NZQF NQ Ref 0761 Version 4 Page 2 of 7 National Diploma in Infrastructure Asset Management (Level 6) Level 6 Credits 154 Purpose This national diploma recognises the knowledge and skills of a competent infrastructure asset manager at a tactical level and may lead to the National Diploma in Civil Engineering - Asset Management (Strategic) (Level 7) [Ref: 0762]. This diploma is regarded by the National Asset Management Steering Group (NAMS) as a benchmark for professional recognition. NAMS is the organisation that has been established by the industry in New Zealand with the role of leading, defining, and assisting to implement best practice for sustainable asset management. People completing this diploma are able, for infrastructure asset management, to: understand and apply relevant regulatory process and accountability requirements; demonstrate knowledge and skills in developing levels of service, information management, financial analysis, demand management analysis, risk management, and optimised decision-making; develop, implement, and review an asset management plan; work professionally and apply professional body rules and ethics; develop strategies for positive work relationships; develop, implement, and evaluate work team plans; form and manage contracts; and write analytical reports. The elective section provides for the demonstration of: group or team leadership towards an objective or objectives; knowledge of group process; introductory knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand legal system; or manage tendering for an infrastructure asset. Special Notes Definitions Infrastructure asset management is the combination of management, financial, economic, engineering, and other practices applied to infrastructure assets with the objective of providing the required levels of service in the most cost-effective and sustainable manner. Infrastructure assets typically refer, but are not limited, to asset groups such as roads and bridges, airports, railways, ports, parks and recreation facilities, water supply systems, stormwater systems, wastewater systems, flood and land drainage systems, solid waste management, telecommunications, energy, and infrastructure buildings and facilities.

Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Changes to structure and content Compulsory standard 23593 was replaced by 26155 in the compulsory section and 26156 in the elective selection. The credit value of the compulsory section was decreased from 101 to 99. The credit value of the elective section was increased from 8 to 10. For detailed information see Review Summaries on the NZQA website. People currently working towards version 2 of this qualification may either complete the requirements of that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards. Changes to structure and content included: the title and the NQF classification were changed; total credits were increased from 146 to 151; the purpose statement was updated; definitions of key terms added to special notes; standards 7458, 7462, 8493, 8496, 9738, 11633, 17296, 17303, 17304, 17306, and 17307 were removed; an elective section was added; and standards 1987, 9685, 15190, 23589, 23590, 23591, 23592, and 23593 were added to the compulsory section. An appendix was added outlining a recommended learning pathway within the diploma.
