Answer These are the basic steps that explain how to test the installation of the Microsoft SQL Server for ACT! by Sage. They include: To check the SQL Server has installed To check the log files for failed install items To remove installed components To check the configuration of the SQL Server To check the SQL Service is running To install and run SQL Installer.exe Note: Quick steps provide the minimum amount of information you need. Start > Settings > Control Panel > double-click Add / Remove Programs > check the list of programs for Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Windows 7 and Windows Vista - Click Start > Control Panel > double-click Programs and Features > check the list of programs for Microsoft SQL Server 2005. 2. Right-click the Add / Remove Programs or Programs and Features window name Close > File > Close. Windows 7 and Windows Vista - Hold down the left Alt key > File > Close > File > Close. 3. If Microsoft SQL Server isn't in the list of programs > install and run SQL Installer.exe. Article number 14684 1
To check the log files for failed install items 1. Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log > double-click Summary.txt > check the Install message for each section. Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs. Windows 7 and Windows Vista - Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features. 3. Locate and select the following files > Remove > Yes > Yes. If listed > select Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Remove > Uninstaller Error window > Yes. To check the SQL Server configuration 1. Start > Run > Open box > type services.msc > OK. Windows 7 and Windows Vista - Start > Start Search box > type services.msc > Enter. 2. Locate SQL Server (ACT7) > if it appears refer to the following section > if it doesn't appear > File > Exit. 3. Start > Run > Open box > type actdiag > OK. Windows 7 and Windows Vista - Start > Start Search box > type actdiag > Enter. 4. ACT! Diagnostics window > Server > Server Security > Reset SQL Password > Yes > OK > open ACT!: If ACT! opens, you don't need to proceed any further. Article number 14684 2
If ACT! doesn't open > ACT! Diagnostic window > File > Exit > double-click My Computer > browse to the following location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG 5. To check the SQL Service is running 1. Start > Run > type actdiag > OK. Windows 7 and Windows Vista - Start > Start Search box > type actdiag > Enter. If the ACT! Diagnostic window opens and no messages appear, the SQL Service is running. 2. Restart the PC > if you can't open ACT!, manually restart the SQL Service. 3. To do this: Start > Run > Open box > type services.msc > OK. Windows 7 and Windows Vista - Start > Start Search box > services.msc > Enter. 4. Services window > right-hand pane > locate and select SQL Server (ACT7) > right-click > Start > File > Exit. If SQL Server (ACT7) isn't listed - Please refer to the following section, To install and run SQL Installer.exe. CD > Start > Computer > double-click the CD drive. 2. Dependencies folder > double-click SQL Install.exe > read the disclaimer > OK > OK. Article number 14684 3
3. Browser window > enter the path to the Dependencies folder in the ACT! program folder > Continue. Tip: If required, to browse to the folder, click the finder button. 4. When the SQL Server setup and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup have finished, and all the components required for the SQL Server Setup have been installed, click Install. Note: If Failed appears in the Status column of any of the Action items the installation stops. Information about the failure appears in the Message column. In the System Configuration Check window, to continue, click Next then in the SQL Express install is complete window, for future reference, note the location of the installation log files then click OK.
