Azure Stack: The hybrid cloud revolution Oscar Martinez Product Director, Managed Infrastructure and Security NTT Europe
The Cloud Market
It is not Leap of faith anymore Different service providers New sets of services There are many success cases But still some services are not comfortable in the cloud 3
Resources Connectivity Applications It s the balance of these elements what makes a solution working or not 4
Speed Adaptability There is no just one option Capacity Accesibility Choosing your cloud design is key 5
Location Management Security Speed Cost The answer to these question should be the base to choose the right type of cloud 6
74% 58% 6X ENTERPRISES BELIEVE A HYBRID CLOUD WILL ENABLE BUSINESS GROWTH ENTERPRISES HAVE A HYBRID CLOUD STRATEGY, UP FROM 55 PERCENT A YEAR AGO GROWTH OF IT SPENDING ON PUBLIC CLOUD SERVICES IS 6X OF OVERALL IT MARKET 45% organizations will go through service providers Sources: 1) Avanade Global Study: Hybrid Cloud From Hype to Reality, 2) RIghtScale 2017 state of the cloud report, 3) IDC Worldwide Semiannual Public Cloud Services Spending Guide 4) tier 451 researc Hybrid cloud has been proven as the preferred approach 7
Hybrid cloud But we need to look for the right balance We should have control of our resources Resources Operation Security Cost We need scalability for our business 8
Hybrid cloud It is a big piece of the market Customers are looking for: - Cost efficiencies - Backup/DR Recovery/Business Continuity - Increased speed of deployment - Help on the transition - Unified Management - Expertise under a single cloud provider - Monitoring - Migration - Compliance management - Planning/strategy - Education/training Applications are the main blocker in many Cloud migrations because of its architecture and strategy 9
Hybrid cloud, Azure Stack 9
Azure strategy Hyper-scale Enterprise-proven Hybrid Power of Azure in your datacenter On premise cloud with Public cloud management style and software integration Azure Stack On-premises 11
Flexibility and agility Azure Stack Hybrid Cloud Legacy IT New IT Physical Servers and Virtual Machines All On-prem Public Cloud Private Cloud 12
Azure Stack Power of Azure in your datacenter End-user experiences Cloud application model Infrastructure services Platform services Cloud infrastructure Microsoft Azure Public DEVE L OPERS One Azure ecosystem Unified app development Azure services in your datacenter IT Microsoft Azure Stack Private Hosted Transform datacentre resources into cloud services Self-service IaaS and PaaS Flexible service delivery with Azure-based management and automation tools Standard Marketplace for applications 13
Azure Stack Yes, it is No, it is not An application focused Hybrid Cloud Platform Cloud equivalent of a SAN delivering selfservice IaaS, PaaS, & cloud solutions Required to maintain consistency with Azure Public Dependent on organizational and process transformation A virtualization-replacement play A DIY infrastructure sandbox A static system that you can deploy and forget A best of luck effort 14
Azure Stack Azure Stack Services. Comparison between Public Azure and Azure Stack The services in the green squares are available in the Azure Stack platform. Microsoft will add more services during the next months. Those marked as Preview in GA are just for testing purposes 15
Azure Stack The hardware. Azure Stack is a rack of servers factory mounted with a management portal, including a sub-set of the public Azure features and some backend services like monitoring or invoicing. The vendor is proactively monitoring the hardware and offering support, even coordinating with Microsoft when it is necessary. Size it is not a problem, as there are 3 sizes to choose: 4 servers (~ 140 VMs) 8 servers (~ 400 VMs) 12 servers (~ 600 VMs) NTT will provide colocation space, network connectivity, management of the Stack, Backup and Managed Services in case it is needed 16
Portal /Azure Resource Manager Azure Stack How to grow during the next months Example: Global enterprise or service provider 1 One cloud endpoint Resource management Region 1 Region 2 Region 3 2 Multiple Single regions (future) 3 Multiple scale units per region Single scale unit (future)
Use cases 18
Deploy Azure Stack for: Real-time latency requirements Connectivity issues Local data processing Use Azure for aggregate analytics and big data modelling Common application logic across both, connected, or disconnected
Develop and deploy global application in Azure Optionally deploy to Azure Stack to handle customer preferences for regulations: Government Regulated industry Data sovereignty and Security concerns Governance and GDPR No changes to application
Apply modern architectures to on-premises apps not yet ready for cloud Modernize legacy systems Serverless computing = OPEX cost model Public and private cloud live side-by-side Move to Azure without code changes Consistent programming model, skills, and processes
