version 5.0 Top Reasons to Upgrade With the latest release of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software, your organization gains new administrative features, built-in high availability to maximize system uptime and minimize unplanned downtime, and application management to deploy, control and manage applications with new wireless capabilities that help increase productivity.

Why You Should Upgrade to v5.0 v5.0 is designed to provide peace of mind while helping you meet your mobility needs. Engineered for mission critical environments, you can benefit from the high availability architecture, improved administrative features, valuable monitoring tools, advanced security, and its ability to grow with your company. Giving Power and Flexibility New Meaning The BlackBerry Administration Service is a dynamic, web-based, centralized administrative console designed to provide a complete and efficient way to manage the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution. The console is customized, so that it only shows the administrator the relevant tasks based on their role. It provides what is needed to set up and manage the high availability architecture, wirelessly deploy BlackBerry smartphones, manage user settings, deploy and manage applications, assign permissions, control groups, and update BlackBerry Device Software. Enterprise-wide application deployments and upgrades are efficient and can be done without impact to BlackBerry smartphone users. With enhanced job management, throttling and scheduling, deployments can now be managed around peak business hours. Jobs can be scheduled to avoid interference with day-to-day business continuity which solves the problem of the IT Administration team needing to work after hours. Jobs and tasks can both be throttled, with individual throttling thresholds available for varying types of tasks including IT policies, application distribution, device software distribution and device software application settings. Custom roles and enhanced group functionality provide more controls that allow administrators to assign BlackBerry smartphone functionality according to employee roles within the company. IT managers can now assign role-based permissions to IT staff, tailoring BlackBerry administrative tasks to the specific role of the administrator. Group membership capabilities have been expanded, with multiple levels of nested groups possible, and the ability to assign roles, software configurations and IT policies to groups. v5.0 administration has been fine-tuned with the addition of the BlackBerry Enterprise Transporter. This tool allows administrators to migrate BlackBerry smartphone users from one BlackBerry domain to another, without requiring action by the user. To help ensure that upgrades to v5.0 go smoothly, a test environment can be built first and then the BlackBerry Enterprise Transporter can be used to move users into the production environment.

v5.0 Offering peace of mind in mission critical environments v5.0 introduces a built-in high availability architecture which enables fast recovery from unplanned downtime of components. If the need arises, the new high availability architecture is designed to automatically use the standby components and has the flexibility of being deployed on physical and virtual servers (specifically VMware ). The high availability architecture is designed to give you confidence in your wireless infrastructure, and is easy to deploy, while flexible enough to be tailored to your unique environment. Through the BlackBerry Administration Service, enhanced monitoring capabilities assess the health of your BlackBerry Enterprise Solution helping to keep operations optimized. The Threshold Assistance Tool provides system and user level alerting to help administrators choose good values for baseline thresholds to help enable proactive monitoring. By offering more visibility into your wireless platform, IT administrators are alerted before there is a problem. Invest in the future Invest in v5.0 today and leverage this investment long into the future. Using forward-thinking design principles, v5.0 was made to grow with your business. As your company grows, you can add more BlackBerry Enterprise Server instances to support tens of thousands of BlackBerry smartphone users. The ability to integrate with BlackBerry products, as well as with products developed by a multitude of partners, helps you expand your wireless infrastructure in a cost-effective way. Because every company is different, this product offers tools and services that administrators can tailor to their organizations. Take advantage of the growing community of developers that have created many services and applications for BlackBerry smartphones. Be more productive while on the go BlackBerry smartphones now offer more access to desktop features, helping bridge the gap between employees and the business tools they rely on while out of the office. They can: flag important messages in Microsoft Outlook * forward calendar appointments* open attachments from calendar appointments* easily access network drives using the remote file explorer, and view or attach files directly from the BlackBerry smartphone* add, rename, delete, or move email folders as necessary* synchronize contacts* listen to WMA files - Microsoft Office Communicator users can now send, receive, and listen to these files on their BlackBerry smartphones* *Requires BlackBerry Device Software v5.0
