Working in Outline View -The slides we have made so far were created in Slide View -Now, let s create new slides in Outline View by clicking on the Outline tab in the upper-left portion of the screen - Outline View provides a fast way to create slides -Click the New Slide button to generate slide 3 in the outline -Type the title to slide 3 Residence Halls and press the Enter key When you press Enter in Outline View, you move down to the next line but remain at the same outline level in which you were working. You can click on any of the thumbnails to move to that slide within slide view -To move from one slide to another within Slide View, use the Up & Down arrows located on the right side of the PowerPoint screen. The Up arrow moves you to previous slides in a presentation and the Down arrow moves you ahead in a presentation -By clicking and holding on the Elevator box between the two arrows, you can move it up and down to skip over slides in a presentation. The number of the slide will appear just to the left of the elevator box. When you release the mouse button, PowerPoint will go to the slide that the elevator stopped on. Elevator Next Slide Previous Slide 6

Working in Slide Sorter View - Slide Sorter View makes it easy for you to rearrange the order in which your slides appear in a presentation -Click the Slide Sorter View button located at the bottom-left of the screen -All of the slides will appear as thumbnail miniatures on the screen as shown below -If you would would like to enlarge the thumbnails to make them more readable, click on the Zoom control located near the upper-right corner of the screen and choose a larger zoom percentage such as 75% -Click and hold slide #4 entitled Student Life Programs and Departments -While still holding, drag the slide to the right of slide #1 -Release the mouse -The slide Student Life Programs and Departments should now be slide #2 -Your screen should look like the one shown below 7

Working with Notes Page View - Notes Page View allows you to write speaker notes about a particular slide(s) to refer to when giving a PowerPoint presentation. -You can print notes pages and refer to them during your presentation or use them as audience handouts -Your audience will not see your notes pages projected on screen when giving a slide show presentation in PowerPoint -While still in Slide Sorter View click on the first slide Welcome to King s -Next, choose Notes Page from the View menu -Your screen should now look like the one shown below -Notice that you can see the actual slide you created at the top of the Notes page and there is a blank text area underneath the slide to type in your notes -Simply click the cursor in the text area and type this note to yourself: Remember to inform the audience where Wilkes-Barre is located in Pennsylvania Type your notes here 8

Formatting Text on Slides -PowerPoint offers many of the same text formatting options as Word -It is important that if you want to change any text on-screen, you must first select it by clicking and dragging the cursor over the text you want to change -The illustration below explains the functions of the buttons located on the Text Formatting toolbar. Your previous design choice will be overwritten by your new design choice -That design will now be the background of all the slides you created thus far in this presentation (You can over-write your background design at any time by following the steps above) (Earlier versions of PowerPoint referred to Designs as Templates 10

Animation Schemes -The easiest way to add animations, is to use a preset, or readymade, animation scheme. A scheme is a polished sequence of effects that you can apply to several slides or your whole show with just a couple of mouse clicks. It's a big time-saver and makes for quick results. A scheme also gives you consistency because the same effects are used on every slide. -Choose Animation Schemes from the Slide Show menu -The Animation Schemes pane will appear -Click on the name of an animation scheme to apply it to the active slide -Click the Apply to All Slides button at the bottom of the animation schemes pane to apply to every slide in the presentation -To see a preview of the scheme click the Play button 13

Custom Animation - You can have even more control over the way your animations occur on-screen - Choose Custom Animation from the Slide Show pull-down menu. -The Custom Animation pane appears -Click on the bullet text field on the active slide and click the Add Effect button -Next, click on the Entrance option and choose Fly In -Notice that you can specify how the animation starts, the direction it will take and how fast it will move on the screen -If you have many different objects to animate on any given slide, you can choose the order that they appear on-screen -You can preview the animation by pressing the Play button 14

Slide Transitions -In PowerPoint you can control the way slides will arrive on-screen -To add transitions to your presentation, choose Slide Transition from the Slide Show pull-down menu -Click on the name of a transition to preview what it will look like and apply it to the active slide You can determine how fast the transition will occur in the Speed field -A sound effect can be added to the transition in the Sound field -Choose how the slide appears in the Advance slide area -The Apply to All Slides button applies the transition to every slide in the presentation -The Play button will preview the transition when clicked 15

Adding ClipArt to a Slide -There are two ways to add clip art to a slide in PowerPoint: A. Click on the Insert Clip Art button on the toolbar, or choose B. From the Insert pull-down menu choose Picture and then Clip Art from the submenu as shown below -The Clip Art pane will appear -Choose a piece of clip art by positioning the mouse pointer over its thumbnail image -To add it to your slide, click on the down arrow and choose Insert from the submenu -It will be placed in the center of the active slide and will be surrounded by selection dots -You can resize it with these dots or move it to another location on the slide by clicking, holding and dragging it to a different area of the slide 16

Saving a Presentation -From the File pull-down menu choose Save As -Use the Save In drop-down list to select a folder to place your presentation -Type the name of the presentation in the File Name box -Press the Save button -Your presentation is now saved, and its name can be seen within PowerPoint s menu bar 17

Printing a Presentation -Choose Print from the File pull-down menu -Select what you want to print from the Print What drop-down menu, the choices are: -Slides -Handouts (prints multiple slides per page) -Notes Pages -Outline View -In the Copies section of the dialog window you can choose how many copies you would like to print -Also in the Copies section, you can choose if you would like to collate your printing,. (Checking the Collate box tells the printer to print each copy complete, from the first page to the last, instead of printing all the first pages, followed by all the second pages, and so on) -Select the range of slides to be printed under the Print range section of the window All - prints all the slides in the presentation Current - prints the current slide Slides - prints the range of slides that you specify 18
