CaseWare settings Options For the following options, open the Caseware file. In the CaseWare menu, go to Tools > Options General:
1. Startup with: Wizard This opens CaseWare with the Startup wizard that allows you to choose from a list of recently opened files, other file, or create a new file. 2. Auto Compress recommend set at NO or PROMPT. This feature is the default selection to compress each time you close a file. All Resource Centers (KLIB, FRMLIB, etc) must be uncompressed at all times. 3. Table list field styles: Entry codes Set table list field style to Entry Codes to maximize the number of trial balance columns you can display at one time. This abbreviates the account properties. For example the type column is Balance Sheet when set to Descriptions, BS when set to abbreviations, and B when set to entry codes. 4. Number of recently used files : recommend select 10. You will also increase the number of clients listed in the File / Open / Recent dialog box. 5. Colour Scheme: Select a color scheme to make it easier to see rows within a table (i.e. trial balance). Think of this as wallpaper for your CaseWare file. 6. Select Use old keyboard shortcuts to activate shortcut keys which were available in prior versions of CaseWare. Default Paths: Set default client path to drive and folder where your data is located. Set template path to drive and location where your templates are located. It s a good idea to set a different path for the templates. For example: Client file path: G:\Client Data\ Template path: G:\Client Data\Templates\ Once default paths are set, when using File/Copy Components you will already be at the source file location. Formatted: Bullets and Numbering
Roles: Select the number of sign-off boxes, title above the boxes and colour of checkmarks on document manager. Jazzit templates support up to eight signature boxes. Mapping (show account balance in Assign Mapping window): Check the Show account balances to see the account balances when you are mapping in the assign mapping window.
Documents: Uncheck the boxes to skip the zero balances in CaseWare automatic documents (Trail balance etc.). Working Trial Balance [Ctrl+W] Fold Line Right mouse click on any dividing line between columns to set the fold line (a vertical dotted line). The fold line will keep columns to the left on the screen as you move over to the right side (similar to freeze panes in Excel). You can set this fold line in any document you see the dotted vertical line (e.g. programs and checklists, chart of map numbers etc). You can press F11 to fold and unfold your document quickly. Set the fold line on the trial balance Right mouse click on the line to set the fold line
Resize trial balance column widths Position your mouse on the right side of a column s dividing line and drag (keep your left mouse button down) your mouse left or right to adjust the width of the columns Column order in the Trial balance settings [CTRL+W] You can change the order the information is sorted in the trial balance by clicking on the column headings. By clicking on headings, you can sort the trial balance by Account No, Name, Map No, Type, L/S and GIFI in either ascending or descending order. Your workstation will maintain this sort key until you select a different one. Click on the Map No heading to sort the accounts using this information View / Reorder columns Reorder columns dialog box with trial balance open Use the View / Reorder columns option to move columns and hide columns in the trial balance. You may wish to reposition the GIFI column next to the mapping column and hide the budget column if you don t plan to ever use it.
Roll forward settings Jazzit financial statements, letters and working papers require the CaseView cells to roll forward: CaseView settings Colour Preferences Set Colours for Input Paragraphs, Input cells, and Skip Text as follows: 1. Open CaseView in form mode. 2. Go to View > Preferences. The Display Preferences window will appear. 3. In the Colour Preferences section, click to set your workstation colour preferences for skipped text, input paragraphs, and input cells (see table below). 4. When you have finished making your selections, click on the Save Defaults button. This will apply these colour settings to any CaseView documents you view from this workstation. We recommend the following: Input cells Input paragraphs Skip text light yellow or green light blue Navy blue, or any colour other than light yellow, green, or light blue Note: It can be difficult to see your cursor within input paragraphs if it is set to the default color (gray).
Auto Save To enable auto save in CaseView: 1. From the CaseView menu, select Tools - Options - Auto Save tab. 2. Click to check the Enable Autosave checkbox. Autosave makes a temporary backup of your CaseView document (e.g. ClientFS.cv$), which is automatically deleted when you exit the document normally. If you crash in CaseView, you will be prompted to either restore from the Autosave file (i.e. the cv$ file) or return to the original CaseView document the next time you open it from CaseWare. It is a good idea to have this option enabled with a reasonable time interval. The time interval will depend on the speed of your workstation and your network. Increase the interval if saving your documents is slow on your system. Units of Measurement (Inches) Measurement units must be set to Inches for the Jazzit templates to format properly. (Setting this option to centimetres moves the right margin in slightly and will cause cells on the right edge to wrap to a new line below.) Note: You can access the design mode in any Jazzit template except for the financial statement template. Open any CaseView document (other than the financial statements) from your CaseWare Document Manager. 1. Go to View > Design mode. 2. Go to Tools > Options 3. Select the Measurements tab. 4. Click to select Inches from the pop-up list. Printer dialogue box To have your printer s dialogue box appear every time you print uncheck the interface box 1. Go to Tools > Options 2. Choose the Interface tab 3. Uncheck the Bypass Print Dialogs from Toolbar box This setting is useful if you wish to print only one page of the financials.
