Create SafeAssignment 1. Open the Content Area where you need to place the assignment 2. From Assessments, click SafeAssignment 3. Complete the page using the following table as a guide and click Submit Field Name Points Possible Due Date Instructions Make the assessment available Track Number of Views Description Type a name for the SafeAssignment Type the points possible for the SafeAssignment. A column will be automatically added to the Grade Center for this Assignment The Due Date & Time will only mark the item submitted after this date as Late submission Type instructions for completing the SafeAssignment Select whether or not the SafeAssignment should be visible to Students Enable tracking to know whether student s viewed or didn t view the item Created by Marwa Basil 2 of 8

Availability Dates Drafts Urgent Checking Students Viewable Use these controls to set the date range when Students can interact with the SafeAssignment. It is possible to set only a Start date or only an End date Allows Students to validate their paper without submitting it to the institutional database. Viewing & Marking Submitted Papers 1. From Control Panel, click Courses Tools then click SafeAssign 2. Click SafeAssignment to view SafeAssignments in this course 3. From the list of assignments, click the arrow next to assignment name and select View Submissions Created by Marwa Basil 4 of 8

4. The page will display a list of the students registered in your class. You can click on the option the match your needs: Text: Select this option to view the Student s paper and any comments from the Student. File: Select this option to download the Student Submission. Matching: The percentage listed is the percentage of the paper that matches other sources. Please read the full report to determine if the matching is properly attributed SAReport: Select this option to view the full SafeAssignment report. Clear Attempt: Select this option to delete the submission from the database, for example, if the Student uploaded the wrong file Download All Submissions: Click this button to download all student s files as a zipped folder Please Note: To fill in the grades after marking the papers, you can open Grade Center and fill-in the grades into the designated column. Using DirectSubmit DirectSubmit generates SafeAssign reports on papers submitted outside of a SafeAssignment DirectSubmit is not integrated with the Grade Center DirectSubmit allows Instructors to submit papers one at a time or several at once by including them in a.zip file How to Submit Papers through DirectSubmit 1. From Control Panel, click Courses Tools then click SafeAssign 2. Click DirectSubmit to manage and submit papers to the SafeAssign Created by Marwa Basil 6 of 8

3. A list of folders and papers will appear. This list includes papers already uploaded through DirectSubmit. Blackboard recommends that files not be deleted from DirectSubmit as this will delete them from the institutional database of existing materials 4. Navigate to a folder or add a new folder where the papers will be uploaded 5. Click Submit Papers 6. Select Upload File and click Choose file to browse for the file. Individual papers as well as papers that are grouped in a.zip package are accepted. Alternatively, select Copy/Paste Document and add the document text in the field Created by Marwa Basil 7 of 8

7. Select the upload options: Submit as Draft: A SafeAssign report will be generated however the paper will not be added to the institutional database and will not be used to check other papers Skip Plagiarism Checking: Adds the papers to the institutional database without checking for content copied from other sources. This is useful if an Instructor wants to upload papers from an earlier course to ensure that current students are not reusing work 8. Click Submit when done Created by Marwa Basil 8 of 8
