Cnclusins Like fr many ther interperability related prblems it is impssible t define a generic slutin f the translatin prblem. But it seems t be realistic t intrduce subsets r prfiles f dcument features that are imprtant fr specific applicatin areas and that avid fancy features that may be nice t use but prevent interperability. Fr such subsets a crrespnding dcument mdel including mappings t available dcument frmats can be frmally defined and validated. Such an apprach slves the prblem resulting frm different versins f the dcument frmats and eases the definitin f translatin rules between the different frmats. Different tls will in many cases prduce different results f a translatin between the tw dcument frmats. Therefre the tl must be carefully chsen depending n the given requirements, the available envirnments and the intentin f the dcument's prducers and cnsumers. A cmprehensive dcumentatin f hw a standard is interpreted and implemented helps a lt t understand the behaviur f the apprpriate ffice suites and the implementatin f filters and translatin rules. Therefre it seems t be desirable t prvide cmprehensive dcumentatin such as the descriptin f the ODF implementatin in Micrsft Office, the cmmunity frum f OpenOffice.rg, and t further activities like the OASIS interperability and Cnfrmance TC. It shuld be identified clearly which parts f a standard allw different implementatins and prbably have t be refined in later versins. The TR is fcusing n the translatin between the tw standards nt n the features f available implementatins. 26
