You may also choose to install all of the clipart off of the CD by scrolling down, but this is not necessary (see pages 8-9). Then click Next> and allow time for the installation. Office Classroom Tools Overview Introduction Welcome to the Office Classroom Tools. These templates and classroom activities were designed to show how Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) could be integrated into the classroom. The purpose of this Help file is to provide an overview of this CD-ROM. After the Classroom Activities section, you ll find details about other components on the Office Classroom Tools CD How to Use Classroom Activities Each Classroom Activity includes a Help File and one or more Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) template(s). In order to use the template files, you must use the Help file at the same time, or print out the Help file. If you re using Office 97, follow these steps to access the activities: 1. Click the Start menu, click Programs, and then click Microsoft Office Classroom Tools. 2. Each activity includes both a Teacher Guide and a Student Activity. You can print the Help topic for either section. 3. The Help file is designed to stay on top the associated templates are launched by clicking a link in the Help file. ADDITIONAL CLIP ART Microsoft Office 98 must have been installed with the "Clip Art Gallery" component for this clip art package to work correctly. INSTALLATION TO LOCAL HARD DISK In order to be able to install this clipart, you will require 200MB of free space on your hard disk. After using the CD-ROM installation, you must manually insert the clip art package into the clip art gallery to make it available to the user. To do so: 1. Start Microsoft Word (or Excel/PowerPoint). 2. With a new document, choose Insert Picture Clipart from the menu. 3. Once the Microsoft Clip Gallery opens, click Import Clips 4. Change the Files of type to Clip Gallery Catalogs. 5. Browse to the Clip Art Gallery file you wish to add and choose open. You may wish to open the CD, or find the clipart package on the C:/ drive Microsoft Office Classroom Tools barry@haines.net 9

The clipart package will have a.cag and will probably look like the following. It should read moct99.cag 6. Click Import, then OK 7. Close the Microsoft Clip gallery. 8. Choose Insert Picture Clipart again from the menu. 9. When Microsoft Clip Gallery opens the new images will be available. Microsoft Office Classroom Tools barry@haines.net 10

The 2 nd Classroom CD contains over 100 lesson plans which you may access one of two ways as follows: 1) After inserting the 2 nd CD, click Classroom Resources then click Productivity in the Classroom at the bottom of the page. You may then search for an discipline based lesson plan. 2) After inserting the CD, CLOSE all open windows, right click on the CD icon and choose EXPLORE. Double click Classroom, then Docs then click on one of the following 4 files: Microsoft Office Classroom Tools barry@haines.net 11

Microsoft Word Processing Basics. Select and Take Action! Name Class GOAL To practice basic word processing skills in Microsoft Word. When working in a word processing program remember to think in two parts: 1) Select 2) Take Action! Why might you want to select text? To delete it, resize it, change the text font, color, or style. Selecting Text Using click and drag: Click and drag over the text Double click on a word Triple click in a paragraph to select the paragraph Using the selection bar Move your mouse to the left boarder so that it turns into this type of icon. Then, click once -- to select a line of text click twice -- to select a paragraph of text click three times to select the entire document. click and drag in the selection bar -- to select any amount of text To select a vertical block of text hold the (Alt) key and drag across the text. Taking Action! There are at least three ways to modify your text. The formatting toolbar, the Format font menu, and by right clicking on the selected text. 1) Use these buttons on your formatting toolbar to modify your text. 2) The formatting font menu Open the font formatting menu to make additional changes. Click on the Format menu at the top of your document. Then choose Font... Explore all of these different fields. Preview your choices in the lower right. 3) Right click on the selected text and you will see a shortcut pop-up menu. Click on the word Font and you will see the same font menu as above. Inserting and Editing ClipArt and Graphics in MSWord or Powerpoint Name Class GOAL: To insert a clipart (.wmf or.bmp), or picture (.jpg or.gif) file into a PowerPoint or Microsoft Word document. To learn graphic editing techniques. Steps: 1. Open Microsoft Word (or Powerpoint). Click Start/Programs/Applications/MSWord Note: you may open an existing file, or a new file. 2. Place your blinking cursor where you want the picture or clipart inserted. 3. Click Insert: Picture Clip Art (*.wmf, or *.bmp files) 4. Select Clip Art to get the Clip Art Gallery. OR Pictures (*.jpg, or *.gif files) graphics from the internet 5. Select from file to point your computer at a graphics file saved back to your computer from the Internet. Inserting and Editing Graphics in MSWord and Powerpoint After selecting a piece of ClipArt, or Picture from the Inernet to insert: 6. Click Insert. Your clip art will appear in your document. 7. Click once on the object to see handles. 8. Move the object when you see the four sided arrow, click and drag to move the object. 9. Resize - Move your mouse until you see a double-sided arrow. This allows you to resize the object. PICTURE TOOLBAR 10. Crop Click once on the crop tool, then move your mouse to one of the handles and click and drag to make the object size cropped larger or smaller.
