AACE s Certification requirements have been established to reflect the sophistication of individuals in today s cost and management profession and to fairly measure their knowledge, experience, and best management skills. AACE s CCC/CCE program is independently accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards and the International Cost Engineering Council. SUMMARY OF THE AACE CERTIFICATION PROCESS Candidates sitting for any of AACE s Certifications must meet these minimum requirements, unless otherwise indicated: Experience requirements At least 8 full years of professional experience, of which up to 4 years may be substituted by a college/university degree is required for the CCC/CCE/EVP/PSP certifications. At least 4 full years of professional experience, of which up to 4 years may be substituted by a college/university degree is required for the ICC certification. Related degrees include: engineering, building construction, construction technology, business, economics, accounting, construction management, architecture, computer science, mathematics, etc. Submit application and fees For the CCC/CCE/EVP/PSP AACE Members US$350.00 Non-Members US$475.00 For the ICC AACE Members US$150.00 Non-Members US$200.00 Submit the application, work/education verification, and fees at least 40 days before the next exam date to be scheduled at an examination site. Check AACE s website, www.aacei.org, for upcoming dates and information.

Document Experience/Education Applications are reviewed and verified. Please submit a copy of the college degree(s) with your application, plus any letters that could expedite the verification process. (A verification of your employment can be as simple as a signed brief letter from your supervisor or human resources representative citing the dates of your employment and a brief description of your work duties.) Pass the Examination A 70% passing grade must be achieved on the examination as determined by the AACE Certification Board. The CCC/CCE/EVP/PSP certification examination begins at 8:00 AM and concludes at 5:00 PM. Each part is 1 hour 45 minutes in length, with a 15 minute break between each part. There is a 2 hour break for lunch. The ICC certification examination begins at 8:00 AM and concludes at 12:00 Noon. Each part is 1 hour 45 minutes in length. For the CCC/CCE: Part 1 50 multiple-choice questions on Supporting Skills & Knowledge (open book) Part 2 on Cost Estimating and Control Part 3 on Project Management Part 4 on Economic Analysis (open book) Parts 2, 3 and 4 consist of two sections each. The first section has 5 compound questions which contain 7 multiple-choice questions each. You will choose to answer only TWO of these compound questions, resulting in answering only 14 multiple-choice questions for the first section of each part. The second section of each part consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. Professional Paper Requirement: You will submit an electronic copy of a minimum 2,500 words on a cost engineering-related subject which must be submitted before or at the time of the examination. Papers previously authored within the prior three years may be used if they meet the specific technical and length requirements. Papers are graded on a pass/fail basis. For the EVP/PSP: Part 1 multiple-choice Part 2 multiple-choice Part 3 series of complex applications/multiple-choice Part 4 communications exercise 1-page memo EVP Exam Part 1 consists of 70 multiple-choice questions concerning the general planning, organization, planning and budgeting. Part 2 consists of 70 multiple-choice questions involving accounting, analysis and revisions. Part 3 entails answering various number of multiple-choice questions about a series of complex applications. Part 4 requires the candidate to draft the equivalent of a one-page typewritten memorandum to simulate reporting on earned value analysis to the project manager, explaining the issues and proposing a solution regarding a given problem. PSP Exam Part 1 consists of 80 multiple-choice questions concerning the basics of planning and scheduling. Part 2 consists of 40 multiple-choice questions concerning planning and scheduling scenarios. Some of the questions may be compound in nature. Part 3 is a practicum where the candidate will be required to solve a complex planning/scheduling problem and answer as series of 40 multiple choice questions concerning the problem. Part 4 consists of the candidate drafting a one page (maximum) memorandum to his/her project manager communicating the issues and proposing solutions. For the ICC: Part 1 50 multiple-choice questions on Supporting Skills & Knowledge Part 2 50 multiple-choice questions on Supporting Skills & Knowledge The ICC candidate is to choose a mentor (as a professional assistant) to help guide them while continuing to develop their professional skills and moving toward the next higher level of their career during the next four full years after earning the ICC certification. Preferably, the mentor will be a CCC or CCE. The ICC s work supervisor or a college professor might also be appropriate.

Ethics By submitting an AACE Certification application, you must agree to adhere to the AACE Canon of Ethics. This is a criterion that says all individuals will practice their profession in a manner that meets fundamental ethical standards. As Your Career Advances, AACE Certification Goes With You AACE s certification programs are versatile. AACE Certification is a mark of distinction. As with any of our certifications, a primary concern is to ensure that all of your credentials are up to date. That is why AACE requires you to recertify your CCC, CCE, EVP or PSP certification every 3 years by either professional credit plan or re-testing. The recertification program is designed to ensure that you have maintained continued expertise through work experience, continuing education, professional development, and active involvement in the profession. The ICC does not recertify but instead, you can pursue the CCC or CCE designation. Cancellation/Refund Policy AACE Certification application fees are non-refundable. An applicant scheduled to take an examination who fails to appear at the scheduled time and place is required to pay a re-sit fee of $60.00 for the CCC/CCE/EVP/PSP or $25.00 for ICC before rescheduling to take the examination at a later date. Exceptions should be requested in writing to the AACE Certification Board. Exam on Demand! AACE Certification examinations are now available at any time during the year (instead of only in June/July and December) as long as the following criteria are met: Headquarters must receive a 40-day notice for the exam date The exam is generally offered to a group of 5 or more candidates The proctoring body must be a corporation/ employer or a local section of AACE International All participants applications must be received at AACE Headquarters no later than 30 days in advance of the exam date Questions?
