Microsoft PowerPoint and Digital Photos This exercise will give you a basic understanding of Microsoft PowerPoint presentation software. You will create a 3-slide document by following the instructions below. Please be sure to save your work often as Practice in the appropriate folder. 1. Click START on the desktop, go to PROGRAMS, and click Microsoft PowerPoint. 2. When the program appears on your screen it will display a blank presentation. 3. You may choose to open a presentation that you have previously worked on by clicking on the name of it if it is shown or choose More... 4. You may choose to start another new presentation by clicking on that option on the side. 5. The layout of the first slide is already determined for you and it is called the Title Slide. 6. Single click in the Click to Add Title box. Type in the name of your presentation. 7. Single click in the Click to Add Text box. Type By and Your Name. 8. Click on Insert from the pull-down menus and highlight Picture and click on Clip Art. - 1 -

9. The Clip Art window opens on the right side of your screen. 10. From here you may Search for a special clip art either from your computer or from Microsoft Online. 11. If you were to type in Animals in the Search for box and then click on Go. 12. The window will show the images that are found. 13. Click on the image of the Rabbit and it will show up on your presentation slide. 14. Using the re-size handles around your image change the size of your image and place it similar to the example. 15. Click on Slide Show from the pull-down menus and select Slide Transition and a box similar to the one on the right will be displayed on the right side of your screen. 16. Using the scroll bar arrow select a transition of your choice. Select slow speed and make sure advance is done by mouse click is selected. 17. You may then choose to apply the transition to all the slides. 18. To create a second slide, click on New Slide. - 2 -

19. In the Slide Layout dialogue box, select the second layout in the first row. 20. In the Click to Add Title box, type the following: This is just the beginning! There is so much more to PowerPoint play around a bit and have fun! 21. Click on Insert from the pull-down menus and highlight Picture and click on From File. 22. Change the Look In folder to a folder on your computer and select a picture. Place this picture on the slide in the bottom left corner. 23. Following steps 8 to 15 insert another picture and place it in the bottom right of the slide. 24. Set up the slide transition as you did in 15 to 17. 18. To create a third slide, click on New Slide. 19. In the New Slide dialogue box, select a layout under Text and Content Layouts. (You will need to scroll down to see this.) - 3 -

25. In the Click to Add Title box, type: This Presentation was created by Your Name 26. Click on the icon in the box that will insert a picture 27. In the Click to add text box insert a list of bulleted items. 28. Set up the slide transition as you did previously. Rainbows Stars Moon Sun 29. Click on Format from the pull-down menus and highlight Background. Click on the scroll down arrow beside the white bar and select More Colors. Select Yellow and click on OK. 30. At the next window, select Apply to All. NOTE: If you choose a dark color for your slides you may want to change the color of your text so that it is more visible. 31. To run your slide show, click on Slide Show from the pull-down menus. Click View Show and advance to each slide by clicking your mouse once. 32. Save your presentation as Practice in your folder. - 4 -

You have now made a basic presentation. However, if you wish to enhance your presentation further I have included instructions to add sound, animation and hyperlinks. 1. Create a slide and you may use any slide layout of your choice. I have chosen to use the second one in the first column under Content Layouts. 2. I have typed in the title of the slide and inserted a piece of clipart. Sound 3. Right Click once on the piece of clipart so that it is selected and a shortcut menu appears. 4. Click on the Custom Animation. 5. Before going further you must decide if you wish to have the sound begin when you click the mouse or when you move your mouse over the picture or automatically. 6. Click the down arrow to the right of Add Effect. 7. Choose how you would like your picture to act, do you want it to fly onto the screen, if so choose Entrance and then click on Fly In. 10. From the sound option choose the sound that you would like Drumroll then click on OK. 8. Down a little further in that same Custom Animation window click on the down arrow to the far right of the mouse symbol. 9. Click on Effect Options and a new window should open on your screen. - 5 -

Animation 11. Animations can be added in much the same way that Sound is added by using the same menu. I am just going to take a few minutes to show you more options. 12. Select a piece of text to animate. 13. Click on the Slide Show menu and slide down to Animation Schemes and then click. Notice that the right hand side of your machine has once again turned into an option pane. 14. From this option pane you may chose a variety of different animations. Pick one to see how it will look, you can always choose another. When you have completed the task you may wish to apply this animation to every slide so be sure to click on Apply to All Slides. Hyperlink 15. Now to create a hyperlink you must first decide are you going to link to a piece of text or to a picture? In our case I have typed in School District 18 and then selected it. 16. Next go up to the menu bar and click on Insert and scroll right to the bottom and click on Hyperlink. 17. If you are linking to a website that you have recently viewed you can click on Browsed Pages and a list of web pages will be displayed. 18. Click on the website that applies to your hyperlink and then click OK. 19. From this window you also have the choice to choose a document that you might want to link to other than a website. - 6 -
