11 ConneXium U Product data sheet Extended Managed Ethernet Switch - 8 Ports Description The ConneXium TCSESM-E family of 8 Port Extended Managed Ethernet Switch provides the capabilities of the standard Managed Switches plus additional capabilities and enhanced performance required for time critical and high availability applications. These enhancements include ring redundancy with recovery times as fast as 25 ms, message priority parameters set by port, and robust construction for Maritime applications. A typical application for Extended Managed Switch is Ethernet Remote and Distributed I/O systems that would include dual ring networks with dual switch coupling between rings. The 3 models of the ConneXium TCSESM-E Extended Managed Switch support Ethernet 10 Mbit/s and Fast Ethernet 100 Mbit/s communications. All models support copper cable connections (TX) using RJ45 Connectors. Two models include 2 (FX) Fiber Optic cable ports for applications requiring long cable distances or environments with high electrical noise. The Fiber Optic ports use SC connectors, and switch models are available with either Multi Mode or Single Mode fiber versions. A description of the capabilities and features that are available with the ConneXium Managed Ethernet Switches is provided below. Management Features Diagnostic Features Command Line Interface (CLI) - Switch configuration using commands. The interface is accessed via telnet or serial connection to a V24 serial port. Telnet Server - Used to access the switch to configure it using the CLI over an Ethernet connection. Web Management - Enables switch configuration and diagnostics using a web based interface through a standard web browser. Remote Monitoring (RMON) - An industry standard specification which supports monitoring and protocol analysis of local area networks. Used with a network management station that supports RMON probe functionality to monitor data at a switch port. Backup - Switch configuration backup to a memory backup adapter (EAM), to a server via TFTP, or to a PC. DHCP Option 82 - Allows a DHCP server that supports option 82 to assign the same IP address to any device connected to a defined switch port. Log Files - HTML file that logs up to 2000 events with time stamp. LED Indicators - For power, link/activity, fault detection and redundancy manager.
ConneXium Extended Managed Ethernet Switches Page 3 Alarm Relay - External relay contact that alarms on configured switch status, such as power source fault detection, temperature, ring redundancy, connection error detection. SNMP Traps - User can configure switch to send SNMP traps for configured switch parameters to a device with Network Management Software that support SNMP Traps. Port Mirroring - Copies data passing through one or more ports (source) to another port to allow troubleshooting with a network protocol analysis tool.. IEEE 802.1ab Topology Discovery - Enables the automatic detection of devices and network topology mapping. Redundancy Features (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) - Industry standard protocol (IEEE 802.1) enabling deployment of dual ring and mesh architectures. (Media Redundancy Protocol) - An IEC standard (IEC 62439) enabling deployment of ring architectures. HIPER-Ring (High Performance Redundancy) - A propriety protocol for ring configurations. Fast HIPER-Ring (High Performance Redundancy) - A fast responding propriety protocol for ring configurations Ring Coupling Interconnecting 2 ring that are using the, HIPER-Ring, or Fast HIPER-Ring protocols. Dual Input Power Supply - Dual connections to the switch power supply. Dual Ring Configuration - The following list of dual ring network configurations based on the redundancy protocols available in the Connexium Extended Managed Switches. Main Ring HIPER-Ring Fast HIPER-Ring HIPER-Ring Fast HIPER-Ring Sub Ring
ConneXium Extended Managed Ethernet Switches Page 4 Security Features Port Security (IP and MAC address based) Configuration setting that restricts port access to devices with defined IP address or MAC addresses. SNMP V3 - Allows SNMP password encryption Performance Optimization Message Priority - Supports 4 priority queues so that high priority data traffic is not disrupted during periods with high data traffic. Quality of Service (QoS) Selectable on a per port basis, provides different priority levels to different applications, users, or data flow, to maintain a defined level of performance. Port Priority - Data packets without priority will be transmitted according to the priority of the port. Flow Control - Limits traffic during times of high traffic and transmits a Pause frame to the end device to indicate that the device should stop sending data. Differentiated Service Code Points (DSCP) A 6-bit field in the header of IP packets to classify and prioritize traffic. Fast Aging after Disconnection - All device addresses learned by a port are removed from the switch buffer if the link goes down. Filtering Traffic Limiter - Used to limit the data rate for different types of traffic, such as Broadcast and Multicast packets a switch port can receive or transmit. Reduces the harmful effects of data storms on the network. Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN) Allows the creation of a logical subgroup of devices within a larger network in accordance with IEEE 802.1Q. Used to limit broadcasts and increase communication security. Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Snooping - Multicast management protocol that allows the switch to analyze incoming IGMP packets and create a list defining which ports belong to a multicast group. As a result, multicast messages are only sent out ports to which devices are connected that need a message increasing efficiency. Generic Attribute Registration Protocol (GARP) Multicast management protocol that allows devices to register and de-register attribute values, such as VLAN identifiers and multicast group membership across a large network.. Time Protocols Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) Switch timing is synchronized to a network master clock. Precision Time Protocol (PTP) - IEEE1588 standard for time synchronization. Similar to SNTP but more precise. EtherNet /IP Adapter Capability - The ability to function as an EtherNet/IP adapter for implicit real-time I/O messaging and explicit messaging. Enables PLC access to switch diagnostic data.
