Operating manual 1. Product designation GSM/GPRS wireless router of МТ01 type (hereinafter referred to as МТ01) ensured data transfer within a GSM/GPRS/CDMA network over TCP/IP protocol stack. МТ01 is designed for operation in telemetry systems, wireless data transfer and data collection from sensors. МТ01 operates in Client mode. In this mode a МТ01 is connected to the data collecting server and transmits data to it from external devices connected to this server. For operation in this mode MT01 may use any SIM-card from a local provider. In Client mode МТ01 is connected to GSM/GPRS/3G network automatically, and afterwards it establishes a connection with a preset server. МТ01 ensures transparent interaction between external devices connected to МТ01 over RS232/485 interface and monitors the connection state, and in case of its loss it restore such a connection in an independent manner. 10. Device operation description When power is applied to МТ01, red LED 1 starts glowing, which fact indicates that MT01 is powered on. Afterwards, yellow LED 4 starts glowing. This means that a communication module is switched on. A communication module establishes communication using a certain algorithm described in Section titled «Working with SIM-cards». Green LED 3 displays the communication module operation results. After a successful loading of all МТ01 modules, green LED 2 starts glowing. If this green LED fails to glow, contact the technical support service. Green LED also takes part in informing user of the firmware upgrading process, mechanism of which is described in Section 12. After a communication has been established, МТ01 starts operating in accordance with the settings of a configuration file. МТ01 scans the lower-level devices through RS 232/485 and RS485 ports, and sends information obtained from these devices to a server, from where it is taken by the upper-level software. МТ01 also submits inquiries to the lower-level devices that are received from the upper-level software through a server. 11. МТ01 basic setting-up steps 11.1. МТ01 power connection Power is applied to МТ01 through the fourth pin connector. МТ01 is powered from 24 V DC. Contacts 1, 2 and 3, 4 are soldered on a board. Voltage of +24 V shall be applied to pin 1 or 2 (they are soldered into a single potential on a board) so that to make a connection. Apply 0 V to pin 3 or 4 (they are soldered into a single potential on a board). Primary power source +24 V 0 V PLUG MT01 1 2 3 4 +24 +24 GND GND 11.2. Connection of devices to МТ01 Fig. 11.1 Example of power connection Devices shall be connected to МТ01 through a 8-pin connector via RS232 or RS485 interface. A capability of simultaneous using all three interfaces («RS232+ RS485+ RS485») has been implemented. In the process of networking using RS 485 communications interface, up to 32 devices may be connected to the twisted-pair line; and up to 256 devices if an amplifier is used. 16 А Т. 6 8 7 4 2 2. 0 5 2 O M

They provide the concordance of the «opened» end of cable with other line, removing the reflection of signal. If there are only two transceivers in the line, no resistors are required. If there are more than two transceivers, they shall be installed at clients spaced maximally apart within the line. A resistor shall be installed near the farthest device. Resistor rated voltage corresponds to the cable wave impedance, and is usually 100 120 Ohm for twisted-pair-based cables. For example, impedance of a wide-spread UTP 5 cable used for constructing Ethernet networks is 100 Ohm, and of special cables for RS 485 of Belden 9841...9844 type is 120 Ohm. Cables of other type may require other rated values. 11.3. Setting-up through a server (using a configuration file) МТ01 is configured with the help of a server. Configuration is performed in the following manner: МТ01 enters the Internet and «finds» a configuration file on the server. Afterwards it downloads this file into its internal memory and processes information from the file. Then it reboots and sends a mark to the server indicating that a configuration has been applied successfully. Besides, a configuration file may be edited with the help of МТ01 web-interface. Operating manual 12. МТ01 firmware updating (upgrading) Firmware is available as two files to be recorded into USB Flash. Insert USB Flash into a relevant socket of МТ01. After a successful detection of the firmware upgrade files, green LED 2 will blink once with a time period of 1 second. Mechanism of the firmware upgrade provided in the router shall operate. Firmware upgrade files are copied from USB Flash to the internal SD card. Upon successful completion of copying, green LED 2 will blink twice with a time period of 1 second indicating that firmware upgrading process has started. Thereafter USB Flash may be removed. Firmware upgrading process lasts from 5 to 7 minutes. Upon completion of firmware upgrading, MT01 shall establish connection. In the process of firmware upgrading the router operation shall be monitored since in case of an error green LED 2 will blink twice with a time interval of 3 seconds, whereupon there will be several short blinks, the number of which shall be reported to the technical support service. Remote override of MT01 separate files and that through USB Flash have been implemented as well. 13. Working with SIM-cards After a communication module has been downloaded, SIM 1 is polled first and followed by SIM 2. Enabled modem accesses SIM 1 and tries to establish a connection, which fact is evidenced by yellow LED 3 glowing. Upon successful completion of connection, yellow LED 3 starts blinking with a frequency of 800 ms ON/OFF. This is a signal of successful connection. In case of no communication, control module disables the communication module, and both light-emitting diodes (3 and 4) stops glowing for 15 seconds. Control module switches over the communication module from SIM 1 to SIM 2 within 2 minutes. Then yellow LED 4 starts glowing indicating that the communication module is enabled but from an active SIM 2 this time. Cycle of establishing connection with SIM 2 is repeated. In case of a connection loss, МТ01 is switched over to a backup SIM-card. SIM card being active at the moment is displayed in the MT01 web-interface. 14. МТ01 interaction with a server МТ01 has a local configuration file containing data required for ensuring MT01 operation within a telemetry system. A local configuration file contains data that are also required for authorization of MT01 on a server. Successful authorization makes it possible to send a configuration file to the server so that to synchronize the data. A priority configuration file is stored on the server. A local configuration file is updated if this is required by a configuration file stored on the server. Overall process of МТ01 interaction with a server in the form of a data transfer is as follows: 1. Lower-level devices are polled, following which they send information to MТ01 where such information is recorded into the file. Then this information is transmitted from the file to the server, from where it enters the upper-level devices. 2. The fact that input data has been processed shall be confirmed. This mechanism works as follows: if the server acknowledges that the data acquisition and transmission cycle has been checked, the information transmitted is deleted from the file. If not, submission is repeated until the data is transmitted successfully. 3. Upper-level devices send data to the server. Server sends this data to МТ01, and МТ01 transmits the same to the lower-level devices. 4. МТ01 collects the communication statistics throughout the course of its operation. It calculates the average data exchange rate within a single polling cycle. T R I O L C O R P O R A T I O N w w w. t r i o l c o r p. c o m 23
