OCI Trade Mission to India November 25 December 1, 2013 Background The Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCI) is planning its first nuclear supply chain trade mission to India to participate in the India Nuclear Energy Summit 2013 trade show and conference being organized by UBM India from 28-30 November 2013 at Nehru Centre, Worli, Mumbai. OCI is an association of more than 175 leading Canadian companies that supply products and services to the nuclear industry in Canada and offshore markets. OCI is increasing efforts to assist member companies in offshore markets where nuclear programs are expanding and where OCI companies may have unique advantages because of their accumulated knowledge and expertise such as in CANDU and PHWR related equipment manufacture and service. The India nuclear market has a majority of nuclear reactors based on the PHWR technology. The Indian civil nuclear market estimated to represent a $60 billion business opportunity is particularly attractive to OCI members. The Department of Atomic Energy plans to increase nuclear power generation capacity in India from 4000MW to 40,000MN by 2030. This capacity increase represents a potential business opportunity. OCI has retained Armitt Inc to conduct an assessment of opportunities in the India nuclear market for OCI member companies. Preliminary findings of the evaluation will be available by November 1 st and will be shared with all trade mission participants. India Nuclear Energy Summit 2013 trade show and conference The 5th edition of Indian Nuclear Energy Summit is co-organized by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), the nodal Government body in the Indian Nuclear Energy sector and supported by Indian Nuclear Society (INS). In previous years, the event had Country symposiums such as the Indo-US Nuclear Energy Safety Summit (2011), Indo-UK Collaboration Seminar (2012) and Indo-French Seminar (2011, 2012). The exhibition also had country pavilions from USA, France and Russia in addition to booths by individual leading companies in the nuclear industry. Last edition had attendance of about 700 delegates and about 3700 Industry professionals from the Nuclear Energy sector. In 2013 UK will be organizing an Indo-UK Collaboration Seminar on the second day. Page 1 of 6
Indian Trade Commissioner s Proposal for supporting the OCI Delegation Canada and India have chosen PHWR technology for the development of the nuclear program in their respective countries. Similar technology makes Canada a natural partner now that the nuclear co-operation agreement has been finalized. Therefore there is a need to increase the visibility and awareness of Canadian capability in the Indian nuclear market. In order to increase the visibility and awareness of Canadian capability and support the OCI delegation, the Trade Commissioner s office for India is proposing: a) Networking reception for the delegation on 28 th November 2013 at the Conference venue; b) Canada Country Pavilion at the Exhibition; c) Half day country seminar to highlight Canadian capabilities and Canada as a natural partner for India in the nuclear energy sector on November 30 th ; and d) participate in the 3 rd Annual Canada-India Business Forum on November 29th. Networking Reception Day one of the conference should have the best attendance with all the important stakeholders participating at the Conference as well as the exhibition. OCI, along with the High Commission and Ontario (MEDTE) will host a Networking Reception for the delegates attending the summit and trade show on 28 th November 2013. This event will provide a good opportunity for the OCI delegates to network with the Indian stakeholders in an informal setting. A speech, by the trade mission leaders, at the networking reception will provide key messages to highlight the Canadian value proposition in the Indian market. Canada Country Pavilion at the Exhibition Currently there is limited visibility of Canadian capability in the Indian nuclear market. Now that the nuclear cooperation agreement has entered into force, the Canadian supply chain can showcase it s capability. With greater awareness of each other s capabilities there is significant opportunity for greater commercial engagement between Indian and Canadian companies that form the supply chain in their respective countries. OCI with support of the Canadian Government (DFAIT) and Ontario Government (MEDT) will set up a Canada Country Pavilion at the India Nuclear Energy 2013. This will facilitate dissemination of information on Canadian capabilities in the nuclear industry to the Indian delegates. The Canada Country Pavilion will also showcase the broader capabilities of OCI members.. Page 2 of 6
Canada Country Seminar: A Canada Country symposium will be organized on November 30 th where members of OCI will describe their capabilities and provide an overview of the Canadian value proposition to the Indian market. (Please see attached draft agenda for the Symposium). High Level engagement The conference organizers have confirmed a slot will be made available for the leader of the Canadian delegation at the Inaugural plenary session on November 28, 2013 of the Indian Nuclear Energy Summit 2013. The other speakers at the Inaugural plenary session are: Dr. R.K. Sinha, Chairman Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, and Mr. K.C. Purohit, Chairman and Managing Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. OCI Company Participation in the Trade Mission OCI companies that wish to join this Trade Mission should complete the attached application form and return it to the OCI Office by October 21, 2013. OCI has been awarded GOA (Global Opportunities for Associations) funding that will be applied to defray up to 50% of the costs for up to 10 participating OCI member companies. The OCI office, in collaboration with the GOA office, may have to exercise judgment in deciding which companies can receive GOA funding support. Page 3 of 6
