Human Capital SKILLED WORKFORCE The state has a literacy rate of 82.34 per cent with a large base of skilled and industrial labour The state has a total of 2298 technical institutions with an intake capacity of 4,49,121. It also houses 781 ITI (Industrial Training institutes) with an intake capacity of 1,17,747. There are 20 universities in the State of which four are agriculture universities, one university for health science course, one university for veterinary science, one for technology and 13 other general universities. In addition to these, there are 21 deemed universities in the State. The state is home to some of the most reputed national R&D institutes, viz., the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, the National Chemical Laboratories and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research One of the well-known Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is located in Mumbai. The main aim of MIDC is to achieve balanced industrial development in the state of. MIDC - Specialised Infrastructure IT/ITES MIDC has developed 32 IT (Information Technology) parks and a Software Technology Park, which provide state of the art infrastructure to promote the growth of IT industries in the state. CHEMICAL MIDC has developed 13 chemical zones in. These chemical zones boost industrial infrastructure that support operations of chemical industries. FLORICUL TURE MIDC has developed three Floriculture Park that are world-class facilities for the production of flowers of different types and varieties. MIDC provides nursery, post-harvest infrastructure and logistics facilities. SILVER ZONE MIDC is developing a specialized Silver Zone at Hupri in Kolhapur. The zone will offer integrated infrastructure of international standard and common facilities tailor-made for the silver units. The park will be spread across 200 acres and will have a centralized facility for recycling and purifying effluents. The zone will also have amenities such as bank, school, post office etc. 13

MIDC - Specialised Infrastructure TEXTILE PARKS MIDC has developed seven exclusive Textile Parks with facilities such as R&D laboratory/institute, Trade centre, Management and Training centre, Product/Process development laboratory, etc. FOOD PARKS MIDC has developed eight specialized Food Parks with facilities as cold storage, warehousing, advanced packaging and tetra packaging & food testing laboratory. WINE PARKS MIDC has developed three Wine Parks in with top notch infrastructure. Apart from providing basic infrastructural facilities, these parks have other innovative features like wine festival ground, exhibition centre, wine therapy centre, a hotel etc. MIDC works actively towards sustainable development and has developed 18 Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETPs) in the state. Additionally, the agency is working on establishment of Hazardous Waste Sites and Green Belt Development. 14

Industry, Trade & Investment Facilitation Cell (MAITRI) LAUNCH As envisaged in the Industrial Policy 2013, the State Government of has started an Investor Facilitation Cell which marks a shift in the mind-set of the Government of being a regulator to that of a facilitator. The Investor Facilitation Cell has been officially named as the Industry, Trade and Investment Facilitation Cell (MAITRI), which was launched by Hon ble Chief Minister of. Launch of Industry, Trade and Investment Cell (MAITRI) by Hon ble Chief Minister of MAITRI was one of the six chosen best practices by The Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) for their study that aimed to throw light on the Best Practices to Improve the Business Environment across States/Union Territories `in India. 16

DMIC Dedicated Freight Corridor NCR Region Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) With the aim to develop a Global Manufacturing and Trading Hub, the Delhi Mumbai industrial Corridor (DMIC) is an ambitious project aimed at developing an Industrial Zone spanning across six states in India. A band of 150 km to 200 km has been chosen on both the sides of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) to be developed as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. In addition to new Industrial Cities, the programme envisages development of support infrastructure such as pioneer plants, assured water supply, high capacity transportation and logistics facilities as well as softer interventions like skill development programme for employment of the local populace. 20
