Office Button opens these options: Office 2007 documents have a four-letter extension:.docx.pptx.xlsx New Template or blank document Save As: allows Prepare document for distribution E-mail or Internet fax NOTE: Until the full district transition to Office 2007 is complete for the 2009-10 school year, save new documents in the Word 97-2003 format so others with older versions of Word can open the new document. 2 P a g e Created by G. Quick Access Toolbar Click on the down arrow to add options Find even more options here You can put the commands that you use the most on the Quick Access Toolbar. The Ribbon and Tabs All commands are organized onto ribbons. Each tab represents a collection of features designed to perform a specific set of tasks. When you click on a tab the features unique to that tab appear. Home: (Formatting and editing your text) Down arrows reveal drop down menus or dialog boxes. These commands are used to adjust the settings that are NOT available on the ribbon. Commands are further organized into groups: Clipboard: cut, copy and paste functions Font: style, size, color, and case; remove formatting for selected text Paragraph: alignment, bullets, numbering, increase and decrease indents, paragraph spacing, borders, color background for selected text Styles: create or modify styles (you can change normal to the spacing you want) Editing: find and replace Office 2007 previews live formatting. 4 P a g e Created by G. Insert: (Pages, Tables, pictures and shapes, Links, Header and Footer, Text, and Symbols) Note: When you insert objects, another tab will appear above the ribbon to work with that particular object table tools, drawing tools, picture tools, etc. It always appears in color. When you click on the Picture Tools another tab called a contextual tab will appear giving you options to work with the picture or object you have inserted. Types of Contextual Tabs: There are three types of contextual tabs format, design, and layout. One or more of these tabs will appear when an object is selected or inserted into a document. Format appears when you insert pictures, text boxes, shapes, charts, WordArt, SmartArt graphics, and Clipart. You can change the object style, modify its color, or change its position. Design appears when you insert or select tables, charts, equations, SmartArt graphics, and headers or footers. Layout appears when you insert or select tables and charts. Page Layout: (Themes, Page setup, Background, Paragraph options, arranging items on page such as columns) Arrange: Position text and graphics in a document. It enables you to wrap text around images, and group objects so they can be treated as one References: (Table of Contents, Footnotes, Citations and Bibliography, Captions, Index, Table of Authorities) Mailing: (Mail merge, labels, envelopes, and inserting fields) The mail merge wizard walks you through the merge and is fairly easy to follow. 7 P a g e Created by G. Review: (Proofing tools including spell check and thesaurus, comments box, tracking changes, comparing documents, and finally protecting the document) View: (Document views, show/hide ruler, gridlines, zoom controls, arranging the window including viewing documents side by side, and recording macros or viewing those already created) Viewing controls are located in the bottom right corner of the window. Add-Ins: (Educator and Students Tools including Learning Essentials; Microsoft Math Equation editor) Mini Toolbar When you select text the Mini toolbar appears. It is a fast and easy way to format text. It will disappear when you move the mouse pointer away from the selected text. Other Office 2007 Applications All Office 2007 applications have a similar style interface. PowerPoint Unique ribbons to PowerPoint include Design, Animations and Slide Show. Office 2007 Resources: Get Started Tab: Several helps from Microsoft are available on the Get Started ribbon. The Interactive Guide displays a view of Office 2003. When you mouse over commands, a pop up window tells where to find the same command in Office 2007. Each of the other options connect to additional resources that provide more details about Office 2007. Atomic Learning: Click the icon in the Shortcuts folder on your computer screen. You can select from dozens of video clips showing how to use specific features of Office 2007. Help: Click the Help button in the top right corner of the window, then enter your search terms.
