Included in the RAM product bundle The RAM V7.5.1 media includes the following WebSphere Application Server V7 (restricted use license only with RAM) DB2 Enterprise Server Edition 9.7 (restricted use license only with RAM) Rational License Key Server 8.1.1 (This is the required minimum version) NOTE! Many customer use their own App Server, Database, LDAP etc. RAM supports WebSphere Application Server ND (WAS ND) clustering for HA environments, but WAS ND is NOT included with RAM 5

You can do a lot w/o consuming a license: See any of the non-detail pages Permission settings may require one to login to see some assets, or go to a dashboard Dashboard Search 7 Asset hover in search result
RAM license consumption You can do a lot w/o consuming a license: Search for assets Visit your dashboard See asset hover summaries On login, if a user is assigned an AU License, it will be acquired. No Floating license will be acquired. No license required, until you: Access any of the asset s detail pages, a Collaborator will be acquired. Download or Browse artifacts, a Collaborator will be acquired. Creating, or Updating an asset, a Publisher will be acquired. How long a license is held As long as a user has one or more a valid session/s with the server. By default a WAS server keeps a session alive for 30minute (if a user does not logout.) The linger time is configurable on the application server by setting the Session timeout: 8
RAM Enterprise Licensing License types Authorized User (AU) License: assigned to a specific user. Single license is used for a given user id; for any number of server connections. Floating (FL) License: Given to those not assigned to an AU License. Single license is used for a given user id; for any number of server connections. Access types Collaborator: A collaborator AU or FL provides READ access to assets RAM. search, view, comment, download Publisher: A publisher AU or FL provides a Create/Update access to assets in RAM. search, view, comment, download, submit, modify, review RAM will exchange a Collaborator to a Publisher Floating if a user attempts to upload/update an asset. Token License: a set of Token licenses will be used if FL Licenses are not available. 32 for a Collaborator FL, and 50 for Publisher FL. 9
Agenda RAM packaging FAQ 10
Q: How do I reconcile the different editions & license types? 11
Q: Why do Floating licenses cost so much more than Authorized User licenses? Floating licenses are designed to be shared by many occasional users An occasional user is one who accesses the system less than once a day If more frequent access is needed, use Authorized User license for that user The following table is a guideline of how the Floating licenses may be used: NOTE: mileage will vary multiplier could be as high as 20:1 for Publisher Floating licenses or lower than 8:1 12
Q: Isn t there a lot of administrative overhead for Authorized User licenses? Simply load your AU licenses into the license server, just like Floating Authorized User licenses in RAM are the same as Floating licenses with one difference: You will map a user to a license to authorize them This mapping can be changed at any time to accommodate permanent reassignment of users 13
Q: What can an anonymous user do? An unauthenticated user (Anonymous) can search for public assets without consuming a license To view asset details or perform other asset functions like update, review, comment or download, you must have a Publisher or Collaborator License. NOTE! browsing asset details without a login (anonymously) will consume an available floating license Anonymous access is available using the Web Client and RAM client for Eclipse 14
Q: What might a small deployment look like? RAM running on ewas Local DB2 install and file storage 0-100+ concurrent users 15
Q: What might a large deployment look like? RAM clustered on WAS ND external DB2 install and file storage High Availability environment iram uses clustering supports over 350,000 registered users 16
