How to manage backgrounds in PowerPoint Solid fill Let s start with a blank presentation. First you can do is to right-click anywhere on your slide and select Format Background menu. Gradient fill Choose Solid fill to apply a color to your background Gradient fill to produce a three dimensional color look by blending one color into another Picture or texture fill to embed an offered texture or a picture from your computer or the Internet, and adjust it with variety of tools Pattern fill to add a beautiful pattern which is actually a picture, and chose your combination of colors Picture fill Texture fill Pattern fill Although it s a blank presentation it has a theme, and it s called Office theme. Every theme has its own pallet of colors. Pattern fill with different colors Tip: If you want to apply a specific color, select the toll called Eyedropper and click on a sample of desired color. It will be automatically applied to your background.
Slide Master Slide Master Go to View and select Slide Master if you want all your slides to contain same settings as fonts and pictures, like logos for example. Changes that you make in the very first slide will apply to all your slides. It is more likely that you will change layouts, as they contain placeholders for text, pictures, videos, shapes, a background, etc. After you finish with editing, close Master slide, and your newly created slide will be in the Insert > New slide section. You can use it when ever you need. Tip: Play with slide s elements and position them as you wish. Add or remove anything. Layouts
Insert a portion of a picture or a logo Applying a faded picture or a logo to the background can look very attractive. As we said already, go to Slide Master, select slide layouts that you want to apply logo on. Right-click on an empty space of your slide and select Format Background. Insert a picture and in the Format Background menu slide the Transparency bar to set transparency percentage. If you want the picture on all of your slides, click Apply to all. To apply a portion of a picture insert new blank slide from Insert tab. Insert a picture and use the slide bar in the lower right-hand corner to zoom out the slide so you can have a better preview. Enlarge picture to be bigger than the slide and position it in the way it best fits for you. In the layout pane see how the slide will look like
Remove the background of a picture and set it as a slide background Tip: Click one of the handles and drag to mark the area you want to keep and exclude areas you want to remove. You can remove the background of a picture that you inserted in a slide if you select the picture and go under Picture tools, on the Format tab, in the Adjust group, and click Remove Background. Save the picture to your computer and apply it through Format Background menu as shown on page 1. If you would like to keep more parts of the picture, click Mark Areas to Keep and use the drawing pencil to mark the area you want to keep. To remove more parts click Mark Areas to Remove.
Add a theme and background style When creating new presentation you can choose Blank presentation and then under Design tab go to Themes and apply desired theme. A background style is a background fill made up of different combinations of theme colors. When you change a presentation theme, the background styles change to reflect the new theme colors and backgrounds. Click the View tab, and then click the Slide Master View tab to change the Background Styles of selected slides. Under Variants tab choose a different variant of the selected theme. Another way to apply a theme is to click File to go to Backstage view, select New and choose a theme. Choose from themes or browse one online To apply the style to matching slides, all slides, selected slides, or slide master, rightclick the style from the gallery, and then click an option.
