PM43 Intermec Label Printer 1. Basic Settings Murray Goulburn has selected the Intermec PM43 300dpi printer for the printing of labels from the new SAP system. Your printer has been configured to print SSCC Labels (Margin 4mm. Width 105mm. Length 148mm) and configured to use Thermal Transfer ribbon. The standard ribbon size used is 110mm. In most cases the printer is directly connected via a USB cable for printing from the PC. The printer has been configured to use Direct Protocol. The PC Intermec Driver needs to be installed on the PC for printing. See the Step by Step Guide for printer setup. 1.1. Printer front panel settings The PM43 will boot up to a Ready screen. Upon pressing the menu select icon, the user will be presented with two choices: Main Menu: Printer configuration menu. This menu is pin enabled and is not accessible to site users; Load Media: This menu option provides instructions on how to load media. Instructions for loading ribbon are on the inside cover of the printer. 2. Troubleshooting tips 2.1. Issue The labels are being cut off on the left or right hand side From time to time a printer may produce labels with the right or left hand side of the label being cut off. The picture below shows this. The barcode is cut off on the left hand side 3 P a g e
In this picture the barcode is missing from the label indicating that the ribbon and/or labels are misaligned on the roll. Some checks to do: 1. Check that you have the correct ribbon, the ribbon should be 110mm wide. 2. Check that the label and ribbon are aligned so that the ribbon covers the whole label. The ribbon may need to be moved across on the print arm and/or the label may need to be repositioned. 3. The arm at the back of the printer may need to be tightened/loosened to position the roll of labels correctly Use the blue lever on the arm at the back of the printer to loosen/tighten the roll of labels on the arm 4. And check that the label guide is firm, but not too firm, against the label so it feeds correctly Adjust the blue label guide at the site of the printer so that it sits firmly at the edge of the label In this photo the label is correctly aligned with the ribbon. 4 P a g e
Whilst in this one it isn t - the label is too far to the right, the roll needs to be pushed further to the left. X 2.2. Issue The label is not printing evenly Sometimes you may get uneven print coverage across the label with the printing darker/crisper on one side of the label than the other. This can be fixed by adjusting the print head pressure. To do this: 1. Open the media cover 2. Remove the ribbon Turn the printhead lift leave counter clockwise to raise the printhead Raise the printhead leaver counter clock wise 3. Then press down the blue part of the printhead balance bar and move it Outward if the label was printing lighter on the right, Inward if the label was printing lighter on the left 4. Close the printhead and reload the ribbon 5. Close the media cover Please do NOT do this unless you have an issue as the printers are factory set for our requirements.. 5 P a g e
2.3. Issue The label is printing with lines through it Sometimes the label is printed with lines through them like the sample below. 1. Check that that the ribbon is taut and that there are no creases in it. In the first photo below the ribbon has been unevenly loaded onto the spindle whilst in the second photo the ribbon has been correctly installed. X If you have repeated problems with the thermal transfer ribbon getting wrinkled then you can try adjusting the ribbon tension bar. The steps to do this are: 1. Open the media cover 2. Use a straight-slot screwdriver to adjust the ribbon tension bar: 6 P a g e
a. Turn the tension bar screw clockwise to move the bar backward and decrease the tension. b. Turn the tension bar screw counter clockwise to move the bar forward and increase the tension The diagram below illustrates where the ribbon tension bar is located on the printer. 2.4. Issue Label prints with bar code only and no writing If a text document was mistakenly sent to the label printer then the next labels to print out can come out with only the barcode but no text. To fix this power the printer off, wait a couple of minutes, and then power the printer back on. 2.5. Issue Label prints but there is nothing on it If the printer prints the labels but there is nothing on them can indicate that the ribbon has been incorrectly loaded. There is ink on only one side of the ribbon. If the ribbon has been put in the wrong way then this will happen. 7 P a g e
3. Support Process If you have not been able to solve the issue with the printer with the above tips then please log a ticket with the Murray Goulburn IT Service Desk (03 9040 5539) and they will do further investigation and, if necessary, arrange for repair. 8 P a g e
