See image above for the correct orientation. 3

Hardware Installation General instructions for installing the card are provided below. Since the design of computer cases and motherboards vary, refer to your computer's reference manual for further information, if needed. Static Electricity Discharge may permanently damage your system. Discharge any static electricity build up in your body by touching your computer case for a few seconds. Avoid any contact with internal parts and handle cards only by their external edges. 1. Turn OFF the power to your computer and any other connected peripheral devices. 2. Unplug the power cord from the computer. 3. Remove your computer's cover. 4. Connect the DB9 Serial cable and DB25 Parallel cable to the board's connector. Align the stripe on the cable to Pin 1 of the board's connector. See Figure 2 on page 3 for more information. 5. To install the card, carefully align the card's bus connector with the selected Mini PCI Express slot on the motherboard. Push the board firmly, but gently into the slot until it is well seated. 6. Secure the serial port and the parallel port to the system chassis. 7. Replace the computer cover and reconnect the power cord. 4

Driver Installation This section provides information on how to install the 1S1P Mini PCIe with 16950 UART drivers. Windows 7 (32-/64-bit) / Server 2008 R2 1. Right click Computer, click Manage, and click Device Manager. 2. Insert the driver CD. Note: Close the CD AutoPlay box if prompted. 3. Right click PCI Parallel Port, and click Update Driver Software. 4. Click Browse my computer for driver software. 5. Type D:\Win_7\Win7_Parallel, and click Next. 6. Click Install at the windows security window. 7. Click Close at the successfully installed window. 8. Go back to Device Manager, right click PCI Serial Port, and click Update Driver Software. 9. Click Browse my computer for driver software. 10. Type in the route for serial port: For 32-bit: Type D:\Win_7\Win7_Uart\x86. For 64-bit: Type D:\Win_7\Win7_Uart\amd64. 11. Click Next, click Install, and click Close to complete the installation. 5

Windows Vista (32-/64-bit) 1. At the Found New Hardware window, click Locate and install driver software (recommended), then click Continue. 2. Click Don't search online. 3. Click I don't have the disc. Show me other options. 4. Insert the driver CD, click Browse my computer for driver software (advanced). Note: Close the CD AutoPlay box if prompted. 5. Type in D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\Parallel, then click Next. (Change D: to match your CD/DVD-ROM drive 6. Click Install. 7. Click Close at the successfully installed window. 8. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, repeat steps 1 to 3. 9. Click Browse my computer for driver software (advanced). 10. Type in the route for serial port: For 32-bit: D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\WINDOWS_UART/x86. For 64-bit: D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\WINDOWS_UART\amd64. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive 11. Click Install and click Close at the successfully installed window to complete the installation. 6

Windows XP / Server 2003 (32-/64-bit) 1. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, select Yes, now and every time I connect a device, and click Next. 2. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click Next. 3. Insert the driver CD, check Include this location in the search, uncheck the other box. Note: Click Cancel at the CD AutoPlay box if prompted. 4. Type in D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\Parallel, click OK, and then click Next. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive 5. Click Continue Anyway, then click Finish. 6. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click Next. 7. Type in the route for serial port: For 32-bit: D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\WINDOWS_UART\x86. For 64-bit: D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\WINDOWS_UART\amd64. 8. Click Next. 9. Click Finish. 7

Server 2008 (32-/64-bit) 1. At the Found New Hardware window, click Locate and install driver software (recommended). 2. Click Don't search online. Continue to step 3 if not prompted. 3. Click I don't have the disc. Show me other options. 4. Insert the driver CD, click Browse my computer for driver software (advanced). 5. Type in D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\Parallel, then click Next. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive 6. Click Install at the windows security window. 7. Click Close at the successfully installed window. 8. At the Found New Hardware-PCI Serial Port window, repeat steps 1 to 3. 9. Click Browse my computer for driver software (advanced). 10. Type in the route for serial port: For 32-bit: D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\WINDOWS\UART\x86. For 64-bit: D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\WINDOWS\UART\amd64. 11. Click Next. 12. Click Close. 8

Windows 2000 1. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, click Next. 2. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended), and click Next. 3. Check Specify a location, uncheck the other boxes, then click Next. 4. Insert the driver CD, type in D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\Parallel, then click OK. 5. Click Next and then click Finish. 6. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, click Next. 7. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended), and click Next. 8. Check Specify a location, uncheck the other boxes, then click Next. 9. Type in the route for serial port. For 32-bit: D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\WINDOWS\UART\x86. For 64-bit: D:\Win_2000_XP_Vista\WINDOWS\UART\amd64. 10. Click Next and click Finish. 11. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, repeat steps 6 to 10 to complete the installation. 9

To Verify Windows Installation 1. Check in Device Manager to verify successful driver installation. For Windows 7: Right click Computer, click Manage, click Device Manager. For Windows Vista: Right click Computer, click Manage, click Continue, click Device Manager. For Windows 2000 / XP / Server 2003: Right click My Computer, click Manage, click Device Manager. For Windows Server 2008/ Server 2008 R2: Right click Computer, click Manage, double click Diagnostics, click Device Manager. 2. Double click Ports (COM & LPT), PCI Express UART Port... and PCI Express ECP Parallel Port...should be displayed. 3. Double click Multi-port serial adapters, PCI Express Multiport Adapter should be displayed. Changing COM Port Number Some serial devices need a specific COM port in order to work. If your serial device works properly, do not change this setting. 1. From the Device Manager window double click Ports (COM & LPT), then double click the PCI Express UART Port serial port you want to change. 2. Click Settings tab. 3. Click the down arrow that is next to the COM Port number box, select a COM port that is not in use, then click OK. 4. Click OK, then close Device Manager to save the changes. 10
