PAL Installation Instructions ADMINISTRATOR (NETWORK) INSTALLS These instructions are for PCs that are connected by a network, for the purpose of sharing PAL data and notes. PAL can be installed using any PC that is a part of the network any client or the server itself. If you have not installed PAL, or if you have uninstalled a prior version of PAL on this network, follow the instructions below. If you have installed a previous release of PAL on this network, go to page 12 and follow the update instructions. PAL PRE-INSTALLATION CHECKLIST Review all the computers in your dealership where PAL is used and verify that they meet the minimum hardware and operating system standards on page 19. Familiarize yourself with your dealership s computer network. Be certain that you are logged into your dealership s network with Administrator rights (the ability to read, write, copy, and delete files). Make sure your computer s DVD drive is clean and functioning properly. Make sure the PAL DVDs are clean and are not heavily scratched. Know your dealer code. You will be asked to enter this code after the program is installed and you launch it for the first time. If you have an interface to your business system, contact your business system vendor and verify that you have received the new interface software. If you accept the default installation location (\PwrView) verify that the folder does not have a Read Only attribute applied to it. Turn off or disable any virus-scanning programs (i.e. McAfee, Norton, etc.) prior to installing PAL. INSTALLING PAL ON A NETWORK 1. Close any open applications. Insert DVD 1 in your computer s DVD drive. The Setup program is located on this DVD. For this example we ll use the letter D as the drive letter designation for the DVD drive. 2. On the Windows desktop, click the Start button, and then click Run. In the dialog box, use the Browse button to find the location of your DVD drive and the Setup.exe file. You can also type the letter of the drive and : \Setup.exe. Then click OK. Page 1 of 19

3. The Choose Setup Language dialog box will ask you to select the language to be used during the setup program. NOTE: If the operating system language of the computer is other than English, setup will automatically launch in that language. Use the pull down menu to find the language you would like to be active, highlight it, and press OK. The setup program will begin. The InstallShield Wizard will guide you through the installation process. 4. The PAL Setup Wizard dialog box will appear. Select the Next button to continue with the installation. Page 2 of 19

5. The next window to appear is the Power- View License Agreement. Use the scroll bar on the right side of the window to read the information provided. To continue with the installation process, you must select Yes. Selecting No will exit the installation. 6. The next window asks you to select the option for installing the program. The Administrator option places all of the program files, data, and full images on the network server. The Administrator option places the data in a central location which allows features such as user notes, favorites, and annotations to be shared by all computers on the network. Click on the button for Administrator to begin the network installation process. 7. The Choose Folder dialog box will ask you to select where the program and data files will be loaded. You can choose the default folder (C:\PwrView), another listed folder, or you can type in the name of the folder where you would like the program to be stored. Click OK and the PAL Setup Wizard will install the program. For Multi-Franchise Dealers (Ag and Construction): If you use multiple versions of PAL, the data must be installed in the same directory. When the Choose Folder dialog box asks you to select where each program will be loaded, it is important to make sure the Path is the same for both installations. This sets the Global Data Path which allows the PAL program to switch between different data sets. If the Path is not the same, the PAL program will not know where the different data sets are located and will not allow you to switch between versions. Page 3 of 19

8. The InstallShield Wizard will determine if you have enough free space to perform the type of installation you selected. If the computer s hard drive does not have enough room, you will be prompted to select another option. If you answer Yes, you will be taken back to the Setup Types screen (step 6). If you answer No, the InstallShield Wizard will end the installation process. If the computer s operating system cannot accurately read the available disk space, this message will be displayed. Click No if you wish to proceed. Click Yes and you will be taken back to the Setup Types screen (step 6). 9. The Setup Status window will appear, displaying the progress of the installation. Please do not cancel the process until the installation has finished. If your version of PAL is distributed on only one DVD, go to step 12. 10. The program will prompt you to insert the next disk to be copied if there are more than one in the set. Wait until the window Setup Needs The Next Disk appears before removing the disk from the DVD drive. After you have inserted the appropriate disk, wait a few seconds to allow the DVD drive to recognize the DVD, then click OK. 11. After all the DVDs have been copied, an Information window will appear. Follow the instructions on the screen by re-inserting DVD 1 in the DVD drive and then press OK. Page 4 of 19

12. When the setup program is finished, and the PowerView Complete window appears, select the Finish button. INSTALLING THE CLIENT PC PLEASE NOTE The PAL DVDs are not used to install PAL on the Client PCs. Only one Client should be installed at a time. Launching PAL on one Client while another is being installed will interrupt the installation process and may cause PAL to function incorrectly. If the Server PC will also be used to access PAL, the steps below must be followed to install the program on the Server. The Server then becomes both a Server and Client. Client PCs must have full access rights into the DATA directory on the Server. Without these network access rights, the program will not be able to launch. If you receive the error messages that say, database files are in use by another user or database files are not accessible, the Client PC does not have the proper network access rights. 1. Use Windows Explorer or Network Neighborhood (My Network Places) to find the Network drive directory where the DVDs have been loaded on the server (\PwrView). Under the PwrView folder, find the Setup. exe file and double-click on it. Page 5 of 19

2. The Choose Setup Language dialog box will ask you to select the language that will be used to run the setup program. NOTE: If the operating system language of the computer is other than English, setup will automatically launch in that language. Use the pull down menu to find the language you would like to be active, highlight it, and press OK. The setup program will begin. The InstallShield Wizard will guide you through the installation process. 3. The PAL Setup Wizard dialog box will appear. Select the Next button to continue with the installation. 4. The next window to appear is the PowerView License Agreement. Use the scroll bar on the right side of the window to read the information provided. To continue with the installation process, you must select Yes. Selecting No will exit the installation. Page 6 of 19

INSTALLING MDAC 2.5 ADDITIONAL OPERATING SYSTEM COMPONENTS PAL was designed to function optimally in Windows XP and Windows 2000. If your computer s operating system is Windows 98, Windows NT, or Windows Millennium, additional operating system components must be installed on your system. Once the installation of the additional operating system components is complete, you will be required to reboot your computer. It is imperative that you wait until PAL is completely installed and all open applications are closed before rebooting your PC. The additional operating system components for a client install include MDAC 2.5 and Adobe Reader. If your computer's operating system language is other than English, you must install the corresponding version of MDAC prior to launching PAL. Non-English versions of MDAC are located in the ADO folder on DVD 1. Open the corresponding language folder inside the ADO folder and double-click on the MDAC_TYP.EXE file to start the installation. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Restart your computer after the installation. If your language version of MDAC is not present on DVD 1, you can download the file from the internet at http://www.powerviewsupport.com under the Windows Updates menu. If an appropriate version of MDAC is not installed on the computer, the setup program will prompt you to install as below. If MDAC is already installed and you do not see the Component update window, go to the next page to check for Adobe Reader. MDAC 2.5 The Microsoft Data Access Component program version 2.5 allows PAL to talk to data objects. At the Component Update window, select the Next button to continue the installation of MDAC. When the installation is complete, select the Next button. Page 7 of 19

INSTALLING ADOBE READER If Adobe Reader is not installed on the computer, the setup program will prompt you to install version 5.1. This program is necessary for viewing technical publications in PAL. If Adobe Reader is already installed on the computer and you do not see the Acrobat Reader Setup window, go to page 9 to complete the installation. Adobe Reader 5.1 This program is needed to view technical publications in PAL. You must select Accept on the Software License Agreement window for the installation to continue. At the Choose Destination Location window, select Next to place Reader in the default folder. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Adobe Reader installation. Once that install has completed the PAL installation will continue as seen on the next page. Page 8 of 19

5. The Choose Folder dialog box will ask you to select where the program will be loaded. You can choose the default folder (\PwrView) or you can type in the name of the folder where you would like the program to be stored. Click OK and the PAL Setup Wizard will install the program. If PAL is also being installed as a Client on the Server, the location of the Client files (used to operate PAL) must be different from the location of the Server data files (shared by all the Clients). If you do not change the folder location, a warning message will prompt you to change the location. Click OK to select another folder such as \PwrViewCL. 6. The Setup Status window will appear, displaying the progress of the installation. 7. When the setup program is finished, and the PowerView Complete window appears, select the Finish button. REMEMBER: This process must be performed on each PC that accesses PAL. Also, if your computer required the installation of the MDAC 2.5 Operating System Component, you must reboot (restart) the PC before launching PAL. Page 9 of 19

LAUNCHING PAL AFTER INSTALLATION To launch the PAL program, double-click the PAL icon on the computer s desktop. Minimum Requirements Window If the PC does not meet the minimum requirements for using PAL, a pop-up window will identify which of the PC s components should be upgraded. This window will appear each time you launch PAL. If you want to turn it off, place a checkmark in the box next to Do not show this message again. Then, select the OK button. Part List Not Pinned Window When PAL is first launched, you ll be asked if you would like to maximize the part list window. Then, each time you open a part list, it will be the full size of the PAL window. If you want to turn off this message, place a checkmark next to Do not show this message again. Then, select the OK button. Enter Your Dealer Code When PAL is launched for the first time, the program will prompt you to enter your dealer code. Click OK, and the Company Information screen will open. After you ve entered all of your dealership s information, click the Save button at the bottom of the window. If you click the Close button, your changes will not be saved. You can change this information at any time by selecting Company Information from Pick List on the program menu bar. Page 10 of 19

Configure Your Pricing and Stock When PAL is launched for the first time on each Client, you will be prompted to configure the part pricing and bin location fields as they appear in various windows within the program. Click OK and the Configure Pricing and Stock window will open. This window allows you to control what pricing and stock information is displayed in the Part Information Window and on Pick Lists. Place a checkmark next to the number of prices you want to show, then use the drop down arrows to find what prices you will display such as List, Net and Direct Ship Net. Select which price you will show as the total on a pick list by placing a check mark in the Extend field under Pick List Fields. NOTE TO NON-NORTH AMERICAN DEALERS: You will not be able to configure your pricing until you have installed the part price files. You can configure this information after you have installed the part price files. After you have entered all pricing information, click the Save button at the bottom of the window. If you click the close button, you will get the window stating, You must configure your pricing information before continuing. If you have installed an interface to a business system (inventory management system), you can use the drop-down arrows under Stock Information to show where a part is found in your dealership, the quantity you have in stock, and any order point levels you have set. If you place a checkmark next to Display On-Hand and Display Order Point, this information will be displayed in a separate column on the figure part list. This feature can be very strenuous on an older computer. If it takes time to display a figure s art and parts list, you may want to disable this feature. You can change this information at any time by selecting Configure Pricing/Stock from Options on the program menu bar. Your Installation is Complete. Now you re ready to use PAL! Page 11 of 19
