Intrductin Prduct Overview The multiprt Flppy Drive is designed t prvide flppy drive supprt t the RTD line f cpumdules. Selected cpumdules are capable f prviding the flppy drive signals n the parallel prt cnnectr, r multiprt. This flppy drive then attaches t the multiprt. There is n sftware r BIOS emulatin, s the flppy drive appears t the perating system as a standard flppy drive. GND GND +5V Drive Pwer Out (Bttm Side) JP2: Pullup Optins CN15: Flppy Signal (Bttm Side) Jumpers The fllwing sectins describe the jumper cnfiguratin ptins available n the multiprt Flppy Drive. JP2 Pullup Optins Jumper (Default = 3-4) Several f the flppy drive signals require pullup resistr in rder t perate prperly. These pullup resistrs are prvided n the multiprt Flppy Drive bard. They can be pwered either frm the flppy drive pwer cnnectr, r frm the pwer signal n the multiprt. The default cnfiguratin shuld be used fr all applicatins. External I/O Cnnectins The fllwing sectins describe the external I/O cnnectins f the multiprt Flppy Drive. Drive Pwer In This cnnects t a standard flppy drive pwer cnnectr. It supplies pwer t the drive, and can als supply pwer t the n-bard pull-up resistrs. The pin assignments fr the pwer cnnectr are: Nte: Pin 1 can be identified by a square slder pad. Pin Signal Wire Clr 1 +5V Red 2 GND Black 3 GND Black 4 12V(n.c.) Yellw multiprt Cnnectrs Tw cnnectrs are prvided fr the multiprt t accmmdate the full line f cpumdules. One cnnectr has 0.1 pin spacing and the ther has 2mm pin spacing. Only ne cnnectr shuld be used at a time. The pin assignments are the same fr bth, and are as fllws: Nte: Pin 1 can be identified by a square slder pad. Pins 2 10 have rund slder pads. Drive Pwer Out This cnnectr mates t the pwer cnnectr n the flppy drive. It is a direct cnnectin t the Drive Pwer In cnnectr. Flppy Signals Cnnectr This is a standard 34-pin flppy drive cnnectr. It mates with the signal cnnectr f the flppy drive. All f the signals fr this cnnectr are prvided by the multiprt cnnectr. Page 9 f 11
Bard Installatin Installing the Hardware The multiprt Flppy Drive can be attached t any RTD cpumdule that supprts flppy thrugh the multiprt. It can be attached either directly t the cpumdule, r t the multiprt cnnectr n an IDAN frame. Static Precautins Keep yur drive in its antistatic bag until yu are ready t install it int yur system! When remving it frm the bag, hld the drive at the edges and d nt tuch the cmpnents r cnnectrs. Handle the bard in an antistatic envirnment and use a grunded wrkbench fr testing and handling f yur hardware. Steps fr Installing 1. Shut dwn the PC/104 system and unplug the pwer crd. 2. Grund yurself with an anti-static strap. 3. Set the jumpers as described in the previus chapter. 4. Attach the apprpriate cable between the drive and the cpumdule. 5. Bt the system and setup the BIOS as described in the manual fr the cpumdule. 6. Verify that all f the hardware is wrking prperly. BIOS Cnfiguratin After physically installing the drive, the cpumdule BIOS must be cnfigured t use it. The settings that need t be changed depend n the cpumdule used. Check the multiprt: Flppy Cntrller Mde sectin f the cpumdule manual fr the apprpriate setting fr yur cpumdule. Page 10 f 11
