3. Remote Files View Remote Files View shows you the files that the remote computer is sharing with you. Using this view, you can access files from remote computer or upload files to remote computer. 7

Chapter 3. Installing itwin on Windows Installation Overview To use itwin with any computer you need to first install itwin software on that computer. itwin software installation and use is initiated by plugging in the device into the USB port of the computer. First time install on the first computer: Plug the device in the pair configuration into an online computer you will be guided through the itwin Installation process. Device Setup (Pair Configuration) At the end of the installation, itwin application will run and the Local Files View will open up. Drag and Drop files and folders into the Local Files View to share them with a second computer. First time install on the second computer: Plug in one half of the device into the second computer. You will be guided through the itwin Installation process. Device Setup (One Half for Access) At the end of the installation, itwin application will run and the Remote Files View will open up. From here, you can access the files that you shared from the first computer. 8

itwin Installation 1. Plug in the itwin device into your computer. If itwin does not start automatically within 30 seconds, go to Start -> Computer -> itwin Installer -> itwin.exe. Windows Vista & 7 users: Click on Run itwin.exe when pop-up appears. 2. An itwin splash screen will appear. While you see the splash screen, itwin is downloading the latest version of the itwin software suitable for your computer. 9

You itwin software installation will complete in a short time. If you started installation with one half of a paired device, itwin will be ready for use and the Remote Files View will open up. If you started installation with the device in pair configuration, itwin will be ready for use after the itwin Pair Initialization. 10

itwin Pair Initialization 1) Insert the device in the pair configuration for the initialization process to start. During this process a cryptographic secret key is shared between the two halves of the itwin device. 2) itwin Splash screen will appear and start the initialization process. To help you set up the device and its security, two dialog boxes will open up: a. Set a Friendly Name for the device. This helps you to identify the device especially when more than one device is plugged into your computer. b. Create a Disable Code for your itwin pair. Register your email address to receive a unique Disable Code by email with a link 11

to quickly disable itwin pairing if one half of itwin is lost. The initialization and configuration of your itwin pair is now complete and your itwin device is ready for use! Note: If you ever pair the two halves, please register your email address again. This is because a pairing deletes any existing Disable Code. The last Disable Code sent to you is the only one that remains valid. 3) The itwin Local Files View opens up. You can also open this View from the taskbar notification area. Click on itwin icon and select Local Files from itwin Menu. 12

Drag and Drop files and folders into this Local Files View to share files with a second computer. You can even drag and drop entire drives to have them available for remote access. 4) Detach half of itwin to take it with you on-the-go. Warning: You cannot remotely disable the connection between the two halves of itwin unless you register your email address at this point before the other half is installed or used on a remote computer. See also Preventing Unauthorized Access. 13

5) Take the detached half and insert it into a second computer. itwin Installation will start if itwin is not already installed on the computer. 6) When itwin is ready for use, the Remote Files View will open up. You can also open Remote Files View from the taskbar notification area. Click on itwin icon and select Remote Files in the itwin Menu. 14

Another way to open Remote Files View or Local Files View is to open the Windows Explorer and click on Computer. Under Others, you will see itwin Local Files and itwin Remote Files. 15

Chapter 4. Sharing Files & Folders 1) Plug in itwin device and open Local Files View by clicking on itwin icon in taskbar notification area. 2) To share, drag & drop your files & folders into the itwin Local Files View. You can drag and drop entire drives if you wish to access them from a second computer. All files dropped here will be accessible from Remote Files View on a computer to which the other half of the itwin is attached. 3) Leave half of itwin plugged into that computer. 4) Leave that computer powered on & connected to the Internet. 5) Take the other half of itwin with you wherever you go. To unshare a file or folder from the Local Files View, right click on the file or folder and select unshare or select the file or folder and press Delete key. 16

Chapter 5. Accessing Files & Folders On-The-Go 1) With one half of itwin plugged into a first online computer, plug the other half of itwin into a second, online computer. The itwin Remote Files View opens up, showing the files shared from the first computer. To open this view you can click on itwin icon in taskbar notification area and select Remote Files. 2) You can read and edit the files or folders directly by clicking on them. 3) To copy the first computer s shared files & folders onto the local computer, drag & drop them from the itwin Remote Files View onto the desktop or into any folder on the local computer. The files will be copied to that location. 17

Chapter 6. Backing up Files & Folders On-The-Go You can back-up (upload) files from local computer to the remote computer using itwin. 1) With half of itwin plugged into a remote computer, plug the other half of itwin into the local, online computer. Go to the itwin Remote Files View (if it is not visible, open it via the itwin icon in the taskbar notification area). 2) Select the files & folders you want to back-up and drag & drop them into the itwin Remote Files View or into a folder in the itwin Remote Files View. 3) The files will now be securely backed up (uploaded) to the remote computer s desktop or to the chosen remote folder, respectively. 18

Chapter 7. Editing Files On-The-Go 1) Open any files in the itwin Remote Files View. You can now edit it as if it were on your local computer. There is no need for you to explicitly copy the files to your local computer to be able to edit it. 2) After editing the remote files, when you save your changes, the changes are automatically updated to the remote computer. 3) Close any open remote files that you were editing before you pull out the device. 19

Chapter 8. Preventing Unauthorized Access itwin provides 256-bit AES encryption for all data transferred. However, as a precaution, in case of possible loss of one half of itwin, choose any of these 3 ways to prevent unauthorized access to your data. Don t wait till it s too late. 1. Remote Disable After itwin Pair Initialization, Click the itwin icon in the System Tray and select Set Security Options followed by Generate itwin Disable Code. Upon registration, an email will be sent to you with instructions on disabling the connection between the two halves of your itwin. 20

2. Password After itwin Pair Initialization, click on the itwin icon in the taskbar notification area and select Set Security Options followed by Set itwin Password. Once set, the password will be required to use your itwin. To delete the password, or create a new password you will have to go through itwin Pair Initialization. 3. Manual Disconnect If you lose one half of a paired itwin, unshare all the files and unplug the other half from your computer. Your files can no longer be remotely accessed through the compromised half of the device. 21

Chapter 9. Using Multiple itwins on a Computer Multiple itwins can be used on a computer simultaneously. We call this the itwin Multi feature. 1. Plug a paired device into a computer Set a name for this pair. This helps identification amongst multiple devices. We suggest using a name which identifies the person to whom one half of this device will be handed. 2. Plug a second paired device into the same computer. Set a different name for this pair. Repeat these steps as many times as required. Note: itwin Multi was a free up-grade released in Dec 2011. The limit on number of devices simultaneously plugged into a computer is 20. 22

3. Access options for the different devices via the itwin Menu. 4. Share files and folders as usual by dragging and dropping. For each device, you can share a different set of files & folders. Use the Local Files menu item to open the respective itwin Local Files View. Use the Set Security Options menu item to set security credentials, as usual. Use the Blink Red menu item to identify the particular itwin. The LED on the itwin with light up. 5. Separate one half each from the various devices and pass the halves to various parties. Each party will be able to access the files shared via her itwin device upon plugging in the respective half. 6. Use the Remote Files menu item to view the files shared at the other computer, for any itwin pair. Use the context menu (right-click within the itwin View to launch) to toggle between Local & Remote Files Views and also to switch between different itwin devices. 23

Chapter 10. Setting Read/Write Permissions This section describes how to set Read/Write permissions for shared files. A Read-Only file cannot be renamed, edited or deleted by a user from a remote computer. Making a folder Read-Only makes all files and folders inside the folder, Read-Only. A remote user cannot rename, delete, edit or create new files inside a Read-Only Folder. Right click on any file or folder within the itwin Local Files View and select Properties. To allow Read-Only access to that file or folder, click the Read-Only check box and click OK. Note: The default setting is to allow the remote user full editing rights (rename/read/write/delete). To change back from Read-Only to full editing rights, uncheck the Read-Only check box. 24

Chapter 11. Troubleshooting If you encounter problems using itwin, please do the following: 1. Check your Internet connection. 2. Unplug itwin and re-plug into your computer. 3. For more support, email helpdesk@itwin.com. 25
