Vision Pointer Tools Pointer Tools - Uses Pointer Tools can be used in a variety of ways: during a Vision Demo to annotate on the master station s screen during a Remote Control session to annotate on the student s screen outside of Vision, to annotate on the presenter s screen during a PowerPoint presentation The default Pointer Toolbar is divided into three sections: List of Pointer Toolbar Buttons Drawing Tools Arrow Highlighter Pen Text (typing) Transparent Rectangle With Border Rectangle Outlined Oval Outlined Filled Rectangle Transparent Rectangle Filled Oval Transparent Oval Transparent Oval With Border Add Clipart Erase Selection Erase All Numbering* Move Objects* Clipart* Page 1 of 7

Viewing Tools Oval Spotlight Laser Cover Freeze Screen Zoom Rectangle Magnifier Oval Magnifier Miscellaneous Tools Snapshot Properties Arrow Tool Notes To begin using the arrow, single click the arrow button. Dynamic Arrows To create a dynamic (moving) arrow, do not click on the screen; just drag the arrow around. Static Arrows To create a static (non-moving) arrow, single click in location on your screen in which you want an arrow to appear and stay. You can move a static arrow by dragging it around the screen. Double click on any static arrow to reverse its direction. Right click on a static arrow to change its properties. To stop using the arrow, right click anywhere on your screen. Highlighter Tool Notes Single click the highlighter button for one use. Double click the highlighter button for multiple uses. Click and hold your left mouse button to draw with the highlighter. To stop using the highlighter after multiple uses, right click anywhere on your screen, or single click the highlighter button again. Page 2 of 7

Pen Tool Notes Single click the pen button for one use. Double click the pen button for multiple uses. Click and hold your left mouse button to draw with the pen. Right click on an item you have drawn with the pen to change its properties. To stop using the pen after multiple uses, right click anywhere on your screen, or single click the pen button again. Text (Typing) Tool Notes To begin using the text tool, single click the text button. Click on the area in which you want to place text, and begin to type. Right click on text you have typed to change its properties. To stop using the text tool, click away from the typed text. Shape Tool Notes Single click the desired shape button for one use. Double click the desired shape button for multiple uses. Click and hold your left mouse button to draw a shape. Right click on the shape you have drawn change its properties (outlined shapes only). To stop using the shape after multiple uses, right click anywhere on your screen, or single click the shape button again. Add Clipart Tool Notes The default toolbar displays only three types of clipart. To add more clipart icons single click the Add Clipart icon. Browse your computer for the image you wish to add. Choose the Thumbnail view. Change the File Type to All Files. Page 3 of 7

Double click on the clipart item. It will now be permanently on your toolbar in the Clipart Section. Sample: Repeat the process to add more clipart icons. Erase Selection Tool Notes Upon selecting the Erase Selection tool, the cursor will display as a trash can. Click-hold-drag a selection around the object you wish to delete. Be sure that the selection covers the entire object. Erase All Tool Notes Single click the Erase All tool, and then click anywhere on your screen. All drawn objects will be deleted. Numbering Tool Notes Click the expansion arrow in the upper right corner of the Pointer toolbar to view additional tools. The Numbering tool will place a small number in the upper right hand area for each object that you draw. Single click the Numbering tool. Choose a drawing tool and draw on the page. To stop using the Numbering tool, single click the Numbering tool again. Page 4 of 7

Numbered Objects Sample (green arrows for emphasis only they do not display): Move Objects Tool Notes Click the expansion arrow in the upper right corner of the Pointer toolbar to view additional tools. Some objects cannot be moved, or are difficult to move, after they have been placed on your page. In order to move them, click the Move tool. To stop using the move tool, single click move tool again. Clipart Tool Notes Click the expansion arrow in the upper right corner of the Pointer toolbar to view additional tools. To place clipart on your page, single click the desired clipart image on the toolbar, then click on your page. Oval Spotlight Tool Notes The Oval Spotlight allows you to highlight the portion of your screen on which you want to focus by darkening the other portions of the screen. Single click the Oval Highlight tool. Click-hold-drag to create a spotlight area. Move the spotlight to any location by moving the mouse. Page 5 of 7

To increase the size of the spotlight, hold the right click button and drag the mouse toward you. To decrease the size of the spotlight, hold the right click button and drag the mouse away from you. When finished with the Oval Spotlight, press the Escape key on your keyboard. Laser Tool Notes The Laser tool creates a pulsing red dot on your screen, which can be used to draw attention to elements on your page. Single click the Laser tool. A pulsing red dot will appear. Move the laser to any location by moving the mouse. To increase the size of the laser, hold the right click button and drag the mouse toward you. To decrease the size of the laser, hold the right click button and drag the mouse away from you. When finished with the Laser, press the Escape key on your keyboard. Cover Tool Notes The Cover tool will hide areas of your screen you do wish to have displayed. Single click the Cover tool to begin. A thin blue line will appear on all four sides of your screen. Place your mouse on the edge of the blue line. A double-headed black arrow will appear. Using the arrow, click-hold-drag on the blue line to extend the cover. The cover can be adjusted from all four sides. To remove the cover completely, click the Cover tool again, or right click on the cover and choose Exit. Sample Cover: Freeze Screen Tool Notes When the Freeze tool is clicked, nothing on the screen can move. Everything is deactivated, except for the Pointer tools. When finished with the Freeze tool, press the Escape key on your keyboard. Page 6 of 7

Zoom Tool Notes The Zoom tool will zoom in on a selected area of your screen. Single click the Zoom tool. Click-hold-drag to select an area of your screen. The magnified area will fill your entire screen. To zoom out, hold the right click button and drag the mouse toward you. To zoom in, hold the right click button and pull the mouse away from you. In the Preview window, drag the red square to move the zoom area to another part of your screen. When finished with the Zoom tool, press the Escape key on your keyboard. Rectangle & Oval Magnifier Tools Notes The Rectangle and Oval Magnifiers will magnify a selected area of your screen. Single click the Rectangle or Oval Magnifier tool. Click-hold-drag to select an area of your screen. The magnified area will appear in a red outlined box. You can move the red outlined box to any area of the screen. To increase the size of the magnified area, hold the right click button and drag the mouse toward you. To decrease the size of the magnified area, hold the right click button and drag the mouse away from you. When finished with the Rectangle or Oval Magnifier tool, right click inside the magnified area and choose Exit. Snapshot Tool and Properties Tool Snapshot = See the Snapshot Instructions.
