Moving Sage BusinessWorks to a new location This checklist includes special instructions for upgrading network and multi-user installations to Sage BusinessWorks 2018 from an earlier Sage BusinessWorks release for additional details on each of these steps, please refer to the Sage BusinessWorks 2013 installation guide included with the Sage BusinessWorks 2018 installation. Note: Database update will be required when upgrading from any version of Sage BusinessWorks to Sage BusinessWorks 2018. After the installation is complete, the Database Updater must run to update your company and system databases. The update can take from several minutes to several hours to complete for each company depending on the amount of company data. Schedule the installation and update when there is time for users to be out of the system for the entire process. Windows 10: If installing on Windows 10 a reboot will be required after installation. If the reboot is not performed you will receive the error "Unable to connect with the system manager database (specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 1114 A dynamic link library (dll) initialization routine failed Pervasive ODBC client interface, C:\program files(x86)\pervasive\bin\w3odbcci.dll)" Prior to Installation IMPORTANT: If you use software that imports to or exports from Sage BusinessWorks, contact the third party software manufacturer to verify compatibility before installing this upgrade. A software update is likely required from the software vendor. Note: The Sage BusinessWorks ACT! Link, Crystal Reports and Sage Timeslips have been tested for compatibility. Please see the Sage BusinessWorks System Requirements for information regarding specific versions supported. 1. If upgrading from a previous version of Sage BusinessWorks back up each company and the system database. If upgrading from version 2012 or earlier, for optimal results, in all companies, rebuild all modules used in Sage BusinessWorks. The rebuild option is located in each module by selecting Utilities, Rebuild. 2. On the old server, use the Sage BusinessWorks Backup utility to create backups of the System database and your company data files. IMPORTANT - Please make a backup of the System database prior to beginning the upgrade process. Failure to do so may result in a loss of custom forms, users and registration information. 3. Before beginning, verify that all other users have exited Sage BusinessWorks. a. From the Launcher menu, select File, Network Status Report. You should see only yourself listed. Close the 'Network Status Report' window. b. From the Launcher menu, select File, Backup to open the 'Database Backup Wizard'. c. In the first window of the wizard, read the information displayed and click Next. d. In the 'Select Company' window, select the company ID or the 'System' icon and click Next. In the 'Select Backup File Name' window, select the drive and folder for this backup. Change the file name if desired and click Next. e. In the 'Begin Backup' window, review the choices to be sure they are correct and click Start to begin the backup process. f. This process will need to be done for all companies including System. 4. Optional: Stop all Services that may be running relating to your antivirus software or firewall that could conflict with the Sage BusinessWorks Installation. 5. Download Sage BusinessWorks 2018 at the server: a) Visit https://support.na.sage.com/ b) Click Logon in the top right-hand corner c) Click Log on for downloads and personalized content d) Enter your Login and password (If you are not already registered select Sign Up for portal account) e) Select My Downloads on the top right-hand side of your screen f) Select Sage BusinessWorks 1 P a g e

g) Under Downloads and updates/latest products select Sage BusinessWorks 2018 h) When the article loads select Download Now a. If downloading via the Sage Download Manager (The download manager allows you to pause the installation and ensures the most complete download) (1) If you have not used the Download Manager before you may be prompted to install the Download Manager (2) Click OK after verifying the location where you would like the download file to go (3) The Download Manager will display (4) If you chose the option to run the file, you will be asked if you want to install Sage BusinessWorks (5) If not locate and double click the SageBusinessWorks.exe file to run the installation the default location for this file is in your downloads folder. (6) NOTE: If you receive the error "Cannot Start Application - Cannot continue. The application is improperly formatted. Contact the application vendor for assistance." try the steps again using the instructions for using the Direct Download link below b. If downloading Via Your Internet Browser (Direct Download Link) (1) When prompted choose to Save the file to the desired location (Sage recommends saving this to your Desktop) (2) When the download is complete locate and double click the SageBusinessWorks.exe file to run the installation. 6. On the old server access Utilities, Registration Information, Network Registration if the box next to the OK button shows NT_Server the product code needed when installing on the new server will be CS. If the box next to the OK button shows Workgroup the product code needed when installing on the new server will be WG. IMPORTANT Note: Use of the incorrect product code may cause the program to not function correctly. Please contact Customer Support if you have any concerns about your product code. Network Installation This checklist is intended for users installing in a Client Server or peer-to-peer network. If you are using a terminal server, please view the Download Center for the Terminal Server installation checklist. At the new server (Log on as network administrator.) 1. When installing a network install, create and share a SAGE folder with full Share and NTFS rights for all users using Sage BusinessWorks. This is the directory where you will install Sage BusinessWorks. NOTE: Pervasive recommends that if user permissions are overly restrictive that full control rights will need to be given to the SYSTEM user to the Sage folder. Note: Errors can occur if the share name contains spaces in the UNC path, please do not add any spaces into the folders that Sage BusinessWorks will be installed to. 2. When installing a network install, note the product code you received in the email from Client Care when you purchased the product. If moving to a new location from an existing Sage BusinessWorks installation, you can obtain your product code from your previous installation CD or by accessing Utilities, Registration Information and clicking on the Network Registration option. Please note what is listed to the left of the OK button. If the box indicates WorkGroup your product code is WG. If the box indicates NT Server your product code is CS. For further instructions on how to location your product code visit https://support.na.sage.com/selfservice/viewdocument.do?externalid=32972. IMPORTANT: Use of the incorrect product code may cause the program to not function correctly. Please contact Customer Support if you have any concerns about your product code. 3. Double click the SageBusinessWorks.exe file downloaded using instructions from the Prior to Installation section above and select Install Sage BusinessWorks 2018. 4. When prompted to select the location to extract the installation files select the location on your server where you would like the 2018 installation files to be extracted to. Note: This is not the location where your program and data files will reside, only where the installation files will be placed. By default, this location is C:\Sage BusinessWorks 2018 Install Files. 5. Click Setup when you are ready to begin the extraction of the installation files. 6. IMPORTANT Please have the primary user of Credit Card information review the information regarding the Sage BusinessWorks 2013 PA-DSS Compliance prior to selecting the link to Install Software. You must 2 P a g e

then confirm that you have read the information regarding PA_DSS Compliance by typing INSTALL and clicking OK. 7. The installation files will now extract and the Autorun screen will appear. 8. Click Install Sage BusinessWorks 9. Review the Sage End User License and Support agreement and if you accept the terms click Next > to continue. 10. Select Network Installation and enter the product code noted in step 2 and click Next > to continue. 11. Follow the wizard to install Sage BusinessWorks to the folder created in step 1, using separate directories for the program and data (for example if the SAGE folder was shared in step one the paths should display Program Files: C:\SAGE\BWProg and Data Files: C:\SAGE\BWData). We recommend you accept the default paths displayed. 12. In the Select Client Data Path screen, select the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path that the client workstations will use to access the data files and click Next >. If a message appears stating, "No writeable share exists," make sure the SAGE folder on the server is shared with full Share and NTFS rights for all Sage BusinessWorks users. 13. Confirm which Program Folder you would like the Sage BusinessWorks program icons to install to and click Next >. 14. Confirm the current settings and click Next > to begin the install. 15. When the installation is complete, click Finish. There are no further installation items that needs to be done at the server. 16. Launch Sage BusinessWorks logging in with MANAGER and no password. 17. Go to File, Restore and restore the System database made from the old server prior to the installation on the new server. This is a critical step as it includes your custom user, forms and registration information. If you cannot login as your users or if your modules are not available or greyed out it is because this database has not yet been restored. Switch back to the Sample database and go to File, Restore and restore the System database made from the old server. 18. Once the System database has been restored (if upgrading you will also have to perform the database update) log out of Sage BusinessWorks and login using your existing login credentials. Once that is complete go to File, Restore and restore all company databases. At the client (Login on as a user that has administrative rights) Run client setup one time at each workstation. If you are installing on an existing Sage BusinessWorks client that is pointing to the old server uninstall the pervious client prior to following the steps below. Note: Run only one client installation at a time and verify nobody is in Sage BusinessWorks while the installation is running. NOTE: Do not use the Sage BusinessWorks download files to install the client. 1. Uninstall the Sage BusinessWorks Client (This step is necessary so you can point the clients to the new server) a. Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features b. Select the Sage BusinessWorks Client c. Click Remove/Uninstall 2. From Windows Explorer, browse to the \\{SERVERNAME}\Sage\BWProg\Client Setup folder on the server. 3. Double click Autorun.exe. 4. Click Install Sage BusinessWorks Client. 5. Click Next > to proceed with the installation. 6. Verify the path to be used for the Pervasive install and click Next >. 7. Confirm which Program Folder you would like the Sage BusinessWorks program icons to install to and click Next >. 8. Confirm the current settings and click Next > to begin the install. 9. If prompted for an administrator user login and password, enter the Windows network administrator user ID and password (this can be obtained from your Network Administrator). This user has to be the Local administrator account to your Sage BusinessWorks server. 3 P a g e

10. Confirm that you can launch and access Sage BusinessWorks. Note: Users may receive a registration prompt when launching Sage BusinessWorks for the first time. This registration prompt is for the Sage Support website. If you have not created a login please register for the Sage Support website and change the option to Never to remind you about registering. NOTE: If there are multiple users using Sage BusinessWorks on the same workstation the Profile Setup needs to be performed for each additional Windows user that accesses Sage BusinessWorks at this workstation. To run the profile setup browse to \\{SERVERNAME}\Sage\BWProg folder on the server and select bwprofile.exe. The Profile Setup is Windows user specific, therefore each user will have to verify that their default custom form and printer settings are correct before printing. After the installation is complete 1. If upgrading from Sage BusinessWorks 2017 or earlier the database update will need to be ran. If the Database update does not automatically display see Article 39318 How do I update all my databases at one time? 2. Important: If using Sage Exchange an upgrade will need to be performed. See KB article 78022 Sage Exchange Upgrade Available for further instructions. 3. Once all databases have been updated visit the Sage Support website to download and install the most recent Service Pack. For customers visit https://support.na.sage.com to obtain the service pack. Note: The installation of the service pack can be performed at the server or any workstation that has Sage BusinessWorks installed and must be done after all registration information has been entered into the Sage BusinessWorks program under Utilities, Registration Information. To download the service pack: 1. Visit https://support.na.sage.com/ 2. Click Logon in the top right-hand corner 3. Click Log on for downloads and personalized content 4. Enter your Login and password (If you are not already registered select Sign Up for portal account) 5. Select My Downloads on the top right-hand side of your screen 6. Select Sage BusinessWorks 7. Select desired service pack To install the service pack: 1. Double click on the file downloaded from https://support.na.sage.com/ The default location it downloads to is C:\Users\[UserID]\DownloadsClick Next > when prompted 2. Accept the End User License and Support Agreement and click Next > 3. Verify Entitlement information and click Next > 4. Review install settings and click Next > 5. The installation will now begin. When the installation is complete click Finish If you encounter any other errors during the installation process, please note the error and the point at which it occurred. For answers to many of your questions, please check the Knowledgebase: 1. Visit the Sage Support website login page at https://support.na.sage.com 2. Once at this site select Sage BusinessWorks as your product (there is no need to select the specific version number when searching the Knowledgebase) by clicking Select Product and enter the KB article number or search for the desired information. Common issues: The client installation path is showing the location of the old server o Uninstall the Sage BusinessWorks client in Add/Remove Programs o Delete the BWUser.ini file located in C:\Documents and Settings\{WINDOWS USER ID}\Application Data\Sage\Sage BusinessWorks (For Windows 7 this would be located in C:\Users\\{WINDOWS USER ID}\AppData\Roaming\Sage\Sage BusinessWorks) o Reinstall the client following the steps under At the Client 4 P a g e
