When calibrating 1 inch microphones, take out the 1/2 inch adaptor, put the measuring capacitor microphones into the coupling cavity of the sound calibrator directly. It can also be used to calibrate 1/2 inch measuring capacitor microphones. At this time, the 1/2 inch adaptor shall be put into the coupling cavity of the sound calibrator first. Then put the measuring microphones into the 1/2 inch adaptor. When calibrating 1/2 inch microphones, put the 1/4 inch adaptor into 1/2 inch adaptor directly, put the measuring microphones into the coupling cavity of the sound calibrator. 4.2 Turn on/ Turn off Press key for a while and the calibrator is switched on. The display will show the model of calibrator then display as following: 5
Fig.3 Calibrating status Press key again, the calibrator is sounding and Cali. will be showed in the lower-right corner of display. Calibrator will keep sounding for 60s then stop. So as the Cali. will disappear. When the power consumption drops to above 5mA, the calibrator will enter standby status. In this status, the calibrator can be used continuously for 7 days. Press key for 3s will turn off the calibrator. 6
4.3 Backlight When in the operating interface, press the " " button, the backlight open; press again, the backlight close. 4.4 Switch the different sound pressure level AWA6223S can generate 104dB, 94dB, 84dB and 74dB at 1 khz. The default item is 94 db, press key, move the cursor to, then press or to switch the different sound pressure level. 4.5 Equivalence free field sound pressure level Normally, we use free fields microphones more often, e.g. microphones used for sound level meter and various environment noise measuring instruments. When using Model AWA6223 7
Sound Calibrator for calibration, should be correct the nominal sound pressure level to equivalence free field sound pressure level. The correct value is difference between pressure response and free field response of microphone. At the frequency 1000Hz, it is -0.4dB for 1 inch microphone and -0.2dB for 1/2 inch. i.e. to 1 inch free field response microphone and instrument using this microphone, the equivalence free field sound pressure level is 93.6dB. While to 1/2 inch free fields response microphones and instrument using this microphone, the equivalence free field sound pressure level is 93.8dB. Note: Due to different microphone structures, equivalence free field sound pressure levels of various model microphones are also different. Details will be provided by the microphone manufacturer. 4.6 Clock setting Press the " " button, move the cursor to data and time where you need to modify, click " " or " " key, after finishing set, press the " " button again, the cursor disappears, date and clock has been set up correctly. 8

The sound calibrator shall be sent to the metering department for calibration periodically (e.g. once one year) to ensure its accuracy. When calibration, if it is found that the sound pressure level is not 94dB, it can be regulated. Screw off back-lens, and adjust the internal potentiometer with small screw driver to make it produce 94dB sound pressure level. (Note: measured by pressure field response laboratory standard microphone and relevant measuring amplifier). It is unnecessary to regulate SML. Generally, the customer is not allowed to regulate due to lack of corresponding instruments. When test 84 db and 74 Db sound pressure level, make sure the external environmental noise should be less than 40dB. Appendix A: Other mode DEBUG mode In shutdown interface, press and together, the display will show DEBUG, then the calibrator is entering the DEBUG mode. The mode can adjust the internal parameters of instrument. Th is mode is mainly used by manufacturer. 17
