DVD CAM Software Support Center Troubleshooting No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC DZ-MV100A/E Windows 2000 Download the USB driver updater, and then update the USB driver with the updater. The USB driver updater (UP0307en.exe) can be downloaded at http://dvdcam-pc.support.hitachi.ca/en/download/dl.asp. Check that the DVD CAM power is on. Shut down Windows to turn off the PC, and then turn on the PC again. Check that the PC connection cable is completely plugged into the DVD CAM and PC. Reinstall the USB driver. See "Reinstalling the USB Driver (2000)" below for how to reinstall the USB driver. Shut down Windows, disconnect the PC connection cable with the DVD CAM, and then turn on the PC. After Windows starts, connect the PC connection cable with the DVD CAM. Uninstall the USB driver, and then reinstall it. See "Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver (2000)" on page 3 for how to uninstall and reinstall the USB driver. Reinstalling the USB Driver (2000) Make sure that you have prepared the USB folder in the UP0307 folder extracted from the downloaded USB driver updater archived file UP0307en.exe in your local hard drive. The USB driver updater (UP0307en.exe) can be downloaded at http://dvdcam-pc.support.hitachi.ca/en/download/dl.asp. Connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. From the Start button, click Settings > Control Panel. Double-click System. Click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button. If any of the following devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices appears with a yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) mark appears under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices, go to Step 9. If Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface appears without a yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) mark, go to Step 7. 1

USB Device Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface Unknown Device To show devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices, click the + button next to it. Check if any of the following devices appears under SCSI and RAID Controllers or Other Devices. If not appears, perform procedures in "No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (2000)" on page 1. USB to SCSI Device Hitachi DVD CAMERA SCSI Interface Unknown Device If the a yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) mark appears next to the device that you confirmed in Step 7, go to Step 9. If it does not appear, perform procedures in "No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (2000)" on page 1. Right-click the device name that appears with a yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) mark, and then click Properties. Click the Driver tab, and then click the Update Driver button. Upgrade Device Driver Wizard appears. Click Next. Click Search for a suitable driver or my device (recommended), and then click Next. Clear the Floppy disk drives, CD-ROM drives, and Microsoft Windows Update check boxes. Click the Specify a location check box. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, click the dzmv100u file in the USB folder in the UP0307 folder from the downloaded USB driver updater archived file UP0307en.exe in your local hard drive, and then click the Open button. Click OK. Under a message Device Files Search Result, make sure that the following location appears. If it appears, go to Step 13. If not appears, click Back, and then re-do Steps 13 to 16 Next to a CD-ROM drive icon: drive-letter:\dzmv100u.inf Or, drive-letter:\dzmv100s.inf Upgrade Device Driver Wizard appears again. Click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next. If Hardware Update Wizard does not appear, go to Step 28. Click Search for a suitable driver or my device (recommended), and then click Next. Clear the Floppy disk drives, CD-ROM drives, and Microsoft Windows Update check boxes. Click the Specify a location check box In the Browse for Folder dialog box, click the DZMV100S file in the USB folder in the UP0307 2

folder from the downloaded USB driver updater archived file UP0307en.exe in your local hard drive, and then click the Open button. Under a message Device Files Search Result, make sure that the following location appears. If it appears, go to Step 22. If not appears, click Back, and then re-do Steps 22 to 24 Next to a CD-ROM drive icon: drive-letter:\dzmv100s.inf Disconnect the DVD CAM with the PC, and restart Windows. After Windows starts, connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. Check if the drive icon appears in My Computer. Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver (2000) Connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. From the Start button, click Settings > Control Panel. Double-click System. Click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button. If any of the following devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices appears under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices, perform procedures in "No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (2000)" on page 1. USB Device Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface Unknown Device To show devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices, click the + button next to it. Right-click the device that you confirmed in Step 5, click Uninstall. Close the Device Manager. If Windows prompts you to restart Windows, click No. Double-click My Computer from Desktop. In My Computer, click Tools > Folder Options menu, and then click the View tab. Under the Hidden files and folders in the Advanced settings list, select Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK. Open the WINNT\System32\drivers folder. The WINNT folder is normally located under the Local Disk (C:). If the contents of the WINNT folder do not appear, click Show Files. Delete the following files if they exist under the WINNT\System32\drivers folder. dz2kscsi dz2kusb 3

Disconnect the DVD CAM with the PC, and restart Windows. See "Installing the USB Driver (2000)" below and reinstall the USB driver. Installing the USB Driver (2000) When Windows starts, connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. After Windows starts, connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. Check if the drive icon appears in My Computer. 4

"Checking If the Drive Icon of the DVD CAM Appears" below. Cannot Capture Movies or Still Pictures from DVD CAM (2000) Check if the drive icon of DVD CAM appears with My Computer. See "Checking If the Drive Icon of the DVD CAM Appears (2000)" below for the procedures. Check if the DVD CAM is connected with the PC using Device Manager. See "Checking if the DVD CAM Is Connected with the PC Using Device Manager (2000)" below for the procedures. Check the device setting with the program. See "Device Setting with DVD MovieFactory for DVD CAM" on page 6 Check if you are using the correct Source Disc and application that supports the media by referring to the following table. Source Disc Type Software to Use DVD-RAM Movie DVD MovieFactory SE for DVD CAM DVD-RAM Still Picture Any programs that support still pictures files in the JPEG format Check if the UDF driver in the CD-ROM supplied with the DZ-MV100A/E has been installed. Before installing the UDF driver in the CD-ROM supplied with the DZ-MV100A/E, check to see if another UDF driver or packet-writing software has already been installed your PC. If you have installed any other CD/DVD writing software in your PC, another UDF driver or packet-writing software bundled with or comprising the CD/DVD writing software may be installed. If another UDF or packet-writing software has been installed, uninstall it and then install the UDF driver) in the CD-ROM supplied with the DZ-MV100A/E. Checking If the Drive Icon of the DVD CAM Appears (2000) Double-click My Computer from Desktop. When the DVD CAM is turn on to the VIDEO or PHOTO position, check if the drive icon is shown below. If the drive icon does not appear, see "No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (2000)" on page 1. The driver letter of the DVD CAM varies, depending on the PC hardware configurations. Checking if the DVD CAM Is Connected with the PC Using Device Manager (2000) From the Start button, click Control Panel. Double-click System. 5

Click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button. Under DVD/CD-ROM drive, check if HITACHI DZMV1 appears. Right-click HITACHI DZMV1, and then click Properties. Under Device status box on the General tab, check if This device is working properly.. Under SCSI and RAID Controllers, check if Hitachi DVD CAMERA SCSI Interface appears. If it does not appear, reinstall the UDB driver by referring to "Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver (2000)" on page 3. Right-click Hitachi DVD CAMERA SCSI Interface, and then click Properties. Under Device status box on the General tab, check if This device is working properly.. If it does not appear, reinstall the UDB driver by referring to <"Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver (2000)" on page 3. Under Universal Serial Bus controllers, check if Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface appears. If it does not appear, reinstall the UDB driver by referring to <"Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver (2000)" on page 3. Right-click Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface, and then click Properties. Under Device status box on the General tab, check if This device is working properly.. If it does not appear, reinstall the UDB driver by referring to <"Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver (2000)" on page 3. Device Setting with DVD MovieFactory for DVD CAM Before capturing videos, check the capture settings. Start DVD MovieFactory SE, and then click Capture video. Click the Capture plug-in icon. Make sure if Ulead DVD-VR Plug-in has been selected in the Current capture plug-in box. If not selected, select Ulead DVD-VR Plug-in, and then click OK. Click the Capture settings icon, and then click Video Properties. When capturing video from a DVD-RAM disc, make sure if the DVD-RTAV folder in the DVD CAM drive has been selected. If not selected, select the DVD-RTAV folder in the DVD-RAM disc. Click the Capture video icon to start capturing video. Capturing video may take a long time. To shorten the capture time, create a play list of clips only you want to capture with the DVD CAM, and then select the play list to capture in the Select Playlist dialog box. Capturing Movies How to export programs recorded on a DVD-RAM disc with the DVD CAM into your PC Start DVD MovieFactory SE, and then click Capture video. 6

Click the Capture plug-in icon. In the Current capture plug-in box, select Ulead DVD-VR Plug-in, and then click OK. Click the Capture settings icon, and then click Video Properties. When capturing video from a DVD-RAM disc, select the DVD-RTAV folder in the DVD CAM drive. Click the Capture video icon to start capturing video. In the Select Playlist dialog box, select a play list that you want to capture or ALL, and then click Next. In the Select Scenes To Capture dialog box, select one or more thumbnails of scenes that you want to capture. To select two or more successive scenes, click one thumbnail, hold down the Shift key, and then click the hold down the Shift key, and click the end scene of them. To select two or more scenes each, hold down the Ctrl key, and then click any scenes. Capturing video may take a long time. To shorten the capture time, create a play list of clips only you want to capture with the DVD CAM, and then select the play list to capture in the Select Playlist dialog box. Capturing Still Pictures Using any programs that support still picture files in the JPEG format, you can capture still pictures stored in the 100HPNX1 folder under the DCIM folder on a DVD-RAM disc. Note Do not delete any files or folders or change those names on a DVD-RAM disc when capturing. You can copy still pictures to the PC using My Computer. 7
