Rohmann Update Issue 3, March 2004 Elotest PL 300 19 Systems The success of the B300 instruments has led to the development of production line units - in the form of the Elotest PL300 range. The proven electronics and innovative concept of the B300 is carried over to these new instruments, and are well suited to applications like the EloScan robotic engine component testing system, aircraft wheel test systems or laboratories. The PL300 units are constructed in a slim 19 rack housing, with all interconnections and interfaces available on the rear panel. The instrument parameters can be controlled from an external keyboard (with monitor), or it can operate autonomously. Eddy Current Instruments and Systems Rohmann Contents The main features of the PL300 range are: 10 Hz - 10 MHz frequency range. Driver amplifier: up to 4 channel 20Vpp, max 400mA. 1, 2, 3 or 4 channel versions. With mixing on 2 channels and above. Rear connection for up to 4 probes (D-Sub 15). 1 x USB connector. 1 x RJ45 100/100 Mbit Ethernet connector. 1 x VGA connector. 1 x Parallel connector. 2 x Multi Input/Output (HDSub44) connector. Visualisation and parameterisation software is included together with an RJ45 crosslink cable, allowing the customer to set up and operate the unit quickly. Elotest PL300B In the production line environment where a keyboard and display is required, the Elotest PL300B series of instruments are available. The housing is constructed in a rigid and rugged aluminium housing, and utilises the keyboard and TFT display from the well proven Elotest B300. All parameter adjustments are made via the clear and ergonomic keyboard. Warning LEDs are clearly visible to the user to alert of probe trouble, preamplifier overload and gate threshold indications. The visual interface is a bright and clear colour TFT VGA LCD display. The different colours allocated to each channel signal provides easy interpretation of signals. In keeping with other Elotest instruments, the adjustment of parameters are made with a rotary knob. All interface connections are made via the panel situated on the underside of the unit. Sensors have individual inputs with no requirement for adaptors. Applications for this innovative instrument include production inspections for automotive components, in-line tube testing, probe array multiplex inspections, C-Scan, Conductivity measurement/layer thickness measurement, material sorting and many other applications. Adapt the PL300 to meet your needs No two applications are the same - fact. We have built our reputation on being able to meet the exacting requirements of our customers. The PL300 range has many features all designed to accommodate the varied industries needs. Here on the left you can see an automotive application. A simple probe is used to detect cracks in the safety critical part. This can be a production line inspection in which case the 19 rack system can integrated into a cabinet which may include other control electronics to form part of a turnkey system. On the right a PL300 system has been integrated with an industrial PC. Both units are installed in an air - conditioned cabinet. Ideal for environments which are dirty or humid. So you can see the system is very adaptable to very many different applications in many industries from laboratories to high speed in-car rail inspections. To extract the ultimate performance from PL300 Instruments, Rohmann manufactures an extensive range of standard coils and sensors. If we find that these don t solve your inspection problem, we can manufacture special versions. 3
Manual Rail Inspection EC HeadChecker The EC HeadChecker is a manual eddy current inspection system designed to detect defects on or just below the surface of a rail. In addition to defects along the guiding surface of rails (head checks) other inhomogenities such as corrugation, chatter marks, skid marks and weld seams can be found. The measuring device consists of a two-channel Elotest B300 eddy current test instrument with an evaluation software that detects defects on or just below the surface of rails during a manual inspection using a trolley car. The measuring data of both channels are processed right in the instrument and are displayed on the screen. In the test instrument the measuring data are forwarded to a control unit where additional data such as GPS and path information are also collected. A special evaluation software provides a preliminary selection of incidents where the rail surface is damaged. All measuring data are subject to an immediate evaluation. In addition, a more detailed evaluation can be carried out offline by using the laptop that is part of the delivery scope. 4
Automated Rail Inspection EC TrackScan The TrackScan, like the HeadChecker, is designed for the detection and evaluation of defects on or just below the surface of rails. In addition to defects along the guiding surface of rails (Headchecks) other inhomogenities such as corrugation, chatter marks, skid marks and weld seams can be found. Thus it is possible to track the development of damage along the surface, optimally plan the repair and monitor its success. The measuring system consists of a multi-channel eddy current test instrument and a computer evaluation and analysis network for the inspection of defects on or just below the surface of rails. It is designed to be integrated in a rail-inspection train. Four test channels are available per rail i. e. there is a total of eight channels for both rails. The measuring data of all channels are guided through an A/D converter and are forwarded to a measuring computer for each rail. A LAN in the inspection train forwards the measuring data to a control computer where they are merged with GPS and UT-data. Here a special evaluation software provides a preliminary selection of incidents where the rail surface is damaged. All measuring data are subject to an immediate evaluation. The evaluation software can be modified to meet the requirements of the end user. 5
