Installation in EPL-Da instruments As EPL-Da instrument, the overvoltage arresters B81-35 are only used as additional protection of the electronics. The installation in EPL-Da instruments does not meet all requirements of IEC 60079-14 chapter 16.3 (edition 2013). A suitable overvoltage arrester must be connected as close as possible at the entry in the installation location with EPL-Da. The safety instructions of the respectively connected overvoltage arrester are valid. Installation in EPL-Db instruments The overvoltage arresters B81-35 are suitable for installation in hazardous areas requiring an EPL- Db instrument. Installation in EPL-Dc instruments The overvoltage arresters B81-35 are for installation as protection of the electronics of instruments in hazardous areas, requiring an EPL-Dc instrument. The permissible operating temperatures without hazardous atmosphere are specified in the respecitive manufacturer information, for example the operating instructions. EPL-Gb instrument Temperature class T6-40 +80 C T5, T4, T3, T2, T1-40 +85 C Permissible ambient temperature on the electronics The permissible operating temperatures without explosion-endangered atmosphere are mentioned in the respective manufacturer instructions, e.g. operating instructions manuals. 5
EPL-Gc instrument Temperature class T6-40 +80 C T5, T4, T3, T2, T1-40 +85 C Permissible ambient temperature on the electronics The permissible operating temperatures without explosion-endangered atmosphere are mentioned in the respective manufacturer instructions, e.g. operating instructions manuals. In mounted condition, the respective temperature classes and permissible ambient temperatures of the VEGA instrument and the overvoltage arrester B81-35 must be taken into account and maintained. EPL-Da, EPL-Db, EPL-Dc instrument Permissible ambient temperature: -40 +85 C Max. surface temperature increase: negligible 5 Protection rating For applications in hazardous areas, overvoltage arrester B81-35 must be mounted in a suitable housing with min. protective level IP 20 acc. to IEC 60079-11. For applications in dust-explosive areas, overvoltage arrester B81-35 must be mounted in a suitable housing with min. protective level IP 5X acc. to IEC 60079-11. When mounted, the protection is determined by the respective VEGA instrument. The specifications in the operating and safety instructions of the respective VEGA instrument are applicable. 6 Protection against static energy In mounted condition and without outer parts of the overvoltage arrester, the instructions of the respective VEGA instruments of the manufacturer specifications, e.g. the operating instructions must be taken into account. 7 Installation/construction The overvoltage arresters B81-35, as far as required, must be only used in the VEGA housing with respective meachnical connection on the terminals of the signal and supply circuit. 8 Grounding To ensure the function of the overvoltage arrester, it is absolutely necessary to connect the overvoltage arrester B81-35 with the local potential equalization. For this purpose, the green-yellow protective ground cable must be connected via the cable lug to the ground cable inside the VEGA housing. The cable lug must be secured by means of screw connection and retaining ring. The outer ground terminal of the VEGA instrument must be connected acc. to IEC 60079-14 chapter 16.3 (edition 2013) to the local potential equalization. 6 Overvoltage protection B81-35
