Candidate Profile for the Position of Vice President, Education and Certification * * * * This profile provides information about the National Automatic Merchandising Association and the position requirements for the Vice President, Education and Certification. The profile is designed to guide the identification and evaluation of prospective candidates and to assist individuals in assessing their interest in and qualifications for the position. This profile for the position of Vice President, Education and Certification was developed from organizational materials and several interviews conducted with NAMA Staff. Information collected and outcomes from key discussions have informed the priorities for skills, knowledge, experience, qualifications, and qualities required and desired in the position. Applications will be accepted until August 7, 2015. # # # Professional Opportunity As part of the senior team driving NAMA s strategic agenda, the new Vice President, Education and Certification will build on a solid foundation of legacy education programs that serve the refreshment services industry. As the adult learning and program design expert on staff, the candidate will oversee the overall education portfolio and program mix for NAMA, in concert with staff and volunteers. Opportunities for repackaging and revitalizing current certification programs and education offerings exist, as well as the chance to make a difference by creating new learning opportunities and knowledge offerings to meet the needs of a broad industry audience. A wide range of delivery models will be considered to provide access for NAMA s Page 1 of 5

stakeholders through a variety of channels, including: online learning, university partnerships, and meetings and trade shows. The position can be located in Chicago, IL or Washington, DC. About NAMA NAMA is the national trade association for refreshment services, supporting the vending, coffee service, micro market, and foodservice management industries including on-site, commissary, catering, and mobile. Its membership is comprised of product manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, brokers, and distributors that supply products and services to operating service companies. NAMA s mission is to collectively advance and promote the refreshment services industry. Founded in 1936, the National Automatic Merchandising Association serves more than 2500 companies in the United States. With a $6 million budget and a staff of 24 headquartered in Chicago Illinois, NAMA is a dynamic, progressive and growing organization with a primary office in Virginia, and field offices in Georgia and California. Organizational Culture NAMA is currently undergoing several program changes brought about by new leadership; however, members are very supportive of these changes and of the staff overall. A culture of partnership and commitment exists between staff and member leaders, and new program ideas and services are positively received. Staff members are considered experts in their respective areas, and expected to take initiative while also respecting the experience and perspectives that other members of the team bring to the conversation. NAMA is a lean and flat organization, without a hierarchical structure of reporting relationships. Collaboration and a strong work ethic are important values that drive success. Vice President, Education and Certification NAMA s new Vice President, Education and Certification will shape strategy for all NAMA education programs, managing content and applying current best technology practices; establish standards to include industry content in NAMA s educational offerings; direct administration of current and prospective credentialing and certification programs including management of the body of knowledge and domains, oversight of test development, administration, and sales and marketing of program participation; develop, manage, and monitor budgets for the educational programs; network with affiliated state councils in an effort to keep abreast of current issues and customer needs; and serve as a member and staff liaison to the Education Committee. The Vice President reports to the Executive Vice President & COO. Challenges and Opportunities Page 2 of 5

Critical questions for the new Vice President, Education and Certification will include: How can we best anticipate and respond to emerging trends to position NAMA to meet the evolving education and information needs of industry members? How do we make the best strategic choices about an appropriate program mix staying true to current foundational programs while revitalizing content and expanding to remain relevant and profitable for the future? As competition in the field of workforce education/training increases, how can we effectively build awareness and strengthen branding for NAMA s Certificate Programs as well as other educational offerings? What partnerships need to be forged to strengthen NAMA s reputation as an education and training provider over the long term? How can we leverage emerging technologies and best practice in digital learning to better respond to industry demand and member preferences? Responsibilities With broad oversite of program development, certificate programs and the education initiatives for NAMA going forward, specific areas of responsibility include: Shape strategy for in-person and online education with clearly articulated goals, objectives and revenue targets that define and assess success. Work closely with the Education Committee and specific member interest groups to develop strategies to modernize and expand content and delivery options for the NAMA Education program line. Collaborate and manage all content development processes as well as corresponding budgets. Drive adoption of emerging technology best practices. Oversee certification programs that include the NAMA Certified Executive (NCE) designation recognizing outstanding professionals in the vending, coffee service and food service industries, the Quality Coffee Certification Program (QCCP) and Certified Coffee Specialist (CCS). Establish standards for inclusion of industry content in NAMA s educational offerings to include contract training, distance learning initiatives, and the certification programs. Research, design, and develop new educational offerings and oversee modifications to current offerings that reflect new trends, opportunities, and challenges in the educational landscape generally, and the refreshment services and coffee industries landscape specifically. A key member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President, Education and Certification reports to the Executive Vice President & COO. Page 3 of 5

Qualifications Bachelor s degree in education, professional development, hospitality, or other related area is required; advanced degree preferred. Demonstrable knowledge of distance learning and certification programs and website applications required. The Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential is highly desirable and valued. Eight to ten years of professional educational program development, preferably within the refreshment vending, coffee/tea/water, or unattended food/beverage retail industry. Significant experience in facilitating the design, management, and delivery of adult/professional educational programming, and in content development for both in-person conferences and online education is highly desirable. Skills and Abilities: The following skills are critical to the success of the Vice President, Education and Certification: 1. Demonstrated experience in direction and administration of certification and certificate programs. 2. Budget development and oversight, with background in managing the education and certification function as a profit center 3. Expertise working with affiliates and committee volunteers to translate concepts in to concrete programs and services. 4. Proven experience in creating multiple access points for learning and professional development, including Web-based educational programs, in-person offerings and selfstudy. 5. Direct experience with developing multi-faceted conference and trade show educational programming. 6. Understanding of how to move from content development and best practices to the delivery of relevant educational programs for a profession or industry, including marketing and positioning. 7. Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen effectively. 8. Competency in managing diverse stakeholder needs and expectations.
