Battery & memory installation Warning: Do not use different Voltage lead acid battery other than the one specified in this section. Doing so will damage the camera and will void the warranty. The Stealth Cam STC-WD3MT-RT Advanced Digital Scouting Camera is designed to operate using two different types of battery power options. NOTE: Always have camera in OFF position when installing or removing batteries. Batteries C cell The internal battery compartment accepts 6 C cell batteries. Be sure to use high quality brand name alkaline batteries. Install batteries in correct polarity (+/-) as noted inside battery compartment. 9

12V Lead Acid external battery The STC-WD3MT-RT is equipped with an external power jack designed to accept a barrel plug cable to attach to a sealed lead acid battery. (sold separately). Battery cable and complete 12V Lead Acid battery kits are available wherever Stealth Cam scouting cameras are sold or call toll free 877-269-8490. Only Stealth Cam external battery accessories are recommended. Make sure the camera power switch is OFF and power source switch on BATTERY. Insert the battery pack plug into the DC 12V jack of the bottom of camera housing Turn the camera power on. Please make sure the voltage and polarity (+/-) are correct before connection. Incorrect voltage or polarity (+/- ) will damage the camera. 10

Memory Options Your STC-WD3MT-RT camera is equipped with 32MB built in flash memory. The camera is also equipped with an expendable media card slot capable accepting up to 2GB Compact Flash card (sold separately.) With no memory card inserted into the slot, the camera will use the built in 32MB memory. If a Compact Flash card is inserted into the slot then the camera will bypass the built in memory and utilize the compact flash memory. The front counter display will show the number of images on the built in memory unless the expansion card is inserted at which point the counter will only show the number of images in the expansion card. Inserting CF card Make sure camera is in the OFF position when ever adding or removing memory. Insert CF memory card in to the CF card slot completely and in the correct direction as shown by the sticker located at the top of the housing. To remove the CF memory card by press the eject button which is on the upper of the card. 11

Compact flash cards must be clean (no images from other sources), if you are using the CF card from other cameras, please make sure to format the CF card prior use in the STC-WD3MT-RT. New cards are good to use straight from the package. 12

Set up and Programming. STC-WD3MT-RT When the camera is first turned on the internal LCD screen displays the camera status. The following information is present on this screen. If no buttons are pressed after 30 seconds the LCD screen will power down to conserve battery life. To re-power the screen press and hold the UP or DOWN button for at least 5 seconds. Time out: To set the amount of time in minutes the camera will sleep between PIR triggering. Flash Control: o Auto: In low light conditions the flash will automatically activate. 13

o STC-WD3MT-RT Flash Off: Turn off flash light Capture mode: The capture mode that you have selected. o 1P: Single image capturing per PIR triggering. o 2P: Two images continuous capturing per PIR triggering. o 3P: Three images continuous capturing per PIR triggering. o Video: Taking 10 seconds video per PIR triggering. o Manual: Manual capturing by press manual shutter to operate only. (use as point and shoot camera) Resolution: The resolution selection that you have selected. o 3.0M: Select this option to capture a 3.0M pixels image. o 2.0M: Select this option to capture a 2.0M pixels image. o 1.3M: Select this option to capture a 1.3M pixels image. o VGA: Select this option to capture a 300K pixels image. o Video resolutions: This is the resolution during video capturing and resolution is 100K pixels. 14

Batteries Status: It shows the battery status. o Full: It shows the batteries are full. o Half: It shows the batteries are half. o Low: It shows the batteries are low and front battery indicator will be on also. When the camera has detected low batteries, (Batteries are lower then 6.6 +/-0.2Volts) the camera unit will power off within 30 seconds automatically. Please replace with new batteries; otherwise the camera will not work properly. Day and Time: It shows the date and time that you have set. Moon phase and Temperature: It shows the moon phase and temperature. 15

Programming the Stealth Cam STC-WD3MT-RT Switch the camera to the ON position. Once the Camera status screen is visible press the MENU button. This will bring up the SETTING screen. Capture mode / Resolution / Time out / TV System / Date & Time settings are all performed in this menu. Set the Capturing sequence. The Stealth Cam STC-WD3MT-RT can be programmed to shoot 1-3 pictures per triggering or 10 seconds of video. The user also has the option to select manual mode to operate camera as a handheld point and shoot camera. 16

Power on the unit, press the [MENU] button to bring up the menu on the LCD screen. Press [UP] or [DN] to highlight CAPTURE Then press the [OK] button to enter capture setting. Press the [UP] or [DN] button to select the desired capture setting (number of pictures per triggering) and press the [OK] to save. This will return you to the SETTING SCREEN menu. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to select additional program settings or press [MENU] again to exit the SETTING SCREEN. Set the Resolution: Press the [UP] or [DN] to highlight RESOLUTION Then press the [OK] button to into the resolution settings. Press the [UP] or [DN] button to select the desired resolution and press [OK] to save Use the UP and DOWN buttons to select additional program settings or press [MENU] again to exit the SETTING SCREEN. 17

Set the Time out: STC-WD3MT-RT Press the [UP] or [DN] button to highlight TIME OUT. Press [OK] to enter the setting. Press [UP] or [DN] button to set the desired time out in minutes (one minute increment from 1-10 and five minute increments from 10 to 60 minutes). Press [OK] again to save the setting. This will return you to the SETTING SCREEN menu. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to select additional program settings or press [MENU] again to exit the SETTING SCREEN. If no buttons are pressed within 30 seconds, the unit will return one minute count down mode then start PIR capturing. Set TV System: NTSC is the correct setting for all of North America. Your Stealth Cam STC-WD3MT-RT comes preprogrammed for NTSC. Press the [UP] or [DN] button to highlight TV OUT. Press [OK] to enter the setting. 18

Press the [UP] or [DN] to set the TV output in NTSC or PAL system. Press [OK] again to save the setting. This will return you to the SETTING SCREEN menu. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to select additional program settings or press [MENU] again to exit the SETTING SCREEN. If no buttons are pressed within 30 seconds, the unit will return one minute count down mode then start PIR capturing. Set Date and Time: This camera uses the 24hr military time format. Press the [UP] or [DN] button to move to highlight DATE AND TIME. Press [OK] to enter the TIME & DATE setting menu. Press [UP] or [DN] to select the TIME Using the UP and DOWN buttons set the appropriate hour then press OK. This will highlight the minutes. Using the UP and DOWN buttons select the appropriate minute. 19

Press the [OK] to save the time and this will return you to the TIME & DATE setting menu. Press [UP] or [DN] to select DATE and press the [OK] Using the UP or DN buttons select the appropriate month then press OK. This will bring you to the day setting. Using the UP or DN buttons select the appropriate day then press OK. This will bring you to the year setting. Using the UP or DN buttons select the appropriate year then press OK. This will return you to the DATE & TIME setting menu. Press the [MENU] to return to the main setting menu. Once all settings have been completed press the MENU button to return to CAMERA STATUS screen. If no buttons are pressed within 30 seconds, the unit will return to one minute count down mode then start PIR capturing. 20

Flash Strobe Control: The camera is pre-program with Auto Flash setting. Switch the camera to ON position. To turn off the flash strobe, press the UP button once within 30 seconds. A icon will appear on the top of the screen. To turn on the flash strobe back to Auto setting, press the UP button the second time. A icon will appear on the top of the screen. 21

Using the camera STC-WD3MT-RT Once all program setting has been completed, your Stealth Cam is ready for field use. Getting started Mounting the Camera. It is recommended to mount the camera 5-6 ft off the ground with the camera pointed at a slight downward angle. Be sure to avoid mounting the camera facing east or west as the rising and setting of the sun could produce false triggers and overexposed images. Clear branches and other debris away from the front of the camera so as not to block the camera lens or PIR sensor. 22

Mounting the camera with the supplied Tree Screw Hand twist the screw into the tree or post at the desired position. Attached the camera to the screw by turning the camera onto the mounting screw to the desired position. Tighten the stabilizer nut. Attached camera to tree screw. Do not over tighten as this may cause damage to camera housing. Using the supplied nut and washer, tighten to the bottom of camera for greater stability. 24

Mounting the camera with the supplied strap Insert the strap through the strap slots on the rear housing. Wrap the strap around the mounting surface. Secure the strap and tighten the buckle in order to secure the camera. Stealth Cam offers a Security Lock Bracket for uses exclusively with this camera. See included accessory card or call toll free 877-269-8490. In order to obtain proper weather resistance, please make sure that both door latches are securely locked in place. 25

Adjust the PIR coverage distance This Stealth Cam offers the user a variable PIR distance. The PIR dial has a near to far designation. NEAR is approximately 15ft and FAR is approximately 30ft. Select the desired coverage distance. (see PIR Coverage Diagram on page 22 for reference.) Testing the camera coverage area One of STC-WD3MT-RT Cam s many features is the ability to test the coverage area. After mounting the camera, open front housing and slide the power to ON. After the font LCD screen has powered on. Press the [TEST] button (this must be done with in 30 seconds or the camera will enter count down mode) Close the front housing. 26

Walk around in the front of the camera to see if you have mounted camera in the proper position. A green indicator light on the front will blink on when you have intruded the coverage area. Adjust the camera position as needed and repeat testing until the desired coverage area is achieved. When you have completed the testing the coverage area there are 2 methods for exiting the test mode: a. Open the front housing and press the [TEST] button to exit test mode. The camera will then enter count down mode for 1 minute and front green indicator will start blinking giving you one minute to leave the coverage area. Then the camera will enter PIR detection mode. b. After 5 minutes in test mode, the camera will then enter count down mode for 1 minutes and the front green indicator will start blinking giving you one minute to leave the coverage area. The camera will enter PIR detection mode. 27

Using the camera in PIR detection mode Mount the camera to tree or other sturdy object using either two supplied tree screw or mounting strap (Please refer to the mounting suggestions section in this manual) Open the front housing and move the switch to the ON position. At this point you have 30 seconds to make any program adjustments. After 30 seconds the camera s green test light will begin blinking and enter count down mode. This is your indication to leave the coverage area with one minute. After one minute the camera will take between 1~3 pictures or a 10 seconds AVI video based on your program setting. The camera will then time out between 1 ~ 60 minutes also based on your setting. The time between motion detection and the camera taking the pictures may vary due to lighting conditions, charging of the flash, program setting and battery power level. This camera is equipped with Auto of Off flash control. 28

When the camera is set to AVI capturing, the 10 seconds clips will only turn out well in good daytime lighting conditions. If the lighting conditions are not enough, unit will switch the AVI to single image capturing automatically. When using the AVI function, the camera cannot use the flash. Time/Date stamp will not appear on the AVI video clips. Using the camera by manual shoot Open the front housing and turn the camera on. Program the capture mode to manual (Please refer to Program & Set up section on page 11 of this manual) Close the front housing. The camera is now ready to be used as hand held point and shoot camera. Use the optical viewfinder to align your shot then press the shutter button. 29

When taking nighttime pictures allow approximately 6 seconds between shots to allow the flash to charge. In case of low battery power, it will take longer to charge the flash between pictures. 30

Viewing and deleting the images. The STC-WD3MT-RT cam offers the user four different options for viewing the images. The external LCD display screen on the front housing will show the number of images in memory To wake the camera from PIR detection mode press and hold either the UP or DN button for about 5 seconds. Once the CAMERA STATUS screen appears select OK to enter the DELETE & FORMAT menu. The instructions below are based on starting from a camera that is turned off. Thumbnail display 31

Viewing the image on the built in TFT LCD screen Slide the camera power switch to ON. Press the OK button. A thumbnail view of the images in memory will be displayed. Using the UP and DN buttons select the image you wish to view. This will bring up the whole image on the screen. Then using the UP and DN buttons you may navigate though all the images in memory. To return to the thumbnail view from the full size image press the OK button. Viewing the image on a handheld LCD TV video monitor (cable included) Attach the appropriate cable to the video out jack on the camera. Insert the other end into the video in jack on handheld LCD TV monitor. Turn on both the camera and TV monitor. Press the OK button on the camera. 32

A thumbnail view of the images in memory will be displayed on the TV screen. Using the UP and DN buttons select the image you wish to view this will bring up the whole image on the screen. Then using the UP and DN buttons you may navigate though all the images in memory. To return to the thumbnail view from the full size image press the OK button. Viewing the images on your home TV equipped with an RCA input jack. (Cable included) Attach the appropriate cable to the video out jack on the camera. Insert the other end into the RCA video in jack on the TV. Turn on both the camera and TV. Make sure to switch to VIDEO IN mode on your TV. (See your TV owner s manual for directions. Press the OK button on the camera. A thumbnail view of the images in memory will be displayed on the TV screen. 33

Using the UP and DN buttons select the image you wish to view this will bring up the whole image on the screen. Then using the UP and DN buttons you may navigate though all the images in memory. To return to the thumbnail view from the full size image press the OK button. Viewing images by computer download The Stealth Cam STC-WD3MT-RT advanced Digital Scouting Camera is a plug and play USB storage device. This means users of Windows 2000 / ME / and XP operating system need not install the camera driver. This camera is not MAC compatible. The disc included in this package contains the camera driver for older operating systems as well as Ulead Photo Explorer imaging software for image enhancement and manipulation. 34

Attention: STC-WD3MT-RT The software CD-ROM packaged with the camera is designed for PC s only (not MAC compatible). Playing this CD-ROM on a stereo or CD player may cause damage to it. Software installation Unplug the USB cable from PC. Insert the CDROM in CD driver of your PC. The auto-run program will execute. Follow the instructions shown on screen from your PC to completely install the driver and application program. Restart windows. Successful installation will create Ulead Photo Explorer icon on you desktop. Connect your camera to the PC by the USB cable, the PC will recognize the new device and set UP the configuration of the PC automatically. 35

NOTE: Users of Windows 98 or earlier must install camera driver prior to connecting the USB cable. If your computer doesn t run automatically, please click Start button and choose Run, and then browse the CD drive and click Setup. Operation manual of Ulead Photo Explorer is contained on the provided CDROM. 36

Viewing the images on your computer using the provided software Please refer to Installation section on above to install the software and application program properly. Slide the power switch to OFF location. To view the images simply plug one end of the USB cable into an available USB port on your computer. Plug the other end of USB cable into the camera. The camera will automatically power ON and display a USB icon on the LCD screen. At the same time, your computer will recognize the camera as mass storage device and found under MY COMPUTER. 37

Deleting images At any time while viewing images on the built in LCD, Handheld TV or Home TV you may delete images one at a time or all at once. While viewing images either in thumbnail view or full screen press MENU to enter the DELETE & FORMAT menu. Using the UP and DN buttons to the desired function. Delete, Not delete or Delete ALL. After selection has been made the screen will go back to image preview mode. 38

Using the external solar power This Stealth Cam is designed to be used with an optional Stealth Cam solar panel accessory kit. (Sold separately) Make sure the camera is turned to OFF. Open the battery cover, Insert 6 C size rechargeable batteries into battery compartment and close the battery door. Adjust the solar panel s receiving side toward the sufficient sun light direction. Insert the solar panel s plug into the solar jack of the bottom of camera housing Slide the power source switch to SOLAR position to start the charging. When use the rechargeable battery connecting to solar panel, please always make sure the camera power source switch is on SOLAR position. 39

Also make sure to install the rechargeable batteries in correct polarity (+/-). Incorrect voltage or polarity (+/-) will damage the camera. For first time use, please leave the solar panel with camera power switch turned in OFF position for full daylight charging at least 20 hours. 40

CF Memory Card Compatibility Chart The following cards have been tested and approved for use in the Stealth Cam STC-WD3MT-RT model.
