This version runs on the following operating systems: MS Windows XP Professional SP3 MS Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard Edition with or without R2 as a workstation computer MS Windows Vista 32-bit Ultimate SP2 MS Windows Vista 32-bit Business SP2 MS Windows 7 32/64-bit Ultimate MS Windows 7 32/64-bit Professional MS Windows Server 2008 32-bit MS Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Note Non-supported operating systems The MS Windows XP Home operating system is not supported. 3.1 Scope of Delivery You have received one of the following products with this delivery: SIMATIC Version Trail V8.2 Order number: 6ES7658-1FX28-2YA5 The contents of this package include the following: 1 TIA Engineering Toolset V8.2 CD 1 license key memory stick 1 Certificate of License Contents of the TIA Toolset V8.2 CD for Version Trail Version Trail V8.2 SIMATIC Version Trail Upgrade V8.x ->V8.2 Order number: 6ES7658-1FX28-2YE5 Readme, 04/2016, A5E36515375-AA 9

Notes on Installation 3.4 Installation and removal The contents of this package include the following: 1 TIA Engineering Toolset V8.2 CD 1 license key memory stick 1 Certificate of License 3.2 Hardware Requirements To be able to work with SIMATIC Version Trail, you require a programming device or a PC which meets the following requirements: Processor with at least 600 MHz At least 256 MB RAM main memory 3.3 Software Requirements Runtime environment SIMATIC Version Trail is a 32-bit application that requires one of the operating systems listed above. SIMATIC Version Trail is add-on software. In order to operate SIMATIC Version Trail, you also need the following software on your programming device or PC: Basic software STEP 7 V5.4 SP5 or later SIMATIC Logon Service V1.4 SP2 or higher or alternatively PCS 7 Engineering V8.2 Memory requirements SIMATIC Version Trail requires approximately 5 MB of space on your hard disk. 3.4 Installation and removal Installation of VT You can install VT V8.2 over an existing installation of VT. VT can be installed only after the complete installation of STEP 7. The setup program automatically installs VT on the drive containing the STEP 7 software. Insert the TIA Toolset CD into the drive. Notes on Installation 3.4 Installation and removal VT license key Before you can work with SIMATIC Version Trail, you need to transfer the license key (usage right) from the license key memory stick to the computer. If the license key cannot be installed during setup, continue setup without installing the license key. Afterwards, restart the computer and install the license key using the Start menu command SIMATIC > License Management > Automation License Manager. The notes from the STEP 7 readme also apply to the license key. Uninstalling VT Note You have to remove software products in accordance with the MS Windows guidelines. To do this, uninstall your software package in the Windows Control Panel. For example, in Windows 7, open Programs > Programs and Features in the Control Panel and select your software package to be uninstalled. This is the only way to uninstall the software under MS Windows. Files created dynamically by Version Trail could remain when you uninstall Version Trail. This is detected by the Uninstall tool, and the message "Some elements could not be removed. You should manually remove items related to the application." is displayed. You can, but do not have to, delete these dynamically created files. Readme, 04/2016, A5E36515375-AA 11

Notes on usage 4 These notes take precedence over statements made in the manuals and online help. 4.1 New features and changes as compared to previous versions What's new in Version Trail? V8.2 Compared with the previous version V8.1, version V8.2 includes the following enhancements or changes: In V8.2, several minor bugs were fixed and improvements were made in VT. V8.1 Version V8.1 includes the following enhancements or changes compared with the previous version V8.0: Automatic archiving of projects after downloading an AS After successfully downloading an AS, archiving of the project can be automatically triggered via SIMATIC VT V8.1. The setting is made in the "Download" dialog box with the "Archive project after successful download" option. 4.2 Notes on the Use of VT by Multiple Users After a change of user with the Windows login, the archiving and readback jobs from the "Task Scheduler" dialog can no longer be executed. To be able to start the jobs under the new user as well, the new user must be entered in these jobs. The user is switched directly in the "Task Scheduler" dialog. Procedure under Windows Server 2003 and XP: Call the "Task Scheduler" dialog box, clear the checkmark for "Run only if logged on" in the relevant job, change the user, and reselect the "Run only if logged on" check box. Procedure under Windows 7, Windows Vista and Server 2008: Call the "Task Scheduler" dialog box; the user can be changed directly in the relevant job without any additional preliminary settings. Please note that the user who originally created the job will still be entered as the executing user in the log. Readme, 04/2016, A5E36515375-AA 13
