Prove the theorem by completing parts (a) (c). Given two distinct points, PP and QQ, on the graph of yy = mmmm + bb, and let ll be the line passing through PP and QQ. You must show the following: (1) Any point on the graph of yy = mmmm + bb is on line ll, and (2) Any point on the line ll is on the graph of yy = mmmm + bb. a. Lesson Summary The graph of a linear equation is a line. A linear equation can be graphed using two-points: the mm-intercept point and the yy-intercept point. Example: Graph the equation: 2mm + 3yy = 9. Replace mm with zero, and solve for yy to determine the yy-intercept point. The yy-intercept point is at (0, 3). 2(0) + 3yy = 9 3yy = 9 yy = 3 Replace yy with zero, and solve for mm to determine the mm-intercept point. 2mm + 3(0) = 9 2mm = 9 mm = 9 2 The mm-intercept point is at ( 9 2, 0).
