dialog box appears, the document is in more than one project. Click the project that you want to open and then click View. Note If the list of projects is quite long, you can display fewer rows by choosing a project type in the Filter by list before selecting a project. Page 12 of 15

Customize ImageNow Interact controls The following procedure shows Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 users how to modify the appearance of the ImageNow controls by moving them to or from the More menu. You can modify these controls differently for each of your Office applications. 1. Disconnect from ImageNow and close any Office applications. 2. In Windows Explorer, browse to the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\application Data\Interact\ where <user name> is a placeholder for your Windows user name. 3. Perform one of the following substeps: For Office 2003: 1. Use a text editor to open the initialization (INI) file for the Office application you want to customize. These files are InteractOffice_Word2003.ini, InteractOffice_Excel2003.ini, InteractOffice_PowerPoint2003.ini, and InteractOffice_Visio2003.ini. Note If you do not see the file you are looking for, open the corresponding application and then close it to create the INI file. 2. Do one or more of the following actions: To move a control into the ImageNow Interact More menu, in the [Addin Toolbar] section, select and cut the corresponding row and then paste it into the [More Menu] section. To move a control out of the ImageNow Interact More menu, in the [More Toolbar] section, select and cut the corresponding row and then paste it into the [Addin Menu] section. To add a separator bar before a control, change the right end of its row from =1 to =2. To remove a separator bar from a control, change the right end of its row from =2 to =1. For Office 2007: 1. Use a text editor to open the configuration file (XML) file for the Office application you want to customize. These files are InteractUI_Excel2007.xml, InteractUI_PowerPoint2007.xml, and InteractUI_Word2007.xml. Use these files for both versions of Word. Note If you do not see the file you are looking for, open the corresponding application and then close it to create the XML file. 2. Perform one or more of the following actions for the Interact More menu, in the <officemenu> node: To add a control, add an element row for that control. To change the order of the controls, move the element rows around as needed. To remove a control, remove the element row. 3. Perform one or more of the following actions for the Interact tab, in the <tabs> node: To add a control, add an element row for that control. To change the order of the controls, move the element rows around as needed. To remove a control, remove the element row. 4. Save the file. Page 13 of 15

Troubleshoot Issue: ImageNow Interact asks me to append or replace my document, but I do not want to do either. Solution: In the New Document dialog box, change one of the document keys (such as Folder, Tab, or Field 3) to a different value. Issue: My ImageNow Interact console does not appear. Solution: Disconnect from Interact, close all Office programs, and close the ImageNow Interact login dialog box if it is open. Then delete the interact.ini file in the C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\application Data\Interact\ directory, and then reconnect to Interact. Issue: I cannot insert a new line into a comment when checking a document in or out. Solution: Press CTRL+ENTER to start a new line. Issue: ImageNow Interact controls do not appear in my Office application. Solution: Perform one or more of the following actions: For Office 2003: In the Office application, on the Help menu, click the About item and then click Disabled Items. If ImageNow Interact appears in the list, select it and then click Enable. On the Tools menu, click Customize. On the Toolbar tab, verify that the ImageNow Interact check box is selected. For Office 2007: On the Office button, click Word Options, in the Word Options dialog box, click Add-Ins, verify that COM Add-ins is in the Manage list, and then click Go. In the COM Add-Ins dialog box, verify that the ImageNow Interact for Office check box is selected, and then click OK. Unregister and then re-register the DLL as explained below: 1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, in the Open box, type cmd and click OK. 2. In the cmd.exe window, at the command prompt, type cd [drive:]\program Files\ImageNow6\bin and press ENTER. 3. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 /u InteractOffice.dll, press ENTER, and then click OK. 4. Type regsvr32 InteractOffice.dll, press ENTER and then click OK. 5. Close the cmd.exe window.
