Configuring the NetBackup Cloud Connector for use with StorReduce (v1.2) Introduction This document explains how to configure the NetBackup 7.7+ Cloud Connector to work with StorReduce. Prerequisites A functioning NetBackup 7.7+ installation with a Master Server, a Media Server and Cloud Connector (all of which can be running on the same server) and NetBackup 7.7+ Administration Console. A functioning StorReduce server. NOTE: For NetBackup 7.7.3 and older installations, the NetBackup device mappings file will need to be updated to version 1.131 or greater and the NetBackup CloudProvider.xml file, should be updated to version 2.1.4 or greater. This recognition of the StorReduce product in the relevant drop down menus. The device mappings file can be found on the Veritas support site at https://www.veritas.com/support/en_us/article.000025759 for UNIX and https://www.veritas.com/support/en_us/article.000025758 for Microsoft Windows. The CloudProvider.xml file instructions for its installation can be found in the Cloud Configutation package on the Veritas support site at: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_us/article.000097618. 1/19

NetBackup Configuration Step 1: Launch the Cloud Storage Configuration Wizard To configure the NetBackup Cloud Connector, first connect to the NetBackup Master Server using the NetBackup Administration Console. Select the top node in the tree in the left hand pane and click on the the Configure Cloud Storage Server in the right hand pane. 2/19

You should now be able to see the Cloud Server Configuration Wizard shown above. Click the Next button to begin configuration. 3/19

Step 2: Configure the Cloud Storage Server On the next page of the wizard select the StorReduce option and click Next. 4/19

On this page you can configure the connection to your StorReduce server. Click on the Add Cloud Storage button and the Add Cloud Storage dialog will pop up as shown below: 5/19

In the Add Cloud Storage dialog: Set the Service host field to the hostname of your StorReduce Server. Important: this value must be the same as the value of the Hostname field in the Settings tab of the StorReduce Dashboard. E.g. Leave the Server endpoint field blank. Leave the default values of 80 and 443 in the HTTP port and HTTPS port fields, unless you have changed these in the StorReduce Settings. Set the Storage server name to something memorable. Set the Endpoint access style field to Path Style. Click OK Back in the Add Storage Server page of the wizard, select the media server you wish to use. Then add the Access Key ID and Secret Access Key for the StorReduce Server. You can obtain the Access Key ID and Secret Access Key by navigating to Users tab of the StorReduce Dashboard and selecting a user who has access to the StorReduce Bucket in which you intend to store the data (we recommend using Root User if you are getting started). Then click Manage Keys and then New Key 6/19

You can copy the Access Key ID and Secret Access Key from this page into the Wizard. Back in the Cloud Server Configuration Wizard, click on the Advanced Settings button and in the Advanced Server Configuration dialog, ensure that the Use SSL checkbox is unchecked. Then click OK to close the dialog and Next to move to the next page in the wizard. 7/19

On this page, ensure that the Encrypt data using checkbox is unchecked. The StorReduce server can t deduplicate encrypted data, but it can encrypt the data before sending it to the underlying cloud object store (e.g., Amazon S3). You can configure this on the Settings page in the StorReduce Dashboard. Click Next. 8/19

The next page in the wizard will confirm the settings you have entered. Please check them before proceeding. If you are happy with the settings, click Next. The connection to the storage server will now be created. If it is successful, you will see a page like the one above. 9/19

The next page will confirm that the connection has been created. Click Next to create a disk pool. 10/19

Step 3: Creating a Disk Pool The Cloud Storage Server Configuration Wizard will close and the Disk Pool Configuration Wizard (shown above) will open in its place. In the Storage server type list select Cloud Storage (storreduce_raw) and then click Next. 11/19

On the Storage Server Selection page select the storage server you previously created and click Next. On the Volume selection page, click the Add New Volume button, a Create Bucket dialog will appear. 12/19

Enter a bucket name in the Bucket name field. This is the bucket in the StorReduce server in which your backups will be stored. Note that bucket names must be at least 3 characters and may only contain alphabetic characters, digits, hyphens and periods. A bucket name must not start or end with a hyphen or period. When you have entered the bucket name, click Add and then Create which will create the bucket in the StorReduce Server and close the dialog. Back in the Disk Pool Configuration Wizard select the bucket you have created by ticking the checkbox next to its name then click Next. 13/19

On the Additional Disk Pool Information page, give the disk pool a memorable name and click Next. Check that the information is correct on the Disk Pool Configuration Summary page and click Next. 14/19

The disk pool will now be created and you should see a dialog like the one above. Check the box for the option Create a storage unit using the disk pool that you have just created and click Next. If this box is greyed out, see Step 4 for manually creating a storage unit. 15/19

You will now be prompted to create a storage unit for the disk pool. Enter a meaningful name in the Storage unit name field and click Next.If there are multiple media servers in the environment, choose which media servers will be allowed to utilize this storage unit in the Media Servers selection box. The optimal value for the Maximum concurrent jobs property can be highly dependant on individual environments. StorReduce recommends beginning with a configuration of 60 80 concurrent jobs and increasing this value over time, watching for any signs of excessive load. This value could be set as high as 400 concurrent jobs or more, depending on the environment. Congratulations! The disk pool and storage unit are now ready for use. You can use the storage unit as a backup target in your policies. 16/19

Step 4 (Optional): Manually Creating a Storage Unit In some cases it may be desirable or necessary to manually create a storage unit leveraging the StorReduce disk pool. To accomplish this: In the NetBackup Administration Console, expand the Storage drop down and right click on Storage Units. Select New Storage Unit Assign a name to the new storage unit. Under the drop down box for Disk Type choose Cloud Storage (storreduce_raw) and select the appropriate disk pool to use with this storage 17/19

unit. If there are multiple media servers in the environment, choose which media servers will be allowed to utilize this storage unit in the Media Servers selection box. 18/19

Step 5: Configure a Backup Policy Configure the appropriate backup policy or policies to utilize the StorReduce storage unit. 19/19
