LanSchool Training Manual How to Change your Channel Number Click on Administer and select Preferences. Click on the Network tab. At the bottom in the Teacher Channel section, enter your Channel Number. Click on OK. How to Set Up a Class List Click on Administer and hover over One to One, selecting Manage Class List. From the Manage Class Lists window: Click on Browse for Student(s). Checkmark the students in your class. Click on Add Click on Save. Enter the name of your class (Period 1, 2 ). Select the save location. Click on Save. Click on Close. How to Load a Class List Click on Administer and hover over One to One, selecting Load Class List. Find and select the class list. Click on Open. Note: Once you have loaded a class list, the One to One menu will display a history of class lists at the bottom of the menu. How to Dismiss the Current Class Click on Administer and hover over One to One, selecting Dismiss Current Class.

How to Edit a Class List Click on Administer and hover over One to One, selecting Manage Class Lists. From the Manage Class List window: Click on Open. Browse to the saved class list and click on Open. To add a student click on Browse for Student(s). To remove a student click on the student, then click on Remove Student(s). Click on Save. Click on Close.

LanSchool Teacher Console Features Show You can show the teacher s screen to all students on the same teacher channel. You have the option to show your screen as a full screen or windowed screen. In full screen mode, the teacher s screen will take over the entire student s screen and lockout the student s mouse and keyboard. In windowed mode, the students can resize the teacher screen and work by following along with the teacher. To show your screen click on the drop down arrow next to Show and select either Full Screen or Windowed. To stop showing your screen click on the LanSchool Icon in the Taskbar. Click on the drop down arrow next to Show and select Stop Showing Teacher s Screen. Show Student Sometimes you might want to send a student s screen to all other students. While the button is enabled, the student will have control of their machine and their screen will be shown to the rest of the students in the class. To show a student machine click on Show Student. To stop showing a student machine click again on Show Student. Vote Ask Yes/No or multiple choice questions from your console and view in real-time how many students have responded and how they responded. Questions may be created on the fly or loaded from a previously saved file. To use the voting feature select the students and click on Vote. Note: Selected students appear with a red box around their screenshot. When there is no student selected all students are implicitly selected. To create a question on the fly, enter the question in the Question sections. Select the question type. Click on Send. You can also save a question for later use by repeating the above steps and clicking on Save. To load a saved question click on Load.

Testing Teachers can create up to 100 question tests that include graphics. The test questions can be randomized, sent to one or all students, and tracked in real-time. Teachers can also time the test and export the results to an Excel file. To use the testing feature select the students and click on the drop down arrow next to Testing. To create a test, click on Create Test. o From the LanSchool Test Builder window click on New Test. o Enter a name for the test and click on OK. o From the Question Properties window enter the details for your first question. Be sure to mark the correct answer. o Click on Save. o To add/edit/delete questions click on the appropriate button from the menu. o Save the test and close the LanSchool Test Builder window. To have a student take a test, click on Ask Students to Take Test. o Click on Load to browse to the created test. o Checkmark the boxes for a timed test and random order if you want. o Click on Start to send the test. Run This option allows you to run an application or a web site on student computers. This can be quite useful for younger students who have trouble navigating to a specific web address or starting a specific application. To use this feature click on the Run button. Type in or browse to the full path name or web site address. Click on OK. Control You can take control of a selected student computer. This means, you can remotely use the mouse and keyboard on the selected student s computer. You can also view a selected student computer. To use this feature select a student computer and click on the drop down arrow next to Control. Select Remote Control or View Only. To end the remote control or viewing click again on the Control button.

View All You can view up to 3000 student thumbnails at the same time. Every student s screen will appear as a thumbnail in the LanSchool Console. There are 4 sizes of thumbnails that can be sized automatically to the best fit. To change the layout of your student thumbnails click on the drop down arrow next to View All. Click on the layout of your choosing. Selecting Classroom Layout will allow you to arrange the thumbnails in the shape of your classroom. Layouts can also be saved and loaded enabling you to have a different one for each class. Snapshot If any student is misusing the computer, you can easily save that student s screen to an image file by clicking on the Snapshot button. The date, time, and student login name are displayed in the saved file. To make a snapshot of a student s screen click on the Snapshot button. Enter a name and location for the snapshot and click on Save. Message Students can click on the LanSchool icon and type a question to the teacher. A question mark appears on their machine or thumbnail. To send a message select the student and click on the drop down arrow next to Message. Choose Send Message to display the message in the lower right corner of the student screen. Choose Chat to open a Chat with Student window on the student screen. The student will be disabled from closing this chat window. Blank Screen Enables you to blank-out all student screens on your channel and disable all student keyboards and mice. The message can be customized. To blank-out a student screen click on the Blank Screen button. To customize a message click on the drop down arrow next to Blank Screen and select Customize Blank Screen Message. This option is also available from the Teacher tab in Preferences under the Administer menu.

Limit Web You can temporarily disable all or selected student access to Internet Explorer. You may choose between blocking all web activity, allowing certain websites or blocking certain websites. To configure the Web Limiting options click on the drop down arrow next to Limit Web and select Configure Web Limiting. Select the option for Block All, Allowed Web Sites, or Blocked Web Sites. You have the option of saving blocked and allowed lists and loading them in the future. To activate web limiting click on the Limit Web button. To stop web limiting click again on the Limit Web button. Limit Apps You can temporarily disable all or selected student access to specific software applications. Students cannot get around this feature by renaming the application. To configure the Application Limiting options click on the drop down arrow next to Limit Apps and select Configure Application Limiting. Select the option for Allowed Applications or Blocked Applications. Application names must be entered with the full path name. You have the option of saving allowed and blocked lists and loading them in the future. To activate application limiting click on the Limit Apps button. To stop application limiting click again on the Limit Apps button. Limit Print You can temporarily disable all student printers. Once disabled, the students will not be able to print until you again enable printing. To activate limited printing click on the Limit Print button. To stop limited printing click again on the Limit Print button. Limit USB From the console you can limit the student s ability to access a USB thumb drive. USB keyboards and mice will NOT be affected. To activate limited USB use click on the Limit USB button. To stop limited USB use click again on the Limit USB button. Mute Teachers can mute the sound on student computers. To mute the sound on a student computer click on the Mute button. To un-mute the student computer click again on the Mute button.

Files You can send files to student computers and then retrieve them back. Sent files are stored on the student computer in a LanSchool folder on the C drive (location: c:\lanschool Files). Collected files are stored on your desktop in a folder named after the student. To send a file click on the drop down arrow next to Files and select Send Files. Browse to the file by clicking on the Browse button. Click on Send Now. Click on Finished. To collect a file click on the drop down arrow next to Files and select Collect Files. In the second field enter the file name you wish to collect using the example as a guide. In the third field enter the destination folder for the collected files. The default folder is your desktop. Click on Collect Files. Click on Finished. Note All of the above features are also available by right-clicking on a student screen. Fun Tip Under the Monitor menu is an option to Choose Random Student. This feature will randomly select a student from your class list and display a message on their screen saying they were selected. This is a fun way to engage students and encourage participation in the classroom.
