iwebfolio 5: Setting Up Permissions-Public Settings To set up permission to place your portfolio on a website: 1) Log in to your account using iwebfolio s website at: www.iwebfolio.com 2) Next you will see the Home tab or landing page. To edit a previously created portfolio and to set up public permission to put the portfolio on a website, click on the Portfolios tab and then click on the Portfolio Name for the one that you want to edit. 1
You will then see a screen that contains a toolbar like the one shown in the following image: 3) Click on the third icon from the left in the toolbar to set up permissions so that people can view your portfolio, (See the red arrow above. It s the icon that looks like a key). This will open up an accordion menu on the right side of the page. (See the red arrow to the right below). 2
You can see that there are several choices on the page to be able to set up permissions. At the very top, it says, Drag and drop reviewers here to add to current permissions. Underneath that, you will see the number of Current Permissions. In this example, there are zero. You can share your portfolio with your instructors under the area Institution Reviewers. Or if you want to share your portfolio with someone outside of WMU, you can give permission to Custom Reviewers or you can choose Public Settings to share your portfolio on a public website. To learn how to set up the other types of permissions, please view the instructional documents on those topics. To share a portfolio using public settings: 1) Click on the Public Settings area in the accordion list. You will see two choices: Include this portfolio and a URL with a check box next to it and Enable Direct URL to portfolio with another check box and URL. If you choose the first option, the portfolio you are working with will be displayed on the public website that is assigned to your owner account. This URL is your public portfolio website and any portfolio you create can be shared there by clicking on this check box in each portfolio. If there is only one portfolio that has been checked to show up on this website, that portfolio will open up when someone views that website. If there are several portfolios that have been shared this way, there will be a list of portfolios for viewers to click on when going to this URL and they can open any of them. The second option to Enable Direct URL to portfolio will allow you to share this specific portfolio on a public website but only this one portfolio. Notice that the URL is different for each option. Potentially, you could go into each portfolio that you create and click on this second option and have multiple URLs to be able to share with whomever you choose to share them with. 3
First let s choose option one to share the portfolio on the public website that would display any portfolio in my account I choose to share on this URL: When we click on the URL in the accordion list (see the URL next to the black arrow), it will take us to that website and since this is the only public portfolio that this user has made public, the portfolio opens up on to the screen. (See the screen shot below) Notice the green icon that is now showing next to the Current Permissions area. (See the red arrow above.) This is the symbol to show the user that the portfolio is on a public website. 4
The URL that we clicked on can be seen in the above screen shot surrounded by a green oval. We can also choose to share the portfolio on its own unique website by clicking on the Enable Direct URL to portfolio check box. To delete these permissions: 1) If you change your mind or you made an error in sharing your portfolio using the public settings, simply uncheck the check box and then the portfolio will no longer be on a public URL. 5
NOTE: The green icon that was showing previously under the Current Permissions area denoting the portfolio was being shared on a public website is now gone. To learn how to share your portfolio in other ways, please view the instructional documents called Setting Up Permissions-Custom Reviewers and Setting Up Permissions-Institution Reviewers.
