Speech Processing Solutions GmbH Release Announcement HIGHLIGHTS PUSH-TO-TALK SUPPORT FOR SPEECHMIKE PREMIUM IN KEYBOARD MODE SpeechControl 3.5 enables users to individually configure keyboard shortcuts to the SpeechMike Premium for third-party applications like Dragon Medical. As a benefit users can control third-party applications without the need to install and run SpeechControl or any SpeechMike drivers in the background. This frees up systems resources and speeds up Dragon NaturallySpeaking, making the whole system reacting more agile. Following the requests of our customers we have now also implement the so-called push-to-talk mode enabling users to intuitively control the SpeechMike Premium microphone just by pressing the SpeechMike record button. UPDATED SPEECHCONTROL WORKBOOK AND ADMINISTRATOR GUIDES The SpeechControl workbook and the Administration guides for the application control and for the keyboard mode have been updated to describe the new features of SpeechControl 3.5. All guides can be found in the user manuals folder on the SpeechControl CD. SPEECHMIKE 2 DEVICES ARE MARKED AS DEPRECATED In the SpeechControl online help are marked as deprecated. This means that we have stopped any maintenance activities for SpeechMike 2 devices in SpeechControl. We will not provide any fixes in case of problems more any updates for new operating systems. Since SpeechMike 2 devices are end of service since begin 2013 we will also not provide any support in case of problems. Page: 3 of 6
Release Announcement Speech Processing Solutions GmbH SPEECHMIKE PREMIUM KEYBOARD MODE NOTES AND RECOMMENDATIONS By default all SpeechMike Premium devices as well as the SpeechControl software are delivered in SpeechMike event mode for backwards compatibility reasons. The SpeechMike Premium can be easily switched to keyboard mode with a shortcut on the device. Dragon only provides a limited set of keyboard shortcuts to control the application. If more Dragon speech recognition features are required we recommend utilizing SpeechControl with Application control in the background. To make use of the full SpeechMike functionality we recommend the full integration of the SpeechMike into 3 rd party applications with the SpeechMike SDK. The keyboard mode and the device configuration Export/Import option is only available for SpeechMike Premium products with FW version 2.50 and later. SpeechMike 3200/3300 series (SpeechMike3) devices do not support these functions. Firmware upgrades on SpeechMike 3 can be done, but it will not have any effect with regards to the keyboard mode. Customers can upgrade their SpeechMike Premium firmware with SpeechControl s automatic firmware upgrade option since SpeechControl 3.3. KEYBOARD MODE LIMITATIONS For reliability reasons it is only possible to utilize SpeechMike microphone ON/OFF events with the slider of the SpeechMike Premium 3510/3520/3610. Other keyboard shortcuts cannot be executed with the slider. In keyboard mode SpeechMike Premium Barcode devices 3600/3610 do not support the barcode event mode. Barcodes will be transferred as keystrokes. Virtual environments like Citrix, VMware or Windows terminal services have not been tested with a SpeechMike Premium in keyboard mode. SpeechExec cannot be controlled with a SpeechMike Premium in keyboard mode. REPEALED KEYBOARD MODE LIMITATIONS WITH SPEECHMIKE PREMIUM FIRMWARE 2.53 Since the SpeechControl software and SpeechMike Premium firmware are closely related some of the SpeechMike Premium firmware improvements have an influence on the software functionality which are mentioned here for your reference. With firmware 2.53 some of the limitations of firmware 2.50 are obsolete: Since FW 2.53 SpeechMike Premium does support the push-to-talk microphone control option. From FW 2.53 onwards the SpeechMike Premium microphone mute motion control function is supported in keyboard mode as well. The Dragon Check microphone wizard can be run since FW 2.53 in keyboard mode as well. Note: be aware that the microphone has to be switched ON when running the Check microphone wizard. Page: 4 of 6
Speech Processing Solutions GmbH Release Announcement IT REQUIREMENTS PC requirements Pentium IV with 1GHz 1 GB RAM 250 MB for Microsoft.NET Framework 50 MB for application Powered USB port (for USB device) Software requirements Microsoft Windows 7/8/8.1 For all listed operating systems, it is recommended that the latest service pack available is applied before installing SpeechControl. WINDOWS 10 INFORMATION Microsoft has released the final version of Windows 10 on July 29th 2015. Quick tests with the released versions of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit or Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit - clean installation and SpeechControl 3.5 - clean installation did not show any severe issues. Please note This is not an official statement that SpeechControl 3.5 runs in Windows 10 environments! To provide a complete support of SpeechControl 3.5 in Windows 10 environments we would need to run long lasting, intensive tests which were not done so far. Windows 10 will be fully supported from the next released SpeechControl version onwards only. DRAGON NATURALLYSPEAKING Note: In case you are using speech recognition please check if the used Dragon version is compatible with Windows 10! More information on Dragon and Windows 10 compatibility can be found on the Nuance website. AVAILABILITY SpeechControl 3.5 build 350 can be downloaded from the Speech Processing website from 8 th September 2015 onwards. Product by-packs will start from mid- September2015 onwards. The product mix is depending on available stocks and the production plan. LOGISTIC INFORMATION The hardware packages will be equipped with a master carton sticker showing and the new software version 3.5 build 350.
