Engineers, integrators and end users have to struggle researching and evaluating all the components, design around the technical interfaces, purchase from multiple vendors, program difficult PLC software, configure GUI software and displays, and all the other associated tasks. Before a system is tackled, the designer must become very knowledgeable on PLCs, radios, programming software and hardware interfaces. Sometimes this is guess work. Not only does it consume many hours and resources, the outcomes are usually not ideal. This always has bumps in the road and typically leads to different manufacturers pointing fingers at each other. What is worse, in the end, the system is usually proprietary and only one resource really knows how to expand, troubleshoot and maintain these types of systems. With this comes cost or sacrifice. ScadaAce is a new, easy, yet powerful SCADA solution for all of your monitoring and control needs. Overview Motorola has been providing SCADA systems for over 60 years. The Motorola Advanced Control Equipment Remote Telemetry Unit, or ACE RTU, and ACE IP Gateway are Motorola s latest and most powerful offerings available on the market. What differs from other SCADA systems and the Motorola solution is the ACE RTU provides the functionality of a powerful PLC with the most advanced communication technologies available. The Motorola ACE RTU products were designed, built, and manufactured to provide the solution required for cost effective and reliable monitoring and control of critical processes. These products are used in Public Utilities operations, Public Safety, Electric Utilities, building monitoring and control, security monitoring, asset management, automation, and many others. SCADA systems should be evaluated based on how well all the components function as a whole. Ultimately, this will determine how well the SCADA system will meet the needs of those who rely on its functionality. The entire SCADA system as a whole should include reliable hardware, software, communications, security, information availability and presentation, connectivity, and long term support. ScadaAce IP Gateway TCP/IP is a protocol in common use on Ethernet data highways such as the World Wide Web and others. The Motorola ACE IP Gateway provides the connectivity between the RTUs and the SCADA Server(s) and is a key component in the ScadaAce system. The Motorola ACE IP Gateway is packaged in the small NEMA enclosure, contains a power supply/charger, battery, and communication device(s) (radio or wireline modems) according to the needs of the system. The Motorola ACE IP Gateway module has multiple communication ports including Ethernet, Serial and RF modems. The Motorola ACE IP Gateway is connected to the SCADA Servers via the built-in IP Port. The Motorola ACE IP Gateway is a gateway a real-time protocol converter that seamlessly connects the various communications networks and medium to the SCADA Server(s) and GUI. It does not contain a database. It is configured by simply assigning a MDLC and an IP address for their respective systems use. The Motorola ACE IP Gateway provides the connectivity to conventional, MotoTrbo, IV&D and data radios as well as wired networks such as LAN/WAN, dial-up and many others. ScadaAce Server(s) and Graphical User Interface (GUI) Software GUI Display The ScadaAce Server(s) consists of standard Microsoft Windows based computer(s)/server(s) and GUI Software. They may be installed in either stand-alone or redundant. Multi-site configurations are also supported. It is the responsibility of the SCADA Server(s) to send and receive information from the Motorola ACE IP Gateway and present it to the end user. These components are also responsible for the RTU configuration, recording data for reports, trends, and analyzing and troubleshooting process issues. The ScadaAce GUI provides the tools for the automated Mobile Device Display configuration of the system as well as the tools to fully customize the SCADA system. Even more advanced configuration and customization may be accomplished by using the included System Tool Suite (STS). Additionally, the ScadaAce GUI includes features such as remote access through a web browser (expanding the number of users), high end security, logging, paging, texting, emailing, logging to SQL or ODBC compliant databases, WAP, redundancy, data backup, on-line configuration, interfaces to third party products and software, monitoring and control via mobile devices such as smart phones or tablets, and many other powerful features. ScadaAce Remote Telemetry Units (RTUs) The ACE RTUs are the key interfaces to the real world monitoring and control points across the system. Since the ACE RTU is a powerful PLC, the ScadaAce application is capable of full automation of the processes it is monitoring. Additionally, all of the set points, parameters and application programs may be remotely supervised and changed from the ScadaAce GUI. Typical three I/O slot RTU w/ PS, CPU, IP, I/O, radio and battery backup. Each I/O point on the I/O modules includes both isolation and surge suppression to protect critical processes. Each I/O module is co-processed for high speed operation and monitors itself for potential problems. The CPU module monitors itself, the communication links, the power supply, the I/O modules and the radio for potential problems or failures. Back-up batteries are included in each RTU providing approximately 4-8 hours of operation without AC power. The batteries are temperature controlled charged via the built-in power supply. Potential warnings and errors are reported back to the ScadaAce GUI. Additionally, the batteries may be remotely monitored and load tested via the STS Programming Software. The most important strength of the ACE RTU is its communication abilities. The ACE RTU is self aware of the communication network(s) and knows which communication links are available. The ACE RTU can operate on multiple communication mediums simultaneously, ensuring your critical data is delivered to you. If the RTU cannot communicate back to the ACE IP Gateway, the RTU will still remain to fully function based upon its last commands or to a preset communication failure mode. The ScadaAce GUI loads the included ScadaAce configurations and applications for you. The RTU is fully programmable so as your process needs change, the ACE RTU can change with you.
