Navigation & Tools From the full county map, you can easily navigate to your location with the zoom in/out buttons in the lower left hand corner or with the search by address box in the upper right hand corner. Both of these options are explained in further detail. Once you are zoomed in on an area, you can simply click on a property and a pop-up box will appear with a heading of Parcel_Data and a long number. This number is the property parcel identification number or PID and you will find information pertaining to this location. The Shape_Area or Square Footage, the Acres_1 or the taxable acres, Weblink or More Info which is hyperlinked to the Appraiser s Office, Treasurer s Office and Register of Deeds for additional information, Owner s name and mailing address, tract description, property address, last book/page or court document if one has been recorded since March of 2010, and the primary classification of the property. You can also use the Zoom to in order to zoom and center yourself on the property. 2 P a g e

Upper Right: Layer List This tool will open up a list of all the layers available in the map. You then have the option to turn them on or off. However, not all layers can be turned on a full extent due to their size and over-posting. For example, the address points do not come on until you zoomed in on a property. You would then have the option to turn them off. Draw Allows you to add graphic points, lines, polygon shapes, or text to your map before printing. Select the type of graphic you would like to add. For example, if you choose the point, the following will open. You may use the default icon or line type, or you may select a different icon, size, or color. As you begin adding graphics to the map, the tool will help. For example, it will tell you to click and drag a line, or click to start drawing and double click to finish. Undo will remove the last graphic drawn. Redo will add back the last graphic that you removed with Undo. Clear will remove all graphics. 5 P a g e
Measurement will allow you to measure area, distance or determine your location. Using the measurement tool will open the following toolset. To measure area, you click on the first tool and it will activate the option to choose between acres, sq miles, sq kilometers, hectares, sq yards, sq feet or sq meters. It is defaulted on acres; to change it just click on the down arrow to the right of acres and select a different measurement. You are now ready to click a beginning point on the map. You will continue to use mouse clicks to draw the area you wish to measure and double click to end the sketch. Your result will show up in the Measurement box and the area measured will be highlighted on the map. The second tool option is for distance. When you choose this option it will activate the option to choose between miles, kilometers, feet, meters, yards an dnautical miles with feet being the default. 6 P a g e
You are now ready to click a beginning point on the map. You will continue to use mouse clicks to draw the line you wish to measure and double click to end the sketch. Your result will show up in the Measurement box and the distance measured will be highlighted on the map. The last measurement tool option is for location. When you choose this option it will activate the option to choose between Degrees and DMS with being the default. By choosing this tool and clicking a location on the map, it will identify it in Degrees (Decimal Degrees) or DMS (Degrees, Minutes, Seconds). Print the print functionality allows you to create a map to print. 7 P a g e
You have the option to leave the Map Title box with the default name of ArcGIS Web Map or change it to a more descriptive title for your map. The next option you have is the Layout: which is defaulted on MAP_ONLY. This means that your map will fill the page. It will not include a title or a legend. If you chose one of the options from the dropdown, it will add the map to a layout and include such things as your title and a legend. When you are ready, you will click the Print button. You will see a scroll bar tha t says Creating Print. When it is finished, it will list your map. In the example below, I have created two maps. Draw Allows you to Search Allows you to search the map by a specific address. In the box provided, you will enter the street address, City, State and as you are typing it will be searching all of the world for a match. If you see it in the list you can select it or when you get it typed in click on the magnifying glass. It will zoom you to the approximate location on the map. 9 P a g e
You can then close the Search result box and look at the aerial map with the streets and addresses identified to find your exact location. 10 P a g e
Lower Right: Overview Map this gives you an idea of where you are in relation to other cities or properties or streets/intersections. The overview map is on by default, but you have two additional options. You can use the arrow located in the bottom right hand corner that points to the corner, which will turn off the overview map and remove it from your viewing area. When you use this option, it will change to an arrow pointing to the upper left, which will allow you to turn the overview map back on. Directly above the single arrow are four small arrows pointing out in each direction. This is a maximize button. It will maximize the overview map to the size of your screen. The arrows will change to all be pointing in, and you can select it to minimize the overview map. 11 P a g e
Upper Left: Legend This tool option provides you with a legend of the layers which are currently turned on. You are able to drag this Legend window to a new location if it is covering a part of the map you are trying to see. Basemap Gallery This tool option provides you with ESRI options to use as a basemap. There are optional street maps and topographic maps, etc. You will need to turn off the default Aerial photographs through the Layers option in the upper right hand corner to use one of these basemaps. 12 P a g e
