SmartPass Quick Start Overview This document is intended for network administrators to configure the wireless network including wireless LAN controllers (WLCs) and for installing and configuring SmartPass. For more information on the latest updates on SmartPass, see the Wireless LAN Services (WLS) Software Documentation. System Requirements For Install SmartPass To install SmartPass, you must ensure the following system requirements MSS and Wireless LAN Controller Requirements on page 1 Upgrading SmartPass on page 1 SmartPass System Requirements on page 1 SmartPass Operating System Support on page 2 MSS and Wireless LAN Controller Requirements You can configure SmartPass user access on wireless LAN controllers with the same major MSS version number or lower. For example, if you are using SmartPass 7.1, you can configure the controller with MSS version 7.1 or lower. Some features may require MSS version 7.1. Upgrading SmartPass You can upgrade directly to 9.0, if you are using one of these SmartPass versions: 7.5 7.6 7.7 8.0 The Upgrade path is 7.5 7.6 7.7 8.0 9.0 SmartPass is compatible with MSS and RingMaster and provides both backward and forward compatibility. NOTE: SmartPass 9.0 is supported in RingMaster version 9.0 and above. SmartPass System Requirements SmartPass runs on Windows and Linux platform. The Table 1 on page 2 shows the system requirements. 1

Installing SmartPass on Windows This section describes how to install and activate the SmartPass application on a Windows machine. 1. Download the SmartPass software package from the Security tab from the Software Downloads page at: http://www.juniper.net/support/downloads/. 2. Click the SmartPass Version 9.0 on the Software Download page. You will be prompted to the login page. Enter the login credentials. 3. Read the End User License Agreement and click I Agree. 4. Select I accept the terms of the License Agreement. 5. Click Proceed 6. Click Save and specify the location to download the file to your computer. 7. Navigate to the location where you saved the file and double-click on install.exe file. 8. Select I accept the terms of the License Agreement. 9. Click Next. 10. Select an installation folder and click Next. The default installation folder is \Program Files\Trapeze Networks\SmartPass. 11. Click Install. 12. Select an HTTPS port and authentication port. By default, SmartPass selects port 443 as the HTTPS port and 1812 as the RADIUS authentication port. SmartPass automatically detects port conflicts and warns you if the port you selected is already in use by another application. 13. Set the SmartPass service memory allocation (Megabytes of memory). Select a value from the list. The default is 512. 14. Click Next. The message: SmartPass has been successfully installed to: \Program Files\Trapeze Networks\SmartPass. Launching SmartPass You can launch SmartPass in one of three ways: Go to Start > All Programs > Juniper Networks > SmartPass and select SmartPass. Or Double-click the SmartPass icon on your desktop Or Enter the local loopback IP address in a browser. (https://127.0.0.1) Licensing Requirements for SmartPass The SmartPass serial number is included on the box and CD case of the software packaging. Use the serial number and a valid host name to request license keys for the license types described in Table 3 on page 5: 4

SP-GA-500 SmartPass Guest Access License for additional 500 guests requires current or previous purchase of SP-GA-BASE or SP (SmartPass 7.1 and earlier) license. SP-GA-2500 SmartPass Guest Access License for additional 2500 guests requires current or previous purchase of SP-GA-BASE or SP (SmartPass 7.1 and earlier) license. Activating SmartPass Juniper Networks recommends that you request a license key through SmartPass after installation. If that is not possible, contact the Juniper Networks Customer Support. For details, see the Contacting Support page at: http://www.juniper.net/support/requesting-support.html The first time you launch SmartPass, you are directed to the SmartPass Licensing page. To start using SmartPass, you must first enter the serial number and the licensing key. The SmartPass serial number is available on the CD case of the software packaging or can be delivered by a voucher. For licensing information, see Licensing Requirements for SmartPass on page 4. In the SmartPass Licensing page, 1. Enter the Serial Number on your SmartPass Software CD. NOTE: You can find the Serial number for your SmartPass application on the CD case or through a voucher. 2. Enter the SP Base License key. 3. Click Save. SmartPass contacts the Juniper Networks licensing server to activate your license. If the attempt is successful, you see the license information appear below the license information entry form in the section titled Current Licenses. The word Yes appears next to the license key. You may enter additional upgrade licenses only after you have entered and activated the base license key. 5
SmartPass Quick Start Guide Uninstalling SmartPass To uninstall SmartPass, 1. Go to Start > Programs > Juniper Networks > Uninstall SmartPass. 2. Click Uninstall in the wizard 3. Select the components (License Information, Services Setup, Database, and Backup) that you want removed during the uninstall process and click Continue. 4. When uninstall has finished, go to Start > Control Panel > Adminstrative Tools > Services and verify that the SmartPass service is removed. NOTE: Uninstall does not remove the Serial Number and License Key from your system unless you had selected the Delete license information checkbox. If you re-install SmartPass that information appears when the application is started. You can also delete all the information, including license keys and users from SmartPass. To delete all license keys, users, and other information used by SmartPass: 1. Open Windows Exporer. 2. Go to C:\Program Files\Juniper Networks\SmartPass and delete the smartpass-db folder. This process removes all information used by SmartPass. 6
