INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER CONCEPTS CSIT 100 LAB: MICROSOFT POWERPOINT (Part 2) Adding a Text Box 1. Select Insert on the menu bar and click on Text Box. Notice that the cursor changes shape. 2. Draw the textbox on the slide, or double-click it. If you just double-click it, then you ll have to resize it later. 3. Start typing. 4. When you are done, just click outside the Text box area. Formatting Text If you want to increase or decrease the font size of a given text, without giving it a specific value: 1. Select the text, which you want to increase or decrease its size. 2. Click the big A button on the font toolbar to increase the size or click on the small A button on the same toolbar to decrease it. If you want to change the font color for a given text, use the coloring section on the font toolbar. 1. Highlight the text, which you want to change its color. 2. Click on the arrow next to the big A that represents the font color (next to the brush). 3. Select the desired color. You can make selected text bold, italics, and underline the same way you would do it in MS- WORD. You can also specify the font size and type the same way you did in that program. Inserting a Clip Art You can insert images to your PowerPoint presentation: 1. A right pane will appear, with the Clip Art title. Near the bottom right of your screen,

click on the Find more at Office.com. Search for the category of the image on the website that appears. 2. If you double-click on the image, a new page will appear from where you can download the image. If you just want to insert the picture on your slide, right click on it, and select copy image. The image is copied to the clipboard. 3. Go back to your slide and do a paste operation (Paste). 4. Resize the image by clicking and dragging on any of the circles that appear at the corners of the image. Insert a Music or Sound file 1. Click Insert and select the Media Clip toolbar. Select Audio and then Audio from File. 2. Go to the folder where you want to get the files from. 3. Click on the sound file. 4. Click Ok. This will insert the contents of the sound or music file into your current slide. Move and/or resize the sound icon if desired 5. In the animation pane, on the right, right-clicking on the right arrow after the name of the song, you could determine whether the sound file should be played when clicked on it. There are other options that you could explore.. Setting Slide Show Transitions 1. Click the Slide Show tab. You will see all your slides on the left. 2. Click on the Set Up Slide Show on the Set Up section. 3. The Slide Set Up Task box appears. 4. Select the slides where the Set Up should work, (All, or select from.. to..) on the Show Slides section. 5. In the Advance slides section, you can select if you want the transition to occur after an elapsed time, or if you want it to occur by a mouse click, or both. 6. Close the Slide Show task box when you finish.

Setting Slide Transition Effects 1. Click on the slide that you want to apply the transition. 2. On the Transitions to this slide, click on the one you want to use to select the transition to be applied between the previous slide, and the one you have selected. 3. Select another slide and apply the desired transition for it. And so on. Setting Slide Animation Effects 1. Click the Animations tab. You will see all your slides on the left. 2. Select the first element in your slide to be animated. 3. Click on Add Animation on the Animation section. The Custom Animation task box appears. 4. This will display four different options. 5. Click Entrance. You will see several basic options. 6. You can select one of those, or click More Entrance Effects at the bottom. 7. Many slide animations have Direction. You can experiment with different settings for different styles of presentations. 8. Click the Preview button to see a preview of how the elements in a slide would be animated. EXERCISE 1. Create a PowerPoint folder in your disk, if you don t have it already. 2. Open your presentation from the previous lab from your flash drive. 3. In the second slide, create a Text Box and type (without quotes) Created on a Dell Computer. 4. Change the color of the text inside the previous Text Box to green. 5. Move the Text Box to the lower left corner of the second slide. 6. Click on Insert Tab and click the Online Pictures button. Find Computers on

Office.com. Look among them for the following one: 7. Resize the image and move it to the bottom right corner of the second slide; don t make it too small. Make sure that each bulleted item on this slide only takes up one line. 8. Create a new slide, same layout as the previous slide; its title should be HARDWARE COMPONENTS. 9. Type Monitor as the first bullet of the fourth slide, Mouse as the second bullet, Keyboard as the third bullet, and Scanner as the fourth bullet. 10. Set the slide transition for the first slide Blinds Horizontal, for the second slide Blinds Vertical, for the third slide Cover Down, and Dissolve for the fourth slide. Use the Transitions tab for this. Directions can be found in the Effects Options part. 11. Set the Slide Animation for the first slide s title to Blinds. Set the direction to Vertical (Direction can be found in the Effects Options part) 12. Set the Slide Animation for the first slide s subtitles to Blinds. Set the direction to Horizontal. 13. Set the Slide Animation for the second slide s Text box (created in step #3) to Peek In and in the Direction select From Bottom. 14. Set the Slide Animation for the second slide s clip art image to Float In (More

Effects ) and set the Direction to From Bottom. 15. Set the Slide Animation for the fourth slide s title to Spiral In (More Effects ). 16. Set the Slide Animation for the fourth slide s bulleted items to Fly In and set the Direction to From Bottom. 17. Create a new slide with the same layout as the previous slide. The title is MULTIMEDIA EXAMPLE. 18. Type: An MP3 file usually contains a song as the first bulleted item; type: Its music quality is as good as that from an audio CD as the second bulleted item and type Click on the sample below as the third bulleted item. 19. Pick only one of the following files: English.mp3, Spanish.mp3, or, Japanese.mp3 and insert it below the third bulleted item of the fifth slide. These files are located in Course Materials (Blackboard). After you insert the file, select the audio icon,. Then go to the Audio Tools in the menu, and click on Playback. Be sure that in options that appear, the Start has On Click selected. 20. Spell-check your slides. 21. Save your presentation in your flash disk (drive F or E?) as SecondPresentation.pptx (you do not need to type.pptx, if you choose to save as a PowerPoint 2010 Presentation file). Save it inside your PowerPoint folder. Upload it also to Canvas. 22. To print preview your slides; click on the Print section of the File Menu, but check the Pure Black and White option on Color menu, located on the left pane, BEFORE you do anything else, because this will show your printout in black and white. 23. By changing the Settings of the printing, you can have a print preview of the Notes Pages. 24. Similarly you may check the print preview of the Outline view, of the Handouts with different configurations, etc.
