1. Important Information Thank you for purchasing this B-TEC Systems infrared paint curing unit IR-B06.Please note, the unit has a rating plate attached which includes the model and serial number. Should you ever need service or parts, please provide that information when calling B-TEC Systems, or your distributor. This short wave infrared paint dryer is specially made for baking automotive refinish coatings. Its energy penetrates deep into the coating, ensuring not only a short baking time, but also producing excellent through curing of the coating. Each bake cycle only costs a few cents, making it highly efficient. The unit is built to last and its design offers the user great flexibility to deal with all the various shapes and contours of the motor vehicle. B-TEC SYSTEMS equipment has been built to the highest quality standards to ensure reliability. In order to get the best, safe use of this equipment, please read these instructions thoroughly before commencing assembly or operation of the machine. Failure to do so could result in damage or injury for which B-TEC Systems will accept no responsibility or liability. 2. Safety Regulations and Maintenance Advice B-TEC SYSTEMS equipment is designed to be used for the purpose explicitly described below. Any other use is in contrast with the regulations. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damages resulting from such non-regulatory use. Improper use can endanger the health of the operator and of others and cause damage to the machine itself or to other materials and assets. There is no liability for damages or injuries resulting of the following situations: Not complying with the instructions given in this manual Changes of technical product specifications Changes or breaking the safety devices 2.1 Work Area Do not use this equipment in an explosive or combustible environment; as it could lead to fire. Use caution when moving the equipment over uneven floors to avoid tipping over or damage to the emitters. Keep the working area clean and free of any obstructions. 4
2.2 Use To reduce the risk of explosion, DO NOT use in paint spray booths or within 10ft of spraying operations, as per the requirement of UL 499. This unit must be operated in a well-ventilated area. Isolate power supply before removing any covers. The machine should be well grounded for safety. The grounding device should be connected to the proper output port under correct direction. Unauthorized alteration or change of output port is strictly prohibited. Use of any outlet converter is also disallowed. If you are ever uncertain, please find a professional electrician to check whether the grounding is correct. Please make sure the machine is well grounded to avoid electric shock. If any lamp / tube fails to work after starting, it may be caused by a loosened outlet plug. In such a case, just switch off the machine and check that the plug is secure in the socket on the connection box located on the end of the unit arm. Replace any chaffed or damaged cables / wires immediately to avoid the possibility of electric shock. Don t misuse the electric cable. Do not drag the machine with the power cable or pull the power plug. Keep the power cable away from hot, oily or sharp objects. Should the power cable become damaged, ask the manufacturer, service provider or a professional to replace it to reduce the risk of injury / damage. 2.3 Maintenance and Care Regular cleaning of tubes and reflectors should be done by using a piece of soft cloth or cotton with IPA, alcohol or mentholated spirits (Note: cleaning must only be conducted after the machine is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down if necessary). Allow 15 minutes for the solvent to dissipate before switching the unit back on. The device should be protected by a 30-Amp-fuse. For replacement lamps / tubes, contact your distributor. 2.4 More Information Always turn the unit off before moving, especially over rough surfaces. Do not use the equipment in damp or wet locations. When the equipment is not in use, close the window on the distance indicator to avoid dust / overspray contamination. 5
3. Technical Description of the Machine 1. Every emitter is controlled by a separate switch. 2. Every cassette can be rotated 360 and the whole baking lamp head assembly can be turned through 300. 3. The height is adjustable. 4. Electronic timers are incorporated to regulate the bake cycles. 5. An ultrasonic distance measuring device is provided. 6. 4. Assembly /Installation 1. Take out the pedestal 3, install the rear wheel brackets onto the pedestal and the rear wheels 2 2. Fix the column 6 onto the pedestal 3 using the 4 hex bolts provided. At this time, Do not press the gas strut lever as the arm (8) will extend fiercely when the infrared head assembly is not connected / mounted 3. Install the cassette assembly back bar directly under the swing arm junction box. 4. Attach the power wires A, B, C, D, E, F from the cassettes and the distance sensor plug into the associated sockets at the junction box 17 5. Install the handle 5 onto the column 6. 6. Important: Remove the stickers from the protection covers. 7. Important: Take out the red foam cubes behind the tubes. Notes: Live wire (black), neutral wire (white), ground wire (green). Power supply: 20 Amp, 1 PH 220V/ 240v 60Hz. If you want to move the emitter up and down, use one hand to hold the Cross arm on the handhold, and push the gas filled struts handle 11 with the other hand. 15 17 Move the cross arm only by using the handhold to avoid risk of injury! 8

Connect the power supply and turn on the power switch (11). 2. Push down on the gas strut handle to adjust the height of the cassette assembly and the surface to be cured / heated. 3. Adjust the direction of the emitters. They have to be aligned parallel to the area to be cured / heated. 4. Push button (8) to activate distance sensor after checking that the distance indicators protective door is open. Move the unit toward the area to be cured / heated. When the green light illuminates stop. This is the optimal distance (approximately 24 inches.) When this function is activated the emitters will not turn on if you are too close or too far away. As required, you can also shut down and ignore this function. 5. Engage brake on the rear wheels to avoid any accidental movement of the unit. 6. Adjust the timer buttons (6) to set half power / flash baking time. Choose between 0-35 minutes. Do this when the Half power/flash light (12) is illuminated 7. Adjust the timer buttons (7) to set full bake time. Choose between 0-35 minutes. Do this when the Full bake/continuous light (13) is illuminated. 8. Select which emitters you wish to use by pressing the emitter buttons 3a/b, 4a/b, 5a/b. 9. Press the start button (10) and the baking cycle will commence. 10. If you need to stop the cure cycle press pause button (9) once), repress the start button (10) to restart the lamp. If you want to shut down the lamp, just press button (9) twice. 11. At the end of the cure / bake cycle the machine will produce a beeping sound indicating the cure cycle is completed. 12. Please note: The factory pre-set cure time is 5 min half power / flash and 10 minutes full bake / continuous. 9
Using the Memory Function to store bake times 1. Set the half power / flash-off and full-baking time based on the paint type. 2. Press and hold one of the memory buttons for 2 seconds. You will hear a beep. The preheating and full-baking time will be stored in the memory. There are four memories available to store your bake times. 3. When you need the stored setting, just press the corresponding memory button. 4. When resetting the memory, just repeat Steps (1) & (2) to store new settings. Description of the Distance Indicator 1. Left red indicator: Distance is too far. 2. Left yellow indicator: Distance is rather far. 3. Green indicator: Distance is suitable. 4. Right yellow indicator: Distance rather close. 5. Right red indicator: Distance is too close. 5.1 Curing Times The following times are provided as an approximate guide only. Paint type Half power / Flash off (Minutes) Full bake (Minutes) Filler/Stopper --- 5-7 Primer --- 6-8 Hi-build --- 10-12 Solid-color --- 11 Clear coat --- 12 Waterborne primer --- 8-10 Note: We suggest that 5 minutes half power / flash time is added when curing high build primers and dark colors. When possible consult a B-TEC SYSTEMS paint curing data sheet. 10
6. Replacement of Emitter Lamp Tube Un-plug the power supply, before replacing the infrared emitter / tube. 1. Remove the side panel. 2. Release the radiating panel. 3. Loosen the two leads in the lamp and remove them. 4. Remove the protective grill in front of the emitter. 5. Take out the defective emitter and fit the new emitter after checking that the part you purchased is correct. Ensure that you attach the wires correctly. 6. Install the protective grill, radiating panel and the side panel. Use a piece of soft cloth or cotton to clean the reflector panel and the emitter with alcohol. Cleaning must be conducted after the machine is disconnected from the power source and cooled down if necessary. Do not restart the equipment until all solvent / cleaning fluid residue has evaporated. 15 minutes advised as the evaporation time. Disconnect 1 2 The emitter wires 3 4 5 6 11
