Tripod System With fluid Head USER S GUIDE

ATTENTION To ensure the best performance of your EVO PRO Fluid Head, each time you set it up, dial back the Pan and Tilt Drag knobs to their lowest resistance level and move the fluid head briskly left, right, up and down a few times so that the internal damping fluid is warmed up. Once this is done, you should be able to adjust your EVO PRO Fluid Head to the resistance you desire.

About the EVO PRO Tripod System with Fluid Head We thank you for your purchase of the Digital Juice EVO PRO Tripod System. We expect you to have a great experience working with this product. However, to ensure the best possible results, please review this user s guide for important information about its use and its key features. It offers exceptional versatility for today s demanding videographer who uses pro-level camera gear and requires the best performance and quality possible at a reasonable price. The included EVO PRO Fluid Head features a 100mm bowl, a large quick-release plate, a continuously variable fluid damping system on both pan and tilt movements, a patented variable counterbalance, and boasts a load capacity of up to 22 pounds, allowing the unit to be used with just about any existing ENG, DV or DSLR camera. The EVO PRO Tripod is a lightweight carbon fiber two-stage tripod that combines stability and strength with affordability and portability. Reaching a maximum height of 61.5, it is capable of supporting up to 80 lbs. Its spiked feet can be covered with rubber overshoes (attached to the included ground-level telescopic spreader), allowing setups on both smooth floors and uneven surfaces, while keeping the legs exactly where you need them. A mid-level security chain ensures further stability when using the spikes without the spreader on uneven surfaces such as grass or gravel. The EVO PRO Tripod System also includes an attractive, lightweight deluxe carry bag so you can take it wherever you need to shoot. 19 21 22 23 24 EVO PRO Key Features 20 Variable counterbalance adjustment to accomodate different weights of equipment (19) Variable 360 degree pan (20) and 180 degree tilt damping (21) plus pan and tilt lock levers means consistent drag for fast or slow panning and full +/-90 degrees of smooth tilt movement, plus each axis on the head can be locked at any selected position. Button-activated illuminated leveling bubble (22) allows for fluid head level adjustment in locations with low lighting Large indexed quick-release plate with ¼ -20 and 3/8-16 mounting screws allows for better compatibility and support of a wide range of cameras (23) The interchangeable pan bar rosettes allow you to place the pan bar handle on either side of the fluid head or to add an optional second pan handle for dual control if desired. The telescoping pan bar handle can easily be extended in length. Industry-standard 100mm bowl sizing (24) provides compatibility with your existing gear A 2-stage tripod design allows you to easily adjust the operating height from around 20 to over 60 (25) and allows for easy setup and better portability. Carbon fiber pipes make the tripod lightweight and corrosion-resistant. Adjustable ground-level spreader keeps tripod legs steady at any height. Rubber feet keep the tripod from slipping on smooth surfaces. Steel spiked ends on the legs (26) can be used to anchor the tripod on uneven ground. A mid-level stability chain keeps the legs in place when the ground-level spreader cannot be used. Custom designed Deluxe Carry Case stores and transports the full EVO PRO Tripod System in a compact, easy to carry bag (27). 26 25 27 4

Setting up the tripod for use on smooth even surfaces 1. Remove the EVO PRO tripod from its case and make sure the ground spreader (28) with its rubber shoes is attached. 2. If spreader is not attached, place each spiked tripod foot into the appropriate socket at the rubber foot end of each arm of the spreader (29), pulling the rubber sturrup up and over the spiked foot shoulder to lock into place (30). 29 30 Setup & Use of the EVO PRO Tripod System 28 3. To adjust the tripod to the desired height, simply twist first the upper and then the lower lock knobs and extend the legs, then twist the knobs back into the locked position when the legs are at desired length (31). Make sure each lock is secured completely to prevent the legs from slipping under the weight of the camera. 4. The ground spreader is adjustable to increase or decrease the sprawl of the tripod s legs. To spread the tripod legs apart, twist the adjustment knobs on each telescoping arm of the spreader to loosen them, then adjust spreader arms at desired spread. Lock the spreader arm position back down by twisting adjustment knobs once more (32). 31 32 5

Setup & Use of the EVO PRO Tripod System (continued) NOTE: Exercise caution if you choose to remove the spreader in order to avoid damage to your equipment. Make sure that spiked feet are well anchored in your uneven surface, security chain is attached and leg lock knobs are completely locked down before placing the fluid head and any camera gear onto the tripod. Setting up the tripod for use on uneven surfaces To place the tripod on uneven ground, you will usually want to use the dual-spiked feet to grip a surface such as grass, ground or plush carpet. 1. You will first need to remove the ground spreader entirely by pulling off the rubber stirrups at the bottom of each tripod leg to reveal the tripod s dual-spiked feet under the rubber shoes of the spreader (33). 2. Next, we recommend attaching the provided mid-level security chain (34) to provide a mechanical stop so that legs will not completely spread apart under load. 33 34 35 Attaching the EVO PRO fluid head to tripod 1. Remove the ergonomic triangular knob from the base of the EVO PRO Fluid Head and place the fluid head into the tripod bowl (35). Secure it to the tripod by loosely tightening the knob. 2. Check the leveling bubble at the base of the fluid head to make sure the fluid head is level before tightening the knob completely. 3. If necessary, you can press the bubble level illumination button (36) to view the bubble level when setting up in poor light conditions. The light will turn off by itself after approximately 15 seconds. 36 6

4. Pan bar handle mounting rosettes are located on both the left and right sides at the rear of the fluid head. If not already attached, secure the pan bar handle to either side s rosette handle mount. Adjust the angle of the handle by loosening the attachment lever lock (37) and resetting the handle s rosette position. When desired angle is achieved, tighten lever lock again securely. Handle length can also be adjusted by releasing the lever lock in the middle of pan bar to extend the telescoping handle to the desired length (38). Setup & Use of the EVO PRO Tripod System (continued) 37 38 Attaching your camera to the EVO PRO fluid head 1. Remove the quick-release plate from the EVO PRO by loosening the lever on the right side (39). Then, depress the silver release button on the opposite side and slide the plate backwards towards the handle and off the top of the fluid head (40). 39 40 NOTE: The quick-release plate is intentionally designed so that the plate will not slide off in the forward direction as a safety precaution. 2. Attach the quick release plate to your camera using the supplied mounting screws. Both 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 mounting screws are provided. Place the center of the plate as close as possible to the camera s center of mass. NOTE: To determine center of mass, you can balance the camera on a pencil or pen to find the point where it comes closest to balancing. 7

Setup & Use of the EVO PRO Tripod System (continued) 3. Place both pan and tilt lock levers in the locked position. To do this, rotate the pan lock lever on the front side of the head to the right (towards the right side of the head) to engage the lock (41) and rotate the tilt lock lever on the left side of the head upwards (towards the back of the head) to engage the lock (42). 41 42 NOTE: It is important that the pan bar handle and any camera accessories such as lens, focus control, viewfinder or teleprompter, are attached and in their operating position before balancing the head. Any gear attached or adjusted later can throw the head offbalance. 4. Turn both tilt drag knob and balance knob to the minimum levels. For tilt drag knob (43), this means turning the knob forward (counterclockwise) to a setting below 1 on the scale where knob will stop. For balance knob this means turning the knob to the left (counterclockwise) towards the (-) symbol, until knob will no longer turn (44). 43 44 5. Slide the quick-release plate with camera attached onto the EVO PRO fluid head from the back (it will not insert from the front). Adjust the position until the camera feels balanced on the head. 6. Holding the camera in a horizontal position with the pan bar, release the tilt lock lever. Find the correct balance by sliding the camera and plate back and forth until the camera does not cause the fluid head to tilt forwards or backwards. Lock the quick release plate s slide lock lever on the right side of the head. 8

Adjusting the counterbalance of your camera on the EVO PRO Before using either the tilt or pan drag on the fluid head, you will need to accurately counterbalance your camera in order to counteract the effects of gravity and neutralise the effect of the camera weight when tilted. When a head is correctly balanced, the camera operator will need only a minimum effort to move the camera, while the head can be set to any tilt position and maintain that position without being held there. 1. Make sure that the fluid head is level by checking the built-in bubble level and adjusting head position accordingly. 2. With tilt lock disengaged and while maintaining a firm hold on the payload, tilt the head forwards and backwards to determine if load is front or back heavy. If the camera tends to fall forward when you tilt down and fall back when you tilt up, turn the Balance knob clockwise to increase the counterbalance force. The heavier the camera and gear payload, the more you will need to adjust the counterbalance. When the camera is in proper balance, it should stay at any tilt angle. you can also finetune balance by minutely adjusting the sliding plate on top of the head. Setup & Use of the EVO PRO Tripod System (continued) Adjusting tilt drag 1. Make sure the tilt lock lever is in the unlocked position. 2. Practice with the tilt drag settings to get a feel for the range of adjustment. If you need very smooth, slow motion while tilting the camera up or down, increase the tilt drag adjustment by turning the dial clockwise towards you for a higher setting (45). To decrease drag, turn the dial counterclockwise away from you for a lower setting. 45 NOTE: If you want very heavy drag for your tilt, you may need to sandbag or weight your tripod to prevent it from shifting. The tilt lock lever should not be used for drag. It is designed only for holding the position of the fluid head. 9

Setup & Use of the EVO PRO Tripod System (continued) Adjusting pan drag 1. Make sure the pan lock lever is in the unlocked position. 2. Practice with the pan drag settings to get a feel for the range of adjustment. If you need very smooth, slow motion while panning the camera from side to side, increase the pan drag adjustment by turning the knob clockwise towards you for a higher setting (46). To decrease drag, turn the knob counterclockwise away from you for a lower setting. 46 10 Maintenance & Cleaning Replacing the battery on the illuminated bubble level If the light on the EVO PRO fluid head bubble level dims or stops working, it may mean the battery needs replacing. To replace the battery on the illuminated bubble level: 1. Locate the battery cover next to the red bubble level light button. 2. Use a coin or flat blade screwdriver to unscrew the battery cover. 3. Carefully remove the battery from its compartment. 4. Fit a replacement LR41 1.5v battery into the compartment, ensuring that the positive side (+) of the battery faces out. 5. Replace the battery cover and tighten using a coin or flat blade screwdriver. 6. Press the red bubble level light button to make sure that the bubble level lights for approximately 15 seconds before turning off automatically.

During normal operation of the EVO PRO Fluid Head, the only cleaning required is a periodic wipe down with a lint-free cloth. If any dirt accumulates on the unit, it may be removed with a semistiff brush. You should also regularly clean the EVO PRO Tripod with a clean damp rag or soft brush. Use of the EVO PRO outdoors under adverse conditions may require special care. The fluid head should be covered when not in use. Salt spray and mud should be wiped or washed off using fresh water at the earliest chance. Abrasive sand and dirt should be removed using a semi-stiff brush or a vacuum cleaner. It is especially important to keep grit and dirt away from locking levers and knobs on both the tripod and fluid head, in order to ensure they continue to turn smoothly and lock tightly. Do not use solvents, cleaners, lubricants, polishes, abrasives or wire brushes to clean the tripod or fluid head. Transport and store the EVO PRO Tripod and Fluid Head in the provided carry case whenever possible. Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Always tilt the platform to horizontal and set the tilt lock to locked position when changing the payload on top of the fluid head. Do not rely on the tilt lock alone when platform is at an angle. When mounting the fluid head onto the tripod at a narrowed stance, it is possible that the center of gravity of a tilted payload will fall outside the footprint of the tripod, leading to instability. Make sure the tripod legs are sufficiently spread and firmly locked in place, using the ground level spreader and the mid-level security chain, so that the center of gravity of the tilted payload remains within the footprint of the tripod. Do not use solvent- or oil-based cleaners, abrasives or wire brushes to clean dirt from the tripod or fluid head as these will damage protective surfaces. Mount the EVO PRO Fluid Head only to standard 100mm-bowl type tripods to avoid damage to the head and any camera gear attached to it. Never disassemble any part of the EVO PRO or attempt to service it, or warranty will become void. Store the EVO PRO in its carry bag in dry, room temperature conditions. Do not expose to sun, extreme heat (above 110F) or severe cold (below 25F) for long periods. Maintenance & Cleaning (continued) Cautions & Warnings 11

Cautions & Warnings (continued) Always ensure the fluid head s quick release plate camera mounting screw is thoroughly tightened. Do not pan the fluid head with the pan lock lever in locked position and do not tilt the fluid head with the tilt lock lever engaged. Damage caused by impact or misuse is not covered under warranty. Do not exceed the maximum specified load capacity of the fluid head or tripod. Avoid leaving the camera unattended on the fluid head, especially in areas where people could trip over the gear and get hurt. If you do need to step away momentarily, you should lock the pan and tilt levers. Do not adjust the tripod leg length, remove the ground spreader or move the tripod while camera or gear is attached to the fluid head. Always ensure that all locks are tightly engaged before mounting any gear on the tripod.
