The procedure requires new firmware upgrade, removal and replacement of the cover, drive plate, and one optical drive. The following parts should be included in the upgrade kit. If any part is missing or damaged, contact Bering Customer Service at the above address. 1 8602 8631AF Upgrade Instructions (this document) 1 Drive plate with removable hard drive installed 2 Firmware cartridges 2 EPROMs, containing firmware code 1 8631AF users manual 1 Upgrade label 1 Return address label 1 Set of keys Requirements Only qualified technical personnel should perform this procedure Required Tools: #2 Phillips screwdriver Needle nose pliers Static free workbench Overview The procedure performs the following general steps to upgrade the system. Determine Controller model (check partial serial number list on page 2) Determine the base firmware level Install new firmware using appropriate cartridge or EPROMs Remove cover Remove drive plate Remove right optical drive from old drive plate Attach optical drive to the right side of new drive plate Set MO drive jumpers and switches Install new drive plate into chassis Plug SCSI cable and DC harness into drives Install cover Note: Only the first 20 MB of a previously used cartridge may be accessible in ring 0. Backup your cartridges to another system if possible. The following table shows the firmware upgrade procedure required for the base firmware installed in your OptiPac-3. Refer to the following page to determine your base firmware. Current Base Firmware Version Use This Upgrade Cartridge (or EPROMs): Controller PCBA Base Firmware Will Be C.10 C.50 Cartridge 12-05681-XX 05-11017-01 Replaced D.10 D.80 Cartridge 12-05691-XX 05-11019-21 Replaced F.10 EPROMs 05-11019-21 Replaced F.20 F.50 Cartridge 12-05691-XX 05-11019-21 Updated Page 1 of 10

Upgrade Procedure This upgrade assumes your OptiPac-3 8602 is fully operational. If you need assistance or have questions about this upgrade, contact Bering Customer service by one of the following methods. Phone: (408) 364-6500 x412 Fax: (408) 364-6501 Email: help@bering.com Upgrading the Firmware 1. Remove the OptiPac-3 from the rack mount by removing four screws from the bottom of the rack mount. 2. Flip the OptiPac-3 over and write the serial number here: The serial number is required later in the procedure. Serial Numbers with 05-11017-01 Controller Note: 3. Determine the probable PCBA installed in your OptiPac-3 by checking the serial number list in Table 1 below. If your OptiPac-3 serial number appears on the list you should have an 05-11017-01 Controller PCBA and should use the first cartridge P/N in the table 2 below. If your serial number does not appear in the list at the end of the document you probably have an 05-11019-21 Controller PCBA. The following OptiPac-3 serial numbers have been identified by Bering as having the 05-11017-01 Controller PCBA. Even if your OptiPac-3 does not appear on this list, it may contain this PCBA. If you attempt to upgrade using the wrong firmware upgrade cartridge it will indicate No Loadable Firmware Found on the front panel LCD. If this happens, go to the main menu, eject the cartridge, recycle the power and run the upgrade procedure again from step 10 on page 3 with the other cartridge. 0302A001 0302A002 0302A003 0302A004 0302A005 0302A006 0302A007 0302A008 0302A009 0302A010 0302A011 0302A012 0302A013 0302A014 0302A015 0302A016 0402A001 0402A002 0402A003 0402A004 0402A005 0402A006 0402A007 0602A001 0602A002 Table 1: OptiPac-3 serial numbers with 05-11017-01 PCBA Determining Base Firmware Version 4.
